PostPosted: Mon Apr 24, 2006 11:28 pm    Post subject: New group to join - patrons

To help those without affiliations to find a sense of belonging even
where their class has caused them rejection from all other organisations,
"patronage" has been added. A patron is a paid member of the Seringale
Tavern, and shares some of the luxuries of Heralds (tavern access, gossip)
but without any of the duties.

To become a PATRON you must be nominated by another patron, or HERALD.
This will grant you the opportunity to BUY PATRONAGE at Thremus (the
tavern's doorman) to complete your patronage.

Key details:
* bards, the gleeman of Thera, are welcomed into the tavern without fees
* nobles are also allowed without fees, due to their majesty
* heralds have some additional abilities to manage the tavern
* Justices are grudgingly welcomed due to matters of Law
* members of the other violent groups are not allowed to join
* for everyone else, there's PATRONAGE

Keep in mind, though there are no duties, the rules of the Tavern must
be followed, if you do not wish to be barred from the tavern by the Heralds.
There is a code of peaceful conduct at all times.

Full details are available in HELP PATRONAGE.

'PATRONAGE'

Nominate:
To enter the Mocker's Tavern, the visitor must first be nominated
by a Herald or existing patron. The nominate command serves this
function. Everyone is eligible, except those within cabals.

Buy patronage:
Used at Thremus, this confirms that the visitor has accepted his
chance to be a patron and joined the tavern. He or she may now
nominate other patrons in turn, to expand the group further.
The membership fee of 10,000 coins must be paid once per month.

Gossip:
All patrons have the ability to gossip with each other anywhere in
the world, in addition to the usual gossip held within the tavern.

Nobles, Bards and Justices are allowed within the Taverns without
having to buy patronage - however, only nobles enjoy full gossip facilities
without being patrons. "BARRED" people may not become patrons.

Bilins patron note:

Quote:

<HERALD> Bilin: The Mocker's Tavern opens its doors to Patrons.
Mon Apr 24 17:06:42 2006
To: all
Greetings one and all,

The various silent Patrons of the Mocker's Tavern have decided to affect several changes to
our humble establishment in Seringale. Thremus, the former Justice has agreed to
permanently leave his retirement in order to watch over the Tavern. He is now a protected
part of the Mocker's Tavern. This former Justice shall be taking donations from nominated
persons, which will allow entrance further into the Tavern and allow Patronage. It is also to
be noted that the gleeman of this realm are welcomed with open arms, into the Mocker's
Tavern with little need for patronage or nominations.

A few specifics:
Nominations:
A Herald or current Patron of the Mocker's Tavern may nominate anyone he or she sees fit
so they may buy patronage from Thremus. It is important that our Patrons keep a heavy
watch out for those they would nominate, for once you allow them to buy patronage they
may enter at will and be detrimental to the Tavern's peaceful atmosphere. Patrons should
get to know anyone he or she nominates before he or she nominates them, as to keep the
Tavern respectable, friendly, and safe.

Patrons:
To become a Patron you must buy patronage from Thremus who will spread word that you
are a new Patron to the Tavern. Once a Patron (or Noble) you may gossip with anyone in a Tavern, a
fellow Patron (anywhere) or a Herald(anywhere) no matter where you are. A Patron is also
given unlimited access to the Mocker's Tavern. Patronage is not something to be taken
lightly, once a Patron of the fine establishment of the Mocker's Tavern, it is your duty to
make sure you do not nominate anyone who will do harm inside the Tavern, nor you yourself
do harm. Patrons are not the peace-keepers of the Mocker's Tavern and it is not their
specific duty or task to defend the Tavern in place of a Justice or Herald's bouncer.

Barring:
From time to time, violence takes place in the Mocker's Tavern, the occasional bar brawl or
fist fight may occur. Heralds will bar those who see fit to needlessly bring physical violence
into the walls of the Tavern, once barred you will not be allowed back into the Tavern until
death finds you or a Herald removes your bar. If you are found intruding in the Tavern once
barred you will be removed by some of the Tavern's less friendly inhabitants.

The specifics of this note do not apply to the Traveler's Rest Inn in Timaran.
I hope this letter has made the new policies of the Mocker's Tavern establishment clear.

P.S. The scroll HELP PATRONAGE offers additional information not offered here.

Sincerely,
Bilin Bollert.

