Isogai vs Shikuro (Stream)

Shikuro stands up.

Isogai offers to shake Shikuro's hand.

Fat drops of rain fall loudly through the trees.

Shikuro accepts Isogai's handshake.

Shikuro says 'Yell when you are ready.'

  1. Damn wtf did you guys do to Shadows.. They are super fucking strong.
    1. for real....I fought a shadow with I think five or six ranks and no matter what advantage I had or anything I did I was getting dunked to the point where I don't think I did 1% of hp damage to them. FIVE ranks higher I should be able to hit you once specially with the type of char I was using. I think shadows are OP.
    2. I think the new shadows make YGIN look like a pussy
    3. They were underpowered. So we gave them haste, gate, cure light, a massive damage buff applied through assassination, weapon specialization, and an extra defense that works 100% of the time.
    4. right and now there is not balance at all because I can't hit them and they just do OP damage! my favorite.
    5. I'm not disagreeing. I don't even know what shadows are even supposed to be anymore. They're supposed to be kind of a rogue/mage hybrid right? So why do they get stronger defenses than either rogues or mages? And higher sustain? They can heal better than a paladin and get 3 defenses while dual wielding? That alone should be setting off some major red flags. I feel like shadows were just given a bunch of stuff that sounded cool, without much real concern as to the big picture of class design.

First off, they were given a bunch of huge damage multipliers but I feel like nobody stopped to do the math to determine just how big their damage would go. Ninjas already had 3 attacks, enhanced damage, and can dual wield without penalty. They already puts them in about the highest tier for damage output, just below warriors and berserkers. Mark of shadow buffs damage output with each level, and assassinate instantly takes you to max level marks of shadow, no questions asked. Then shadow machine further multiplies that damage with extra attacks. Then you have ninjitsu specialization further multiplying the damage with each hit. And if that's not enough, there's art of scorpion which applies yet another multiplier in damage output. Did anyone bother putting all of that into a spreadsheet to see what the final damage output would look like when everything is said and done?

And then there's defenses. Shadows already have dodge + parry + counterbalance which, honestly, is all a rogue class really needed. Chii compliments that with a pretty nice AC buff. With rogue classes the focus should be on escapes rather than defenses. That being said, ghostwalk is absurdly powerful for any class. And it works 100% of the time, regardless of skill proficiency. No defense should work 100% of the time. If you want ghostwalk to be balanced, it should trigger about as frequently as the blur spell. And now, on top of what is still, even after being nerfed, possibly the strongest defensive skill in the game, they also have heals (which again works 100% of the time regardless of skill proficiency and yes I reported this) and the ability to quickly restore mana just by kicking things.

And then we still have the strongest escapes in the game (which ninjas arguably deserve to have), a detection skill that detects EVERYTHING (and again works 100% of the time regardless of skill proficiency, did someone forget that skill % was a thing when doing the shadow rework?), and a massive assortment of direct damage spells more powerful than a dark knight's.

inb4 "play one yourself if you think they're so strong". I did. They felt broken. I don't like playing broken classes, even if it means I get to steamroll everything in sight. That's not fun to me, that just feels like cheating.
    6. So now is when hopefully some adjustment can be made cause it's clear that they aren't even close to balance
    7. Shikuro is whupping all your candy asses and you got nothing to say other than how good the class he's playing. Reminds me of the Lorne mania threads..
    8. divsky, is the shadow class right now more powerful than a human shaman? Cause if the answer is no (and I'm pretty sure the answer is still no) then I don't see what the problem is. The class was just reworked, the skills are a little rough around the edges, but relax and be still man it's gonna be ok
    9. im not even talking about shikuro im talking about another shadow that I fought on a different character you can't just ignore the fact that shadows are super OP right now. again I didn't fight shikuro I fought a different shadow on a diff char and they were destroying me like it was cool
    10. did you log it?
    11. I use the flash client most of the time while im working so I can't copy and paste or I would.
    [reply to beia]
  2. Haha that was through tenacity, in crane with 61 hit roll and I can't do a thing about it -.-
    1. Why use crane, isn't you supposed to use monkey, ghost avoids physical.
    2. I think Isogai going crane was a better choice than monkey, monkey is good when ghost avoid all your attacks in one round. You hit them light and hit them a lot. Ghostwalk was changed to dodge only 1 attack per round I think, so monkey is not necessary. Yin style is always better considering the amount of damage your are taking. In addition monkey would put you in inferior.

