Comments

  1. Notice the consistent three attacks that goes through every round? Apparently even the murder rounds do not work. +25hit/-5dam is just too good to be true. Such a thrashing, oh well. Crane wing technique? Lol, what a joke. By the way, I have 36 hitroll, pretty decent hitroll IMO.

Basic monk defenses, 1sthand parry, 2ndhand parry, dodge, +riposte in leopard or +cranewing technique in crane, really?

Yeah, just me complaining after a duel that practically could have gone no other way. Lol, fuck my life.
    1. So FYI a monk in crane stance is at about 40 to 50 hit roll since Isogai is a warlord I would imagine his eq is pretty damn good. I know it is tempting to dual wield, but you want to go whip shield block and murder the crap out of him. Plain and simple 30 hit is not going to cut it, this game gets back to basics with just equipment. It doesn't matter what weapon style you have when you have 40 /40 hit dam.
    2. Whip/shield block? not only do you do less attacks/damage, you let yourself get crane kicked by using shield, really? and I had 36 hitroll, not 30 hitroll, if 40 hit is the sweet spot, 36 is definitely closer to 40 than 30.
    [reply to Ivendel]
  2. some fights are hard.
use weapon he don''t know mace dagger polearm
i noticed he used duel wield style must change to two handed.
i dont know if concentrate working. my warrior doesnt concentrate.
    1. :) using two-handed does not work, ever. I am already using a dagger in offhand. Maybe a mace will help, but meh, no, all of his attacks still go through. This fight is a straight up pwnage, he didn't even heal. I don't know how those monk attacks work, but apparently his attacks are going through too easily. Either it's an elf thing because of the pathetic parry that elf has, or those attacks negate dodge. I was blocking nothing at all, nothing.
    2. Oh and btw, just in case you are not aware. Using two-handed does not work because if you use a bow, your arrows can still be dodged normally and also blocked by the cranewing technique because of the special defensive empowerment of the style. Kudos to that because normal arrows are supposed to go through all dual wielding fighters in exchange for the pathetic defences in bow, but apparently this does not apply to monks. Good luck to you if you only proc 1 to 2 attacks per round. If you use a polearm, you lose one defence coz you only have got dodge, parry and riposte (albeit it supposedly being more effective in two-handed style but in practice I do realise that I get hit a lot more when I switch from dual wield to two-handed), and the same applies, good luck to you trying to get attacks through his defences if you proc only 1 to 2 attacks per round.

Concentration doesn't proc coz you need 2 to 3 rounds before combat style advantage kicks in after switching styles. Normally by then you would have taken too much damage and decided to switch back to dual wield to defend better and match the damage being dished out to you.
    3. Count the number of times you dual parried that fight before you complain about how switching to two-handed would ruin your defenses.
    4. Lol. You and your two-handed and hobble theories. Alright, suit yourself.
    [reply to Moondog]
  3. Why are we putting [DUEL] ? You can just hashtag it
    1. Sorry about that, I am not used to hashtagging.
    2. you select from the dropdown and press the + sign
    3. got it! I tagged #warlord too! sweet
    [reply to Davairus]
  4. Alright, these are just a few things that I do not understand or agree on:

    1) Obviously monks are a fighter class (they dish out decent damage and have the best defences in the game) but they are not susceptible to combat skills like all the other classes in the game (except for an illithid who cannot use weapons but they can only be a mage anyway). As a warrior, I can at least use sideswipe/barrage/overhead on a ranger, warrior or berserker, but can't do the same to a monk because they do not wield weapons. HOWEVER, they get to have skills like crane kick that works the same as barrage. Why?

    2) From what I have gathered, monks do a minimum of 3 attacks per round, whether in leopard or crane style. The chance of those attacks proccing is 100%. Comparatively, for a warrior, from what I have read somewhere else in the forums if I am not wrong, 1st attack = 100%, 2nd attack = 50%, 3rd attack = 25%, 4th attack = 12.5%. This is for the primary weapon. I believe that the percentages are halved even further for the offhand weapon, essentially netting 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%. So for a dual wielding warrior, you get an average 1+0.5+0.25+0.125=1.875 attacks for primary weapon and 0.5+0.25+0.125+0.0625=0.9375 attacks for offhand weapon. You add those two up, you only get 2.8125 attacks per round, not even reaching the 3 attacks per round for a monk.
Of course, the argument has always been that monks do not have enhanced damage and generally do less damage as compared to other fighter classes, but that opportunity cost has been more than compensated for by their highly efficient healing and non-weapon use which does not open them to combat skills (sidestep, uncanny, sideswipe, barrage, etc) or disarm. Therefore, I wish to dispel the misleading notion that monks do not do good damage, considering the consistent number of attacks they do per round, and when couple with the next point, they become highly efficient.

