Telnet users rejoice! If anyone is still using that. Anyway, here's the helpfile.

Syntax: alias <shortcut> <command>
Syntax: unalias <shortcut>
(example: alias 1 emote waves a meat cleaver in the air slowly.)

Making an ALIAS creates a typing "shortcut" for a longer phrase.
Type the shortcut, and it will expand to perform the full command.
Characters may store up to ten aliases, naming them anything except
game commands and socials. It is suggested to use the numbers 0 to 9.
By itself, the alias command lists which aliases you currently have,
in the order of their creation.

Use the TARGET command in conjunction with aliases to save making
a new alias for every new creature you meet. Keep in mind you will need
to UNTARGET to be able to put $$ into an alias.

Use the | command in your alias (remember, use || to enter it into an
alias without using it) to set aliases that perform multiple commands.

Examples:
alias 1 examine sack
alias 2 commune 'cure critical' $$ (a cure spell with a target)
alias 3 get barrel sack | drink barrel | put barrel sack

Once set, using these is as simple as 1, 2, 3.

Two new commands here, TARGET and the | thing.

TARGET is useful to put a target for your in-game aliases, just put $$ in the alias (or actually, anywhere) and your current target will be set to that.

The | command is good for stacking lines, like the zmud ; command. I didn't use ; because we use it for gtells. And don't worry, you can't send 3 hellstreams at once. I know you're all breathing a sigh of relief over that.


I have tested these thoroughly so I'm pretty sure everythings going to stay just like it is. But of course if it doesn't I'll withdraw things.

And no, I won't be coding triggers. But I do think aliases are an essential part of play and now you have no excuse for being confused by zmud and whatnot (besides being confined to a limit of 10 that is).

Request:

Can we have a request aliases command to "opt in" for more than 10 aliases? Well logical reason is - we have the numpad directional keys aliases by default, and that's already 6 aliases.

Why opt in? If every char is given 20 aliases, that'd double the memory required by default. Hence a command to opt in to create more in-game aliases for telnet users can be used so that only those players who NEED extra aliases get it.

Personally I don't think that's necessary. Hopefully anybody that's getting that far into the game to need 20+ aliases will realize that getting a mud client (GMud, ZMud, JMC, whatever) is probably easier than eating up the mud's bandwidth and having Dav code in a new opt_in system.

That's why the website has the free client downloads, after all.

The mud's playing and pking is gearred towards a thinking person's game. Isn't spoon feeding people aliases counter to that ideal?

Do you think mud clients should be illegal then? Since they provide this exact same thing.

I personally think that that would be a good idea. Playing the game isn't about how well a computer can play it for you. Using the client is kind of like cheat codes on a normal game. It takes away the challenge of the game.

Using only the stuff the actual game provides sounds good to me.

Cheat codes? That's funny. Sorry to tell you this but most the Imms (past and present) all use aliases rather extensively. This just levels the playing field - all an alias does is save typing.

I dont really see a point of having numpad diraliases, unless they're hotkeys:> please loonies, download some mudclient and learn it inside-out, then you will be able to script ye own stuffzor and let dav do important stuff, like watching pr0n!

(btw i had this sick dream tonite, where Vhrael bitched me on irc and Taere got immed and justice leadered, and then it turned out that Taere is Adebaldi and so on, sick dream, i should quit for a while:S)

Sometimes in some places, like work/school/library, you can't get a mudclient to work. Hence that's where telnet comes in handy... I talk from experience too anyway, and I also welcome the command-stacking alias change a lot, was one of em who requested the feature in anyway.

So for those birds who claim imms don't listen to requests, well i'll be here to shoot you down.

Its straight-forward enough, you specify the command(s), and the short-cut. Then forever after, you only type the shortcut for those commands. I'll give some more examples, going from easiest to hardest.

example 1

alias name: drnk
alias command(s): drink barrel
how to create it: alias drnk drink barrel
how to delete it: unalias drnk
how to use it: drnk

example 2:

alias name: mt
alias commands: murder $$
how to create it: (1) untarget (2) alias mt target $$
how to delete it: unalias mt
how to use it: (1) target whoever) (2) mt

example 3:

alias name: cp
alias commands: commune 'cure critical'
how to create it: alias cp commune 'cure critical'
how to delete it: unalias cp
how to use it: cp OR cp <character name>

example 4

alias name: cc
alias commands: hold restoration, quaf restoration, dual sai
how to create it: alias cc hold restoration || quaf restoration || dual sai
how to delete it: unalias cc
how to use it: cc
