Some of the material will be completed by Vanisse tonight, or later today.
This is a consolation for the messing around that has been done with the tick.
Tick is back to whatever it was in the first place.

'FISHING'
Syntax: cast, reel, bait <rod> <fishbait>

Adventurers have long sought ways to increase their chances of survival in
the harsh lands of Thera. One of the most common and simple ways to
acquire food and treasure is the act of fishing in ponds, lakes, rivers
and the various seas.

To fish, wield a fishing rod and find a source of fishable water. You
may then "cast" off to get started. When you see the first tug, this is
your cue to begin counting. You are required to "reel" as the tick
approaches, so that your reel completes *after* the tick has passed. If
you are successful, you will catch something. Note that baiting your
rod will improve your chances of reeling by making the reel last longer.

Things to look out for while fishing :
* Random pools of special fish, spawning all over Thera
* Undulav's task, "Catch of the Day". Undulav also buys fish. (Seringale)
* Devorast's shaman elixirs, requiring components
* Special fishing-related quests

If you are unsure what to do with your prize, you can of course eat it.

Well I should comment on this a bit.


I think it is a fair criticism of some of my own ideas for changes being much too "PVE"-ish for AR ...creating new areas we dont really need, maybe even overdoing it on newbie help, etc.. that's partly because of wanting to do something useful, but being concerned with upsetting the balance of the game, which a lot of work has been done on - and also because of getting some disastrous results when I actually try messing with it. With this however, I feel it has very strong PVP educational value for the tick (and since I'm happy everyone will know about it, I dont have to fix it), and also provides a mini-economy for newbies who can't task to make a little gold, makes it a bit easier to play a wanted character and so on. Also all the Imms pitched in with ideas for the affects so you can't blame it all on me this time.

I still think a fish that identifies as a "good affect" could have a masked effect and cause dysentery or plague. Poisonous fish!! Tasty but comes with a price!

Fishing is the perfect segway in pregnant mudding ,, Chick gets some baby batter ,,, bakes the baby ,, and while pregnat cant eat certin kinds of fish for fear of mercury poisoning ,,, why cant we get pregnant in AR anyway??

some suggestions:

Make the catch of the day task show the type of fish in affects.
Make bait have a chance to be lost when you get a bite, not just decompose.
I caught a chest and it didn't appear to have any keywords, but when I dropped 1. and got 1. I got the coins out of it.

I'm sorry but mining, fishing all seems to "WOW" too me. I love PVE, i seriously do but I like the difficulty aspect and the super gears that comes with it.....Not fishing...just my two cents...don't mind me.

Fishing is good in the sense that it's doing something besides sitting on your ass and reading digg for 30 minutes a day.

I share your concern insom but what clif said basically. Having some alternative activities for soloing (gambling especially comes to mind) isn't a bad thing with the lower pbase, and Winter is still there for people who find healers, and has the greatest rewards. We could potentially add things like socketing and weaving ..other item enhancements.. but they would upset the game balance and is bells and whistles anyway. So I'm abit at a loss for what to do about it. I can take things we have and make them harder to get - for example, replacing necro "soul" 10 hp with a "soul bag" that they must fill with souls first to get the hp bonus. Then adding a drow necro legacy to get a stronger bonus from their shrouds would be a perfect complement for their lower hp and damroll than other races (although zombie-related bonuses would probably be nicer since they lose autosneak for that - a much bigger hit than the hp) If you would like things like that we can think up things like that.

I know log on look for rares is what a bunch of people at high ranks play for. But Golds also important with gambling and adding new ways doesn't disrupt the economy much..it just provides an alternative way to get value for the time spent. So sure, maybe wow does have a lot of goldmakers in it. I can't help that. But it doesnt have gambling, which requires some startup gold at the very least. Keep in mind that gambling is a relatively new addition to the game that has proven quite popular because of its items complementing the common high +stat of rares. AR has a real economy now.

I think fishing is a good idea. It doesn't upset the balance. It isn't necessary for everyone to do. It just gives you an extra way to get some gold, some rp items, and lets you do more then just twiddle your thumbs, all while learning to time ticks.

I don't like the socketing and weaving idea though. I think AR is a pretty killer game the way it is, we don't need any flashy WOW/FFXI type of farming stuff. I think those type of things have given those games too much of an economy. I don't play AR because I get to go and weave baskets and then sell them so I can buy cool armor, I play AR so I can go swing an axe at some guys throat.