I think shadow shuriken is a little too OP. The damage dealt is really sick actually, but I wouldn't say it is VERY OP. Shadow shuriken at this point will destroy anyone in a straight up combat regardless of stance, at least against monks and rangers. Monks have a hard time because Shikuro is really really fast to stop you from healing and he destroys you in whatever style you go with shadow shuriken.
    3. right so he can get 7 attacks??? so in a way he has dance of the silver shadow or some dumb crap. I seen him have 7 attacks that's dumb for a ninja/mage class. Not even warriors really get to hit 7 times consistently like that.

      Isogai is mortally wounded!!

7 times and lowest was a mutilate.
      WOW
    5. use crane and skirmish I managed to beat gweic ONCE but got dunked two other times by the shadow. I used crane and skirmished them
    6. Maelorn they have third attack and dual wield you idiot.
    7. but dual wield and third attack for a warrior and you aren't consistently hitting seven times, they do almost EVERY single time. SPECIALLY if they are skirmishing...you have no idea what you even talking about because your not fighting them and seeing 1st hand the issues. i don't want to offend you at all and you can call me names all you want but I KNOW what im seeing and it isn't just one round of seven attacks lucky him its almost every single time seven attacks...
    8. Well Maelorn, third attack dual wield plus 3 deathstars a round. 7 attacks is pretty common because all he needs is 4 attacks in dual wield. On average you get three attacks in dual wield, 4 happens once in awhile and 5 is like so rare that I've almost never seen them. I've never seen 6 attacks for dual wield.

Anyway what you pasted was two combat rounds. It ended only because Isogai was mortally wounded. There would at least be three more deathstars after that.
    9. Combat rounds occur every 3 seconds, while the murder attack happens independently. Both do the same amount of damage. This means that there will be occasions where someone will murder at the same time as the round occurs, and get a "double round". This is why sometimes level 30 characters get 1-rounded. As you can input 4 times per second, which I'm sure you'll know if you ever rolled a character, this means that your chance of getting one of these is 1 in 12, and with some practice (I assure you, I put in that practice in my time), you can make that chance a lot better, and have an absolutely beast flee-murder offense.

We could probably disable that, but stop saying that its shadows because its not even a shadow thing. Its an every body thing. Have you never autoraged someone on a berserker? Cuz with autorage you get to do that without having to try to do it. autorage is bad fucking ass. When I was playing Maxlhorn, I used to seriously get raged, quaff a recall in combat and then walk into south square and just one round a level 50 when I was bored. If I was rolling a 50 berserker I wouldnt waste that opportunity for carnage by joining warlords. I would get a wild weapon and a haste and get someone to recall me raged and then walk in and tip my hat in north square with a justice there and a bodyslam ready to go

      pfft
    10. in fact holding the bodyslam and just moving when they flee to follow them and wait for the next autorage would probably be ideal but would get you reported for exploiting mechanics I think

Anyway, I might look at shadow shuriken because I don't think it should hit more often than melee
    11. Dav, wasn't that what I just said and explained to Maelorn?

Anyway, I was just telling him shadow shuriken gives an additional 3 death star attacks, so in a double round, that is 6 deathstar attacks, and if he hits an average of 3 attacks a round, that's a total of 12 attacks in a double round murder. That is insane.

