I know that there was a thread before, but it kind of died out. With the current air spells that exist in the game now, I figured this could be some things to add in that would give a way for Air specialized invokers.

All air spells do air damage now. Along with elemental mastery giving a vulnerability to air. Stone giants would be given an innate resistance to Air based spells.

Lower Slicing Winds from 27 to 19, giving Air Invokers earlier access to their more castable spells, but this would be done across all specializations for Invokers.

New spell: Coursing Winds - Due to their ability to control and redirect the winds, Invokers who use this spell enhance their ability to move quickly. It also allows the Invoker to cast while in a room under the effects of turbulent winds (i.e. stilled air, howling winds).

This spell does as it says, allows an air invoker to move a bit faster, Dav was the one suppling the majority of the idea as he though it could be nice to have someone who uses air to use it to speed them up to run a bit faster, the other effect is that only the air invoker can cast in a room under the effect of stilled air, giving them a boon against other classes that cast.

Air Specialized Cyclone - I have two ideas for this, either one cyclone has a chance to pick up a random item in a room and flings it at the target, either destroying the item or sending it out of the room. OR The cyclone could pick up dirt and dust, in areas where able to, which would then cause the one's afflicted by the spells damage to experience a chance of having dust thrown into their face, much like dirt kick but on a majorly smaller scale.

The last thing I wanna put out is probably giving Air specialist Enchant Weapon a chance to deal air based damage much like the fire/lightning/ice specialist enjoy as a temporary weapon buff.

These ideas are up for discussion this is of course to improve the game, so lets hear what ya like or don't like about it.

My thoughts:

stone giant air resist OK

slicing winds level change OK

coursing winds sounds OK for their weak ability. I want to know what "move faster" means. Less move lag is too strong for a weak ability I think, but it might be ok. It's probably not ok to have both coursing winds and the air elemental weapon enchantment though

Cyclone throwing items on the ground at targets is awesome. I'll code it and add secrets to it.

Air damage on the enchanted weapon is doable also. There's an extra status effect not many players know about on the proc though. The proc has a small chance of applying things like -1 str, -1 dex. What should the air enchant do?

Well, it could be like fire's which has a chance to blind from the smoke, just have the air enchant of the weapon have a chance to kick up some dirt or dust from the ground for a minor dirt kick effect. Like 1 or 2 rounds, tops.

On the move faster, it could be how I heard about it from Dav, but since the remove lag would be too high, it could be perhaps just makes it easier for them to move through areas, gives them a slight buff to save on movement while moving through areas where air is easily accessible and easy to manipulate in directions, places that aren't inside or underground.

Pushed the first pass of this to the development branch, it will go active in the next update (although it can still be changed). The special air invoker custom abilities aren't ready yet.

Big thanks for Olyn doing 99% of the work (adding the new air spells)

You can also consider this an earth invoker nerf.

Changes:

Added 'air' damage type
Added air specialization (invokers can use specialize air)
Earth invokers no longer affbreak on Slashing damage (but still hit all physical vulns including slashing afterwards)
Slicing Winds has two saving throws now (up to 2 stacks of affliction per cast)
Slicing Winds first hit is slashing damage, save for half
Slicing Winds second hit is air damage, save for half
Cyclone damage type changed to air instead of bash (no longer affbreaks physical)
Stilled air spell type changed to air instead of bash (no longer affbreaks physical)
Air elemental mastery breaks air and slashing resistances.

If air vulnerability and physical vulnerability are both on the same target, slashing damage will only be increased once (they do not stack).

I ran into a hiccup when adding the stone giant air resist - currently it looks like stone giants are meant to be weak against air. They get zapped when they try to use items and equipment made of material 'air'. We'll have to get buy-in from other imms to change that.
