Celebrating the Invasion
Serving an Abyssal Warchief was an honor few Quasit were gifted with the opportunity to experience. To do so do during the preparation of and leading into the Invasion of Serin was an even luckier twist of fate. It was the first night of celebration following the opening of the portal, and the mood within the Sunken Temple was brighter than usual. A luxurious feast had been lain by the servantile Quasits, from blood worms to starlight wine, no expense had been spared. By the end of the night, things had taken many an unexpected turn. I had taken it upon myself to leave my Warchief an exploding package in his chambers - a pathetic attempt at a joke by Quasit accounts, but something to celebrate the occasion. No one expected the Warchief to think himself under attack, nor did I expect his woman in waiting turned victim would be my beloved fiance, drunk on starlight. Trickery took and trickery gave, for the Warchief would soon suffer the consequences for what he had done.

Description:

From unknown origins a barely perceptible, slow and measured flapping can be heard in this room, filling your heart with dread. As you hunt furiously for the source of the noise, your eyes fall upon the outline of a tiny flying creature in the nearby shadows. With a single high pitched and satanic giggle, an impossibly small creature reveals itself to you. It is supported by enormous and clawed daemonic wings which appear unnaturally large for the creatures size. Tattered and torn, these wings disappear into a disproportionately immense ridge of spikes protruding from the monsters back, while somehow still keeping it aloft. The tiny devils gaunt body is wrapped in thick ebony leather that has been hardened into protective plates, covering her from neck to ankle, allowing only her pointed tail to project through. Hands and feet are instead clawed, with talons not unlike any harpy you have seen. Tightly bound to her waist you are able to see a belt of Abyssal flesh pressing her weapons tight to her person. Baleful black eyes glower at you from under a cascading mess of white hair. One side of her head is shaved, revealing the glowing mark of the Eternal Pyre branded into the flesh of her skull. Two glossed black horns protrude from her and curve towards the pits of hell. A grin of razor sharp teeth can be seen spreading across this young Quasits face.

  1. Lol @ rage delete. Is that because I committed suicide first?

Unfortunately I don't see a path forward for me to be a part of Serin and I think this character was my last attempt.

I don't have any interest in PvP and the investment loss to me is really unappealing (and I don't take it well, as we all know). It just isn't enjoyable to go up against veterans, so I literally sit down when I get attacked because I just don't want to participate.

I thought perhaps I could approach things from an rp perspective but that's not really an option and the SINGLE interaction I had with my cabal immortal in the over 100 hours I played wasn't pleasant. I lost the connection I had to my character when my name was changed, which happened without anyone speaking or saying a word to me. Really discouraged me from playing as well. Maybe that was the point?

Thank you to everyone who spent the time helping me gear up and answering all of my questions. I very much appreciate all of the time you invested in helping me.

Sorry for any inappropriate behavior, OOC slip ups, insufficient roleplaying, verbal abuse, or anything else I did.

I'm honestly tearing up as I write this because I put so much time and heart into the character this used to be.

I am all for roleplay, as we all know it brings alot to the game, along with the adrenaline rushing PvP aspect. I learned over the years, as I played more characters, I tried to develop that part of my game the most. I had the PvP aspect done quite earlier, as that is a major driver for most people that play the game, but being good at the RP aspect really brings in that HoE element. It pushes your character to a whole different level, and although I'm still not great at RP these days (infact, no so good at PKing either anymore), I still enjoy it alot.

That being said, I liked how you were trying to develop that in your character, especially with Legions being very quiet as of late. However, Legion is a PK cabal first and that has ALWAYS been the case, infact probably the most aggressive and dominate PK cabal. It is right in the HELP LEGION file. "Above-average combat ability is preferred, and knowledge of the layout of Serin is required. The pursuit of power in all forms is the primary motivator behind those in the Legion. Its power structure and ranking systems are inherited from the shattered Eternal Army, the organization from which many of the original Legionnaires came."

