Now, Zarion is a Noble. My noble I might add. He had just came to assisted, having been asked to help Korro rank, as well as complete this quest first. Nothing to it, I agreed to help, havent played Zarion in ages, so I stopped to pick up Sevokan and ran to help so I had a decent weapon. I had checked the character at the beginning of the month and picked up blessed pike and sanctified mace, and had found the vest I was wearing on the ground. So I go and help, and without my healing, and an extra person doign damage he would of had a much harder time doing it. When we were finished, I noticed that the monkey puzzle armor dropped. I picked it up and asked Verdell to Identify it. When she was done, I asked her to give it back to me. I then dropped the 2 damage rare vest I was wearing for the hp vest. as a noble, I had no interest in fighting, or damage, just gaining gold and helping knights really. So the extra health was more important to me. There was no intent behind it, I was simply seizing an oppurtunity. Hobble is real nasty, but I figured I would post this log, as squee suggested and get the immortals opinion on the rp of this. Also, Killing Nobles is supposed to warrant an anathema flag, and his killing Zarion did NOT, so I wonder about that, cause hes still a noble, but w/e. Post.

Title: Korro 46, Zarion 47, I wouldn't do that

User: Not shown.

We had just killed Gi'Astu for the quest and then he goes and does this. Don't fuck with a Keeper.

- 394hp 468m 334mv 3433tnl - no opponent no opponent - night active - Astronomically large, black feathered wings protrude from this young mans
back. His head is topped with the same incredibly dark black hair, and it
stands ruffled on his head, as if blown by wind. His eyes are an incredibly
bright green, in comparison to his hair. His body is rather small, standing
much shorter then most humans, when his feet are on the ground. His arms
are rather muscular, but not overly large. His legs dangle beneath him and
are too thin for the rest of his body. A grin is on his face and his teeth
are rather crooked and awkward in their placement, but they are not dirty.
The skin stretched over his being is of a strange hue, it is neither of a
darker color, nor of a brownish color, but it is far from white, it is
almost red. Not a single part of his body is still, mostly from the fact
that he bobs about almost childlike, but still his body moves in a peculiar
manor, as if a strong wind blows inside him.
He has unlocked many secrets of the world.
Korro has quite a few wounds.

I think you've got the idea behind keepers ass backwards.

and i see RP is thriving, between nobles hunting people across thera and keepers killing non-threats who help them on quests. looks like we're just accepting anybody these days.

Reply: Actually, I think you have the "idea" behind keepers ass backwards.

First off, it was made clear that I wasn't going to stand for him taking that rare. That specific kill was for the quest, ONLY. I told him to drop it and informed him I was not kidding. (Read up if you need verification)

Second, keepers can turn on anyone at any time. You could be questing with me one minute, then be a Danger the next and refuse to get rid of your rares. Guess what Erlwith, each cabal has duties. Shocking, I know. Keepers do not hold grudges and will be kind, but we aren't your friends. Don't forget it.

Third, this is a log with a snippet of conversation between myself and Zarion. There is no room for dialogue RP in this. I RP'ed the role of a keeper pretty well I'd say by staying firm on my beliefs and then acting on them.

The "Don't fuck with a Keeper." at the top I put in there because I just thought it was amusing. Deal.

Reply: if you want to argue justification behind your kill that's fine Korro, but don't bring your cabal into it. If Zarion was not a threat you were not acting as a Keeper in killing him, because it does not fall under Keeper ethos to attack non-caballed non-threats. There's the threat flag for a reason. I can understand being annoyed at the situation, but killing someone for picking up a rare that did not make them a threat and that they did not steal doesn't strike me as superb Keeper RP.

Reply: lol. I think in this situation, it's the same as asking the keeper to gain a rare equipment for you. Example asking a keeper "would you want to go winter? or would you assist me in killing the lich king for his items." The Keeper would definitely reject your request cos they dont believe in rares and they would not assist the others in gaining rares. So I think from his stand, he was right in taking out Zarion and sacrificing the rare because he made use of the keeper to gain a rare.

Reply: I think Zarion getting an item is a consequence from you wanting his help to do the quest. You know that Gi'astu obviously holds a rare, but just because you don't use rares doesn't mean other people can't. I understand your duty as a Keeper since I too had one, but the thing is, he wasn't danger, he was a good, and he had just helped you complete a quest that you can't do alone, so in turn you kill him for helping you, which is something a keeper shouldn't do. From what I recall, keepers have honor and don't hold grudges, but you shouldn't be taking it out on Zarion, you should be smacking your own face for not sacrifcing the armor fast enough.

