Incase you have missed the subject, illithid necromancer is joining the fray as an elite-player only race class combo. I shall expose the reasoning here for those who do not see immediately why.

1) Most importantly is because illithid and necromancer is COMPLETELY against their nature, so, thanks to your uncle Resatimm, he has decreed that they must be undead from level 1. And like with vampire, you need to be elite status to be able to roll undead.

2) On the same note, the fact you are undead illithid means you are going to have a double vuln of slash and holy. That's pretty harsh. You also are unable to wield weapons so rend life is unavailable, so you're really looking at a very uphill way to play a necromancer.

ALHOON

Alhoons are magic-wielding undead outcasts from illithid societies. An
alhoon looks like a living illithid whose skin is dry and wrinkled,
never glistening with slime. Unlike other mind flayers, Alhoons spurn
others of their kind and do not hesitate to make other illithids their
slaves. They usually live in the surface world, often taking over a
wizard's tower or a witch's den. An illithid lich, alhoons are quick to
recognize a true lich as the enemy it is, and dispatch it.
 
Alhoons enjoy devouring brains in death as they did in life, but do
not need to do so to survive.



For those of you are still interested, here are the perks. I added a couple of racial legacies to make this race-class combo more appealing to those of you who actually are eligible to roll it (very few!). As you guys are going to be unable to figure out without help or dying I am going to give you what they do:

'SUMMON MASTERY'

Illithids becoming necromancers is against their nature, for it is the illithid
way to control minds, and the undead is without them.  Nevertheless, there were
a few illithids who became powerful enough to detach themselves from the hive
mind of the illithid kingdom.  Known thereafter as alhoon, these single-minded
creatures always attained lichdom and become amongst the most dangerous of all
foes.  For an alhoon, summoning their prey in an instant is an effortless task
for their capable minds, a fact they soon notice.



Its very simple, it delays summon so that the necromancer will exit lag right after the target arrives (there is literally a tiny chance to walk out of the room before the necro can attack). You will probably find yourself getting insta-slept if you have no saves on

'TIME WARP'

Alhoons, a true lich, are able to wield some control over time.  As an alhoon
gradually rises to power, their resolve to dispel difficult foes grants their
ability of DISPEL MAGIC a way to move time forwards, ageing the spell
on the target considerably, if it is not dispelled outright.  This ability
goes away with the pinnacle rank, where the alhoon is on equal footing.


This also is very simple, if they dont manage to dispel magic, then they fall back on a chance to lower the duration of the spell instead. I've spent a good deal of time testing this and I didn't see it firing very reliably, and you also lose it at 50 so keep that in mind. That's been the case for all of our racial legacy combos to give people the decision of whether to just stay at 49. In necromancer world thats kind of a no-brainer because you get a 3rd zombie, and I also think this spell would become too unreasonable with 3 zombies, so I can say with all honesty I am glad we decided to make every racial legacy package include one that goes away at 50.


Side note : I converted sleep back to a mental spell. I recommend lots of saves mental if you have to fight one of these guys because the summon/sleep combo is quite formidable (although I guess if you have a million mal saves landing it wont help them do anything)

A necromancer with cone and shock though... are they gonna keep illithid stats or will their stats change because of undead?

It is so darn tough to get a stake off a vampire. Yet when it was actually done, stake increase by 1%.

God, it should be like 20% improvement guaranteed for a stake or something! like how are you even going to get another chance? Lol!