If you don't have any interest in PvP, you shouldn't be in Legion, that's a clear line. It is a fighting cabal, that strives to dominate with ruthless power. If you just want to write some scrolls, which are great, you should stick to Heralds, or even try your luck with Justice as they are more enforcers and can be quite passive unless called upon in action. Cabal members are expected to fight when called upon, that's why they get special powers, you can RP all you want as a non-cabal member or a coterie member and no one will force you to do anything. You can't have all the perks of being a Legion then say you don't want to fight and throw a hissfit when the Immortal Leader tells you to go rake some bitches.

You can come at it with a RP perspective, and people would expect that from you already as an above average player (that is your expectation when you enter a cabal), otherwise don't join a cabal, simple as that. There has been many memorable players that can do whatever they want without entering a cabal.
    2. Well, to be fair Abaddon (Adabon, whatever), other than the time you got upset with me for catching you AFK and killing you, you pretty much kept things IC. Since this is OOC, I will will be honest: I deliberately attacked because I saw weakness (being chaotic evil and all that, ;). Thieves are not especially strong in toe-to-toe combat; quasit thieves are even less so. Legion is not for the faint of heart, it is for those who seek to dominate Serin (almost said Thera lol) through PKing. I have only rarely seen thieves in Legion, and I don't remember any of them doing especially well.
    3. @Lorne:

Thanks for recognizing that I was working on my PvP! There's no arguing that Legion is for the deadly PvPers. Because the halls were empty I was working towards this idea of building out an army so I could (as a Quasit and follower of Sakuragi) quietly cower in the darkness and pull the strings.

I probably shouldn't have been in Legion to begin with, tbh. Had I been required to kill someone to get in, I doubt I ever would've, haha.

Defending my item was never a problem, as I was never on when the Keeper took it back - but I certainly would have had that opportunity arisen. If I was told by an Immortal Leader to go rake some bitches, that is certainly something I did not see or respond to - not sure what you mean there?

      @Karea:

I can definitely attacking someone when you sense you have the advantage - that's definitely the only way I'd win. But there's also some crappy logic behind the winky face culture of "I knew I was better than you, attacked you and killed you and took everything anyway". You do see that, right? I mean the RP is 100% on point, it just makes for a shitty player experience for someone who can't fight to begin with (or is afk, haha). You feel?

I honestly blew up at you and I'm legitimately sorry about that. I was super duper upset and you'd be hard pressed to call that IC. Sorry again.
    4. Please ignore my ridiculous typos/missing words..
See? This is why I cant PvP.

There has been many successful thieves, most of them being neutral and evil. I can think of at least 2 evil thieves, one being a high ranking member in Legion at the time wrecking havoc on everyone he saw. He would have been at least nominated for HoE.

It is easy to be an average thief, annoying people and stealing titanium earrings etc. But to be a great thief, it takes a special kind of player and one who can recognize opportunity and has great patience.

I played a legion thief myself once, and although I was told I did ok, I was heavily overshadowed by my good friend Code_64 at the time who was playing a shadow (then ninja) and cabal leader.

adabon if you want to pvp get a client called jaba mud client. You don't need triggers or anything but I do like to use #highlight to highlight the names of Justices white so I see them log in on who. All you need to do to pk with JMC is go to sleep and enter all the commands you'll need in your pk. You type like murder idiot and dirt idiot and c 'cure l', and c lightning idiot. The game doesn't do anything because you can't do that, you're asleep! Then you go up to your guy and start typing the command you want, press up, then press enter. So you go to idiot who is in north square and you type m <up> <enter> and JMC autocompletes "murder idiot". You do that anytime one of your enemies logs in in pk, but don't do it when anyone else in pk is around or they'll backstab you while you're sleeping & typing and then you're fucked

      See these comments:

      * It just isn't enjoyable to go up against veterans, so I literally sit down when I get attacked
      * the SINGLE interaction I had with my cabal immortal in the over 100 hours I played wasn't pleasant.
      * I lost the connection I had to my character when my name was changed, which happened without anyone speaking or saying a word to me. Really discouraged me from playing as well. Maybe that was the point?