Reply: Don't use Keepers to get rares. If you know what a Keeper is, don't expect him to reward you with a rare for helping him >regardless<. Korro could have did a better job of warning beforehand as that could have influenced whether or not they would help anyway, but this is just fine within the range of RP a Keeper can take. Hrimoyan (who's been around since Feb of 0Cool has never touched Winter for that reason alone.

There are many possibilities for RP with a Keeper, I simply chose one that I think reflect the current times/pbase best. But for example a Tethesis type with a few priorities rearranged could be a Keeper too.

You all have this idea that we're only to attack when one is marked danger. That's just when we have to, you all are simply used to what standard has been done so far. Keepers could go to war on rares all together (another RP point) but that is up to the leader at the time and it would take a good interpretation of the pbase (that kind of move would take a high pbase to do to make things interesting and for a lot of group warfare, but not in this kind of time)

Keepers are still an incomplete cabal (powers, motd, warcry) though it still manages to be competitive so its main appeal to me is the RP opportunities. I got to RP a character exactly the way I wanted to and be within Keeper bounds. Korro has done the same, and even then he cannot act out too far beyond the boundaries I set as leader. This situation is really not that bad. Don't use Keepers for rare gathering period. (The "Don't fuck wit a Keeper" was a bit much though Korro lol)

Reply: By the way, at this point in time, Goodies (thus Knights) were/are considered strongest in motd, so another rare for them (even if replacing one) at the hands of a Keeper would have a less than content feeling.

Yes, you could have been faster on the draw of sacrificing the armor on the ground as pip pointed out, lol.

But just to reiterate, asking a Keeper to hunt rares with him is like spitting in his face. Keepers don't hold grudges so a Keeper will just decline. But after actively fighting alongside you (for a quest) though a rare was a reward and not sacrificing it, you're basically saying "look the other way against your principles while I take this armor", a Keeper's honor won't allow that either.

Reply: Your mistake Hrimoyan, is that he "used" a Keeper to gain an item. As I gather, Korro asked for help. Therefore, if anything Korro was using Zarion and Zarion fairly assisted in the kill of an npc with rare items. Nothing Zarion and that group couldn’t have accomplished on their own. They all were helping Korro, not vice versa, as you see Zarion didn’t even have the quest at the time. All aspects of your character should be in play at all times, not just one aspect to facilitate your aggressive pk hunger, and a neutral attacking a lightwalker for picking up a rare item is not following your ethos and alignment imho. A Knight shouldn’t be attacking an oathed for killing a lightwalker (if that does not result in anathema) the same way neutral Keepers shouldn’t be attacking lightwalkers for picking up a rare item if they’re not a threat. Cabal flags are there for a reason, let’s not play naive.

And you can't have it both ways, either Korro is dumb as dirt and let someone who was wearing rares assist him in killing an npc with rares and “didn't know”(read didn’t care) that was going to happen, OR he didn't care enough to wait around for Keepers to assist him, who he would be certain wouldn’t loot the item or tell all that assisted him before the fight started that no one should take the rare. In either case it just makes the Keeper cabal look bad. Keepers (imo) are supposed to be the thinkers and diplomats of the cabal community not the blood thirsty legions or the duty blinded knights.

Just out of curiosity though, if Keepers can do whatever they want whenever they want why bother having the threat flag? What’s the point of it if the idea behind the Keepers is just to kill anyone with any rare and sacrifice it? Personally I thought the whole idea behind the Keepers was that if you are not a threat, and not caballed, and not hostile towards them, that cabal will not have an issue with you.

At the end of the day this isn’t my cabal so it’s obviously not my call, but to me this just looks like a slippery slope and an excuse for Keepers to do whatever it is they want without any RP or cabal flags behind it. What’s to stop a Keeper from killing someone with no rares because they thought they had one in their inventory? (The answer to that… is the THREAT flag) Basically, without flags the Keepers are just rogue agents that do whatever they want to whomever they wish.

Reply: Zarion is not a Knight by the way. He is a noble, the passive sect of Knights for all intensive purposes.

Picking up a rare infront of a Keeper is not asking them to look the other way nor is it going against their cabal edicts. Keepers themselves do not use rares, but I did not see it say anywhere that a Keepers duty is to kill anyone who even so much as touches a rare item, which is just what Korro did.

I'll reiterate that Korro made the choice to invite people who were wearing rares along to fight a monster that had a rare and set no standard before hand that they should not pick it up. There's no cabal justification here, unless you can specifically point out in your edicts where Korro was justified in doing what he did. I agree 100% with pip that this just looks like a legion kill to me.