Shamans, with ethereal passage can easily pass through the tavern without patronage and passed being barred. Is that the idea here?

Just a few notes about Patrons:

Patrons allow those who do not have any particular "cause" to nevertheless pledge themselves to a larger group for social purposes (some RL analogies are: dining clubs, fraternities, gentlemen's clubs, private pubs, orders such as a the Elks and Masons, and so on). Being a Patron prevents joining any cabal or other organizations (such as Herald or Noble). The most basic premise of Patrons is their fraternity to each other (i.e. no attacking each other), and they are also "patrons" in the sense that their periodic dues are the financial patronage that supports the Heralds with their publishing. In this sense, the Patrons have a close and symbiotic relationship with the Heralds. The Mocker's Tavern in Seringale is now the exclusive "clubhouse" of the Patrons, where only they themselves and other notables (Heralds, Nobles, Justices, and so on) are allowed to gain entry. For all others, gaining entry into the Mocker's Tavern (for example, to play poker) will now require being guests that are specifically let in by the Patrons. For more details about Patrons and becoming a Patron, refer to the in-game helpfiles.

Note that these retrictions only apply to the Mocker's Tavern in Seringale. The Traveler's Rest in Timaran is still free and open to all.

To further expand the social side of RP, the gossip channel has been expanded to allow Patrons and Nobles to gossip anywhere (as Heralds are already able to). Remember that just as with tells and group tells, the gossip channel is strictly IC -- the only non-IC channels on AR are newbie chat and pray. Guests within the Mocker's Tavern may also use the gossip channel as before, and those who have not been invited into the Mocker's Tavern may still join in on the gossip at the Traveler's Rest in Timaran. This allows the gossip channel to act as a pseudo-global channel that anyone may voluntarily partake in (i.e. an "opt-in" global channel), but with enough restrictions to reduce the abuses that are common on the global channels found in most other MUDs.

Remember, being a Patron nets you much of the same "instant friends" benefit of joining a cabal, but without having to defend any cabal grounds or needing to fulfill any cabal duties. We will adjust the Patron dues as necessary.

Lastly, note that the Mocker's Tavern is still protected by the laws of Seringale. In addition to Herald bouncers, those breaking the peace of the Tavern may be marked as criminals normally as per Justice laws.

Linde the Gleeman is inside the tavern, so unless you are a patron, noble, bard, exc. you cannot even start the first part of the nexus crystals quest. This seems a bit unfair, I guess. Confused If the quest could simply be redirected through someone else, or have Linde hang out elsewhere, it would neatly solve the problem. Just an idea.

Well, we can invite you in. We as in Heralds and Patrons. Wait for one to come about and ask if you may be invited into the tavern to complete the quest.

You know what would be super? If Patrons and Heralds had an ability where they could call for a waiter inside the mocker's tavern. When they did it, it'd be just like PET RETURN whereas Vikka (or some other waitress/waiter) would come to their location so they could buy items from her.

items like beer and wine and food. Speaking of which, the mocker's could use a bit more of a variety of foods and drinks!

Uh... a) is it really that damn difficult to do a quick "scan all" and move your ass 2-3 rooms to get some food?, and b) while it's fun and cool and all, the Tavern isn't designed to be a place where your character can effectively live and rot without ever having to leave. Pretty close, but not quite.

It's not difficult at all, which is why I'd suggest this. This doesn't replace moving, because A) you can sit in a room where food and drink is sold in the tavern B) Vikka is a mob already in the tavern, and she wanders currently, why not be able to have her wander to you?

This is pretty much an RP tool not a form of laziness. It's negative affects on the game are non-existant, so no harm in suggesting it.

And you could also raise the price of the food sold from vikka.

Fact is, it'd be an awesome RP tool

We can invite cabal members, but cabal members cannot be a patron. Inviting someone in is a one time thing, where as becoming a patron is joining.

This complaint is a bit late, but what if you CANNOT agree to the code of nonviolence exc. because of roleplay reasons? Suddenly, you are locked out of that quest. I just think if someone else had the green shard, it would simplify matters.

If you can't agree to the peace-code for the limited time you'll be inside, Linde doesn't wish to speak with you at all.

And if you cant agree with the code... Just attack your way in and hope a Herald isnt around to get the bouncer after you. If I am correct, Thremus is no harder than an average guardian. Just another idea I suppose. If he is too tough, level up some, cuz you will need to by the end of the quest anyways.
