It wasn't targeted at dk. We knew we had the general mount shop on the way, so we had to draw the line somewhere between expert riders and everyone else. Is the nightmare important to the build for either or both specs? |

At some point all mounts should be the same, do away with the crappy easy mounts. Going fast should need some skill to steer it, like it sets off in a direction and you need to take corners before your mount decides to crash into a tree Right? Also maybe we can have a command like "ride mansion", so you can just be super fucking lazy. Type ride for list of destinations, let your mount carry you there without bothering to type, set your position to resting and le tthe mount walk you over slowly. Awesome. This would be my main reason for getting a mount |

We can't have all mounts the same and still offer them to everyone. It would basically give everyone Knight stallions and we don't want that. As to your other idea, we can definitely have the gimpy mounts be lazy "take me to the mansion" beasts. We already have the groundwork for this done. |

I agree we can't give everyone the same kind of mounts knights have. That was one of the big things we were supposed to never do.
if there are going to be 2 kinds of mounts then lawful DKs should get the buff one
chaotic DKs should probably lose Nightmare Control and having that skill should count as having the knight mounted combat skill
what say the peanut gallery? |

no, un-nerf lawful dk mounts to make them like knight mounts
chaotic dk mount is nerfed (like druid stag) but knight mounts weren't |

olyn, we can enforce every mount the trot mechanics is what I was talking about. I wasnt aware of this yet, but it seems its already enforced on dk mounts, which I think seems good because thats been power creep anyway. if we made it such that knights have to actually cast a swiftmount cabal power to be able to do the easy movement shit, that way we can capture the cabal item and take it away from them for a while. |

pushed a fix for this into the patch. Dark knights will properly use nightmare control when attempting to move the mount in a cardinal direction without the trot, gallop, etc. commands.
Lawful dark knights are better at nightmare control than chaotic dark knights. A chaotic dark knight at 100% nightmare control has an equal chance of successfully moving to the next room as a lawful dark knight at 75% nightmare control. A lawful dark knight at 100% has no chance of failing to walk to the next room unless under the effects of hysteria of similar effects.
The consequence for failing nightmare control will be that you get an error message saying you need to get your mount moving, and no lag. So you can power through by spamming directions and maybe get away from an attacker if you run out of mv despite not having perfect control like a knight does.
In the future we may change knights to also use a success chance to walk their mounts based on their level of the mounted combat skill, but not right now.
This will give us a mechanic that will let us tweak the level between which mounted combat requires usage of the new mechanics and old mechanics, and give the players a new place to make mistakes that can end in death. Do you risk a flee/w/murder when mounted, or do you try to gallop a few rooms so you can make a mounted charge? I think we have the skeleton we need to extend this system now.
Since there's no lag on failure for now this is a little latency dependent and may not be fair to players with high lag, so this might see more work. |
