PostPosted: Tue Jun 30, 2015 8:30 pm    Post subject: Ratling invasion!

A new race idea, tailored specifically for the most devious of AR.

Here goes:

Personality: Ratfolk are cunning and witty, favoring dark humor. Ratlings aren't afraid to backstab allies if their survival depends on it, but rarely will a ratling turn on a trusted friend. Paranoia usually paves the way for such betrayal. Many ratlings prefer stealth to open battle, and opt to gain every possible advantage in any given situation.

Physique: Ratlings have a physical build similar to a human, but they mostly scurry around hunched. Whether this is due a natural limitation on their ability to keep a straight back or the attempt to appear unassuming and weak is unknown. A long tail portrudes from their backs.
Ratlings have a thick but straight, greyish to brown fur all over their body, except on their ears, palms, tails and private parts. Their facial features are those of a rat.

Relations: Ratlings are usually treated with disdain for their appearances, treated badly, many have become bitter. They usually distrust other humanoid races and generally feel their territory is being encroached upon whenever another ratling is fulfilling the same, or a similar task.

Align and ethos: Ratlings raised in any civilized environment will usually bend toward neutral evil, as they are usually negatively impacted by those around them, shunned for their very existence and appearance.
Swamp dwellers usually bend toward chaotic evil, neutral evil, or chaotic neutral. Life is harsh and many living in the marshes. Many will do whatever it takes to obtain power. Shown affection or given a different par for survival, a ratling's behavior will change accordingly. Many ratlings have an intense fear of death and will do what it takes to survive, no matter what morals are sacrificed. Though their attitudes can change according to what morals they believe in, regardless they don't uphold them as ways of life.

Habitat: Many ratlings survive in the ugly parts of towns inhabited by other races. Though there are other ratlings outside common civilizations, living in encampments inside swamps and marshes.
Those who live in swamps and marshes are called swamp folk in common and swamp society can be thought of as similar to dark elf society. Ratlings living in such places are known to backstab each other on occasion, but the secrecy is limited to individuals, and lacks the mob lifestyle of drow society, as well as the religious standing.

Religion: Swamp dwelling ratlings usually worship Sakuragi or Zafrin, gods of death and mischief. They believe as long as they worship those deities they will be protected from death or accidents.

Available Classes: Thief, Ranger, Warrior

Stats: STR: 18 INT: 19 WIS: 19 DEX: 24 CON: 19
Resist to plague, disease
Vuln to (rat)poison
Innate ability: sense motion (because of their constant paranoia and advanced hearing/sight)

Racial Legacies

Ratling Thief:

Scavenge - Allows to loot items from corpses (out of range and inrange) without being noticed as long as they loot it one by one. After every successful item looted, the chance of being "caught" will increase. E.g. You can loot 1 item without seen nor getting PK flagged, second item will have 75% chance, third 50, fourth 25 etc.

Infectious: - Makes envenom skill a chance to apply plague instead of poison and drug other has an increased chance to plague someone.

Ratling Warrior:

Tail Sweep: Using their tails they will have an increased chance of tripping someone and even being able to trip/ground airbourne targets by lashing their long tail at them and pulling them to the ground.

Cowardice: Ratlings are thriven by paranoia and fear, when Ratling's health gets too low, they will automatically attempt to dirt kick the opponent without being hindered by it.

Ratling Ranger:

Behold the Power of Cheese: Ranger Ratlings are devot followers of the God of Cheese, Ozaru. Ratling rangers will be innately immune to any updates or changes to the realm, remaining to be OP even when other rangers are nerfed. They also get a mania and bodyslam skills. If they become Adept at their religion, they no longer are forced to follow the rules OOC upon death.

Against all Odds: Followers of Ozaru, the God of Cheese are unable to delete their characters, no matter how hard they try or how many times they attempt, cursed to forever keep the char.

Thoughts?

"Ratlings favorite prey are cheesy RPers", similar to Keeper mechanics if someone's RP becomes too CHEESY they will be Deathmarked for Ratlings.

Also, if a Ratling tries to recall they shit themselves instead.

But on a serious note, who would not like to be a badass eye-patch wearing rat with sharp daggers.

I think a lycanthrope race based off of werebeast could be very interesting. were-rats would make more sense to me than a full-on ratling, though the basic idea would be very similar!

Ha! Now this sounds fun, but I think they'd be one of the small races, not human-sized. Faelon's right, Ceridwel did validate this :-p so, add shadow to the mix of classes.

You can always get it as a custom race. I think we have rats and were-rats in the sewers. .