    3) Crane style gives +25 hitroll and -5 damroll. Now, that is a nett +20 points worth of stats. Nothing is stopping a monk from using high damroll equipment and then using crane style to get that +20 points. You combine that with the consistent 3 attacks per round, this duel result is what you get, 3 consistent attacks that goes through every round with a steady stream of damage that can overload randomly from dragon punches. Why is this necessary?
    1. So, I mentioned the "problems", the staff would expect some kind of "solutions" or "suggestions". Well, I can only suggest and they may not be the best options, but at least I try right?

      1) Either monks should not have things like crane kick that counters shield or they should also be subjected to weapon type and combat style skills like everyone else.

      2) The nett +20 stat points bonus from crane style should not be that much. Perhaps some reduction should be made? Crane style should not be blocking arrows either, that is if using bows in the first place is supposed to negate all forms of dual wield defences in the first place (see conventional combat between fighter classes when bow attacks go through all dual wielding styles).
    2. There's no balance problems here, you just performed poorly. First off, why a frostbrand and what I assume is a fiery dagger? Those are two of the four weapons monks actually have. You're a warrior. You have access to literally every weapon in the game. Take advantage of it.

You should've gone two-handed and used a polearm. You say that warriors have terrible defenses in two-handed and that's just wrong. Polearms are excellent at parrying, and dual-parry is a very weak defense. In fact, you know how many times you dual parried that fight? Zero times. None at all. Dual parry was not helping one bit. You're an elf, that makes you good aligned, so I'll let you in on a little hint: Blessed pike. It's ave 28 damage and it's ALWAYS in. I know swords are a favoured weapon on elves, but you would've been doing WAY more damage with a blessed pike than a frostbrand (which is what, ave 21?).

And most importantly, there is only one skill in the warrior's arsenal that's effective against monks: Hobble. Get style advantage, hobble them, then flee/murder. You didn't hobble at all. Not even once.

Don't say monks need nerfed when you did none of the things you should've done during that fight.
    3. Oh and if you think that monks not using weapons is too big of an advantage, try playing a monk against an invoker. Not being able to use weapons is a double-edge sword (no pun intended). Sure, against a warrior with no vulns it seems great, but it really sucks not being able to change your damage type on the fly like every other class.

You see an illithid and you wield a slashing weapon. You see a dwarf and you take out your water cube. You see a fire giant and you wield a frostbrand. You see a vampire and you wield a diamond studded mace. Monks can't do ANY of that. They have a few special attacks in each style that will deal special damage types, but for the most part they're stuck dealing a plain physical damage.
    4. Use overhead crush. If it lands default stance is defence which you like. Then switch to two swords.
If they scared of overhead they will use defence to block it.
either way you getting the defensive stance you want them to have.
    5. Divsky. From what I have read, I can only conclude one thing, which is that you obviously have got no experience fighting monks as a warrior. Well, it's either that I am gravely wrong or you are extremely ill-informed here. In any case, to each his own then. I will respect your opinion, if that has been your combat strategy all along.

Oh and I do agree with the limitations of being a monk when faced against an invoker. Still, you let monks barrage a shield-wielding warrior and not allow the warrior do anything of that sort to him, that to me is just plain unfair in the matchup. But heck, it's fine. I doubt anything is gonna change anyway, but I got to try nevertheless.
    6. Moondog, thanks for the input. For the sake of discussion, using overhead crush is risky as hell and does not benefit the warrior at all. Why? Coz the windup lags for one round, and if the monk switches at that time, you are gonna be lagged for another 3 rounds after execution due to the miss. To me, that is a straight road to losing. Say, in the event that you do land your overhead on crane, it does not rake or "disarm" the monk. The monk can still continue his attacks as per normal while you lag yourself for 2 rounds upon execution and he is lagged for 2 rounds due to the crush (if this is the first lag skill you used on him), else he is just gonna recover within one round and do whatever he wants with you.
    7. You've been on a campaign to buff warriors for a while now.
    8. Davairus:
Hrm... I wouldn't really say that my aim is to buff warriors. I have accepted the limitations of warriors as it is now and I have been doing my best to work around them ever since I started playing. As I play, I come across problems with certain matchups and I have sought solutions to them on my own end before highlighting them to the staff or bringing it out to the forums for all to see. Most of these issues, to me, are things that could have been overlooked during the design phase, possibly due to a lack of feedback or there were simply no such test cases. Thus, my aim is really to address these specific issues instead of asking you to buff warriors on a general level because such "buffs" can cause undesirable outcomes if done wrong.

I hope this clears up my intention.
