I saw the stream with Vaakuur and Inned having a duel and I just wonder if theres anything a monk can do against barrier? Or do they just have to wear down the mana? An if anyone says "they get a bonus when they drop in a style" 1) those only last a few rounds and 2) it eats up a lot of chii to have to keep doing that.. if there is any now.

My experience has been it sucks royally. Styles now do not go 100% through, only when you deal certain types of attacks. It makes it for a gamble. You are supposed to be able to chi bolt away their barrier, but it seems hard to build enough chii to chii bolt them.

Monks know weapons to defend against them. A monk using a weapon to fight another player is mostly going to be exiled because they aren't suppose to fight using weapons. I liked the old fist of fury, where it ate your chii to make your attacks do magic based damaged. Even your Advanced fighting since those strikes don't follow the style's elemental strikes

Andrael, please cite your source on your claim that monks get exiled for using weapons.

that'd be great if fists of fury went back to being a magic attack. supposedly it's to give extra attacks but I've never seen any difference

Wasn't exactly exiled, but lore wise, someone might throw a giant ass shit storm... Sorry for presuming, but Dav did say that in the monk change thread, page 8 very bottom.

If we're gonna get mad lawyer-y then I would argue that a monk using a magic weapon against a barrier-ed invoked is not using a weapon against a living creature. Rather it is using a weapon against a magical non-living entity a la the barrier. Now as soon as the barrier dissipates, the monk should then switch back to hands to avoid the lore bullshit.

I think as long as you're making an earnest effort to roleplay your character, follow the rules, and not be trash, you can do whatever you want and nobody will really care.

I'm not sure what the problem is since a monk can heal too. Try playing a berserker maybe.

Totally off topic, but I want monks to have self-immolation as a skill.

That would be cool. When you die in phoenix style your corpse bursts into flame and does aoe damage to anyone in the room every tick.

It would make you hard to loot.
