Horns stick forcefully out of the top of his disproportionately large
head. Reaching unrelentingly towards the sky. Thick around as some mens
arms they reach first outward then turn dangerously upward. Gleaming as if
polished marble and tapered to fine points. An overwhelming amount of mucus
seeps from his nostrils where his hot breath comes out in such forceful
blasts it isnt only felt at five paces off, it can be seen. His eyes are
difficult to locate, large as they are, because they match the color of the
fur that adorns him from breeches up. Two large ears stand just over his
brows and seem to twitch and turn with his gaze. Shoulders wide enough to
rival a giant and a chest deep enough to house a dwarf support arms as thick
and sinewy as the famed Odoacer himself. The trunk of his body continually
narrows as it meets his hips, giving him an awkward disproportionate build
that seems he might stumble and land face first in the mud if he moves.

  1. I have to assume that weaken screwed him a lot. Lugging possessions around really messes up any sort of ability to chase/move. And it seems like he did chase. So... as long as you survive, you win. He won't be able to chase you anymore while you heal up.

    1. Yeah. The first fight I didn't have any way to cure blindness. It was stuck in my sack and I couldn't get it out.

      The second fight it was mostly weaken. Both fights I ended up without any move points left. So I just had to drop a trophy and make a final stand. But that doesn't really work against a shaman. Especially stuck with only one weapon (all the others were too heavy) and doing barely any damage. I got absolutely out damaged by a shaman. Even before weaken he was hitting way harder than me.

      1. Yeah. Time to keep smaller weapons and saves gear. I’ll let other people comment on what might help you since it’s been awhile for me. I’ll give what I’d try next.

        I’d be taking advantage of concentrate weapon/combat styles to help with dealing more damage. So not just carrying massive axes might be a good idea. Maybe weapons they can’t use. Unless something else they have helps against advantages, I can’t remember all the changes from weapon ward removal.

        So I guess my thoughts are mostly saves. Your murder flee looked like it was doing well. Take my advice with a grain of salt though. I’m out of touch and rarely played zerkers.
        1. Saves, especially maledictive and mental, help a great deal against a shaman. In the case of a berserker, a headbutt which causes delirium will definitely turn the tides in their favour, but this tends to happen only when raged in my experience. Roar is not to be underestimated either; it weakens as a baseline, and even causes hysteria in the opponent while raged.

          I seem to recall some Immortal saying to me early on in my AR career, when I was sucking with a berserker, that berserkers should be played like warriors up to the 300 hp mark, and at that point you have to decide whether to run like a bat out of hell, or try to finish the fight decisively with rage. Not sure this holds true any more, and keep in mind this advice is from maybe eight years ago...

          that is kind of how I have been trying to play. Not 100% of the time, but most of the time I try to skirmish and use warrior skills, maybe throw in a roar. But mostly fight as a "warrior" until I am nearly dead, then I rage. Every time I have won that's how it has happened and I typically go to 0 hp after winning too. So it's always been pretty close.

          In this fight specifically I tried to land those headbutts so that I could stop him from casting. But if you'll notice it never actually worked. I threw a bunch of them in both fights but to no avail.
          Afterwards I thought maybe I should have tried roar. But honestly I don't think it would have made a big enough difference. I don't know. Honestly it is a hard game and I feel like I am so far behind that I don't even understand why I lose every time.
        3. I record all fights that end in death and study them alot of the times, especially when I lose I'll read them through many times. Look for things that worked, things that didnt work, things I could do differently, the way people react, etc. Just scroll back and see what you did. Which skills, were you spamming needlessly. Did you try something and it didnt actually work the way you think it did in the heat of the moment. Theres tons of shit flying by and its really easy to miss things when you are running for your life, or seeing red as your target limps away.
        4. So your strength is lowered right? I don't know the formulas for anything but I assume that a strength skill is less likely to work if your strength is lowered. I don't know how much this effects it, for all I know there's a mechanic that says that a lowered strength is less effective than an equal unlowered strength (23 str lowered to 21 being less effective than a 21 str that is a natural 21) but regardless your strength being lowered will change how well that skill works. I just can't tell you how much that affect is. This might be one of those things where you decide to carry a +str item in your bag to compensate for the loss of strength. It'll make it so that weaken has a significantly less or no effect on you. Those heavy weapons you carry are usable again, headbutt and weapon attacks with str checks are more effective. You play a strength class, it's detrimental to you. Nevermind the fact that when your weight affects you you can't move around as well, more moves per a room means you'll run out a lot quicker and your stuck without an ability to skirmish or flee if you have to. You can also just wear saves gear like you said. I would force him to have to wear save break gear, it lowers his health and means he isn't damaging you as much. Which you know, you aren't damaging him as much either because you're focused on saves. But look at how much he was hitting you compared to how you're hitting him. Again I don't fully understand the mechanic but you're using strength techniques against him when your strength is lowered. Of course you're going to struggle. You now have some idea of what you're vulnerable against, prepare for that. Take away his advantage. You have the strength to carry the extra gear, it doesn't hurt not to.

      2. I feel like it was a waste of time and effort to try to land insomnia on him unless you were planning on retreating. His moves were already going to go down quickly because of weight so it’s not like he’s going to be able to run off and rest or let the duration end and fall asleep. If you were set on trying to get the easy kill by getting him to fall asleep enfeeblement is surprisingly under utilized, screw over entirely on moves and just skirmish until he does fall asleep. I do feel like you had the right idea with hysteria and plague though. You already know he doesn’t have armors to prevent the effects of weaken so screwing him over more with plague or maybe even tossing a poison his way might make him weaponless entirely. Not that you need the advice, you got the pk anyway.