Killing a Noble is no different than killing any citizen of Valour. It counts as one kill on the roll sheet, of which only the highest listed player currently online is anathema. Despite the somewhat out-of-date helpfile, Nobles are not required to be pacifists and the only PK limitations are to not invade cabals or commit crimes. It has been that way since Rigwarl declared war on Thera a while back. It was then that the Nobles became pro-active in Thera's defense.

Anyway, my personal idea of Keepers is to deal with the big picture, of which Zarion doesn't even register, affiliated with the Knights or not and not to nit-pick over a rare or two but it's the Keepers show to run. Their leader said that this character's personal RP fits within the cabal guidelines and that's good enough for me.

Personally, I see this as personal rp not cabal rp. To me, its saying that as a character he does not want anyone to have rares, which is more strict than what the cabal says.

Also, this log was posted on invokation and there is a discussion of it going on here. I don't see why there's the need for two separate threads.

well imo I think its a crappy kill thinking that this guy helped Korro do a quest and heal him and then he turns around and kill him for picking up one rare and dropping another. but then again with the roleplay i dont want people to have rares at all then why didn't he attack before doing the quest seeing how he was grouped with someone that uses rares if that is his roleplay? i would love to see keepers rank without asking anyone who uses rares to help them. a war on rares would be nifty but then they would never rank at all so in one way its a decent rp reason to kill him but at the same time its not i dont know im just rambling on

While I think Korro's actions were poor roleplay for a neutral/neutral and/or a keeper, now we're just beating a dead horse.

You were being left alone while wearing the oaken thorns (which is a low level rare), but you acquired powerful unique armor, and the Keeper gets understandably irked about it. That's in his job description (anti-rare cabal), which validates the "rp" of his annoyance, and with you already wearing Sevokan, its clear you were pushing your luck with the organisation already. You must have realised while you were standing around wearing Sevokan - one of the most powerful weapons in the game - that you were toeing the line. I wouldn't be surprised if changing that low level rare to unique was enough to tip the scales of balance in your favour completely. Besides all that, you were still granted a warning to remove it - which is more than you are officially entitled to - and you messed him around, first saying you want to "ID" first and then you clearly wore it in front of him and sacrificed your old item. So basically you ignored warnings and spat in the guys face with that gesture. I should also point out your dialogue in this log looks very AIM-y, I'm getting some nerdrage just reading what you are saying. In addition to that, its obvious that half the log is missing, so we can't even tell whether the group for killing a quest monster even agreed to any terms beforehand. So its ridiculous to make a claim "the keeper deliberately invited rared-out people to come help him get rares" when you don't even have a FULL LOG to show what actually happened. There is no evidence. There are a lot more questions left unanswered by this half-log of information. That's generally why we don't care to bust people based off of random logs.

I will probably be more receptive if people drop by with a few crap rares complaining about a Keeper ass-raping, but here is a guy with a couple level 50 uniques at level 47, which looks like enough to trigger the Keepers to me - I'm not sitting in front of the code, but its common sense if you stack uniques or rares beyond your own level you're going to get yourself in trouble. It isnt a simple 4 rares = dangerous formula, it makes considerations based greatly on levels and not so much upon actual utility to the player picking those items up. There are three other cabals in this game that are routinely full-looting their victims for their own reasons, meanwhile Keepers are only asking you to lower your rare count and help you level and quest otherwise, and you're complaining about them? Why don't you see how far that gets you with a Justice next time you "fuck with" one of those.

All too often I see people complaining about the rigidness of the RP of cabals and especially the good vs evil rp pk reason - I ask you, who is doing all this awesome RP we're supposed to see instead? I think if it wasn't for cabals and alignments you would notice little RP in this game, and you would notice a whole lot more mindless killing. Take a look at real life and you will see mankind has been killing to the order of GENOCIDE for plenty of stock, simple reasons. Religions? Yes. Resources? Absolutely. Those are what alignments and cabals basically cover. They're no-brainers and not things to criticize when holding the game's roleplaying under a microscope. They absolutely belong in the game, as much as they are present in RL, and you need to get used to that fact of life. I would not expect someone who cannot appreciate this to come up with anything better on their own, especially when considering what incentive remains for them to do so. These cabals provide SOME endorsed rp reasons, even if you dont like them. Go ahead and roll evil, then pk someone for having stupid-looking hair, you dont have to make a Keeper and have people whining like this about you.

Also, I'm not going to comment on the douchebaggery people go to when they name their logs, its immature but that's what you should expect from an unofficial site based around PK.