So what's the difference between shadow and other classes in getting a "double round" the difference is in the shadow shuriken proc rate. It seems like a guaranteed 3 attacks which gives a guaranteed 6 attacks in a double round. I think that is huge, having a guaranteed 3 attacks a round. Classes with third attacks even getting a double round, DO NOT hit 12 times. I repeat again DO NOT, I have never seen it in 200 murders, so I TERM IT AS DO NOT because 200 is a large number enough to say that it DOES NOT happen. Then again, just IMO. Yup.
    12. I just brought up rage coz I think lesser minds will understand it better. shadow shurikens and rage are both some sort of damage bonus.

If you just took a minute to think about it, you would see that what's going to actually hurt them is make things costing more mana. ALL their good shit costs mana to use. Like, decent mana.

There used to be a way for a monk to kill a bad shadows mana. It was a form called "dummy overuses ghostwalk" and you would just monkey style and roll him with it. You could instantly tiger style and roflstomp when he is done I think? Shadows used to also enter the game with 0 mana, so could be caught meditating. Now they get to start with full mana. I'm pretty sure those were both divsky-demanded changes but I think other people were also saying it looked like bugs. Well there was a damn purpose for them having some real mana problems. You could go pick a mage if you didn't want mana problems, and deal with your hp problems.

You can blame those guys for the above nonsense. Meanwhile divsky's saying he won't play the class that his own complaining fucked up. Can I just say about fucking time! I don't really have an answer for how to easily OOM a bad shadow player now that ghostwalk isn't doing that with ease anymore. We'll have to fix it.
    13. I am interested to see how things would play out with this combat round disabled. Would fights last longer? Giving people a chance to actually play there class out a bit?

  4. Shikuro is just exceptionally strong, he does so much damage even when you have aura up.

    1. Shadows have the highest damage in the game, best defenses and best escapes. Time to play a shadow!
      1. Make him a goodie Knight please k thanx bai

    2. This is still a step down from instant kill
      1. I'd rather them have assassinate and get insta slapped then this bs. Doesn't even make sense.

    3. It looked like one round of fighting and a bunch of shuriken damage.
      1. yup it was. and through tenacity too. i have literally no idea how to win this combo at the moment. it seems quite unbeatable from the side. of course shikuro is also a strong player no doubt. but there really is nothing I can do after eating just 1 murder.
      2. maybe the shurikens shouldn't throw on the murder, that is even better than an extra attack
      3. in the specific case where you get a doubled-up initiate + combat round I mean
      [reply to Davairus]
    4. Wow...I can honestly say I've never seen a prepared monk get his shit handed to him this badly. I mean, damn.....
      1. i was prepared for some big damage and also eventually the loss, but yea i got it handed to me so fast i was quite shocked at the end.
      2. If you know a shadow coming for you, drop some health, eat a poison pill etc
      [reply to Xenyar]
    5. You cannot get upset at the immortals. A lot of new things that are rolled out are tested to the best of their abilities. The rest of it has to be tested out in real game situations then adjusted from that point on.
      1. Rangers wounding shot could be used to start fights
      2. Healers had barrier
      3. Zerker rage mania
      4. Dkn all kinds of nerfs happened
      5. Monk changes

Accept we can be guienna pigs accept you will die to someone in an unfair setting from time to time and just move on. The more upset you get the more upset you make the immortals and then they call you stupid and no one wins.
      1. I can definitely say that there was no way to get Abyssal Bulwark right without testing it. I could either go whole hog and make it what I wanted or I could dial it back and make it shitty and nerfed too hard. The former is a little OP but you guys can post bugs and logs to fix it. The latter is hard to fix and only gets resolved if Davairus or Olyn step in and say "this is too weak, you need to buff it".

That happened with Mystic Tendrils, if you guys remember that. I was afraid to make it strong enough and it went through 5 buffs before it was what it is now.
      2. Not upset or anything, in fact i enjoy duels with Shikuro, just feedback i guess