You're playing a victim here, complaining and whining. We get it, you are annoyed and want a break. Take it. There is no need to shit on everyone on your way out.
    9. What a disappointing response, Davairus.

You're breaking rule #2 - attacking other people (ad hominem), by saying that I am whining rather than addressing the specific issues that I raised. I would be delighted to hear your likely joyous commentary in response to those pointed, specific questions and concerns that I raised. They are pervasive in your game and (at least some) other people clearly either agree with me, or recognize them as issues.

Your response here is INCREDIBLY problematic, particularly in that you can't be bothered to address any of the concerns that were raised here. You instead chose to attack a player that committed over 170 hours to this character (and many others) in your game.

So, understanding that you're #1, breaking the rules, #2, avoiding addressing specific issues, and #3, abusing a player for expressing their frustration with their experience, can you think of a more productive way to approach responding to this thread.

      Thanks.

Saying that you are whining is not an ad hominem attack, its a clear and concise description of your behavior. If you feel attacked by what I said, it reinforces my point, that you are playing a victim, and actually, are behaving very obnoxious in retaliation to a perceived threat (which doesnt exist). Its all projection with you. You aren't the first to do it and you won't be the last. Cut out doing it towards me or I will kick you off the board.

Well I guess we all enjoy a good drama, don't we. Listen, Abadon, you've provoked every negative reaction you got.

For the benefit of any people read this board thinking a player's explosions are my doing because I'm rough on people, please refer to the original statements he wrote, which includes this: "I'm honestly tearing up as I write this" -- see THAT? That is emotion that has already long boiled over. I won't say being cheesed off and frustrated about a rename is wrong, but that level of reaction is disproportionate and stands out as very unusual in my years of experience.

Abadon, taking your ball and going home, insistent on leaving forever. Is that because thats what you feel it takes to get revenge after all the fighting you started is over with? Especially because there's nothing left for you to actually delete anymore is there. Its not very imaginative of you, and doesn't concern me at all, really. I don't care whether you play or don't. I think you just can't stand being called on your bullshit.

Lorne likes you for whatever reason. It would have taken a very long time to write the careful response he did. However, I don't think you appreciate the effort. Personally, I haven't made my mind up about you yet. I'll just tell you in honesty that your behavior sucks. It continues to suck. If you don't like my feelings about your behavior, fine with me, because its obvious to me you don't respect the feelings of the other people who play here.

  2. Don't quit, just play a different type of character. Play maybe a herald or a healer. I liked your character and was looking forward to meeting her when I pinnacled. I have rage quit many time after a first death at 50 so I know the feeling. Number one do not take it personally. Hope to see you again :) PM me to talk more, I might have an Idea up your alley.

  3. This makes me sad. I had so many interactions with this character, had a total blast all the way around, to traveling with you, fighting you, ect. I do have to admit the name change broke my immersion. Immortals, if you don't catch a name change pre-50 leave it alone. This character had almost 150 hours by the time this name change took place, and this character was broken by having its name changed like that. I will admit that the name Abaddon messed with me briefly when I first met the character, but the interactions and roleplay with the character quickly rose above that. I did feel that Abaddon should have been much more aggressive, but you had no real reason to want to fight my character so it made sense to me. Legion is not supposed to be challenging the strongest cabal when they are at 1 member, so I say you made the right choice. I hope this is not the end, as there are plenty of rp opportunities. I will say that the most fun I ever had on a character ever, it was because of the rp and not the pk. (People logged the fuck out when I logged in, so I didn't get to fight like I wanted all the time...) Every person is different, but for the most part, people don't fuck with heralds or mystics.
    1. I was tearing up writing my original comment, this response definitely made me cry.

I remember I sighed in game once, and you asked me if everything was okay. That's such a simple act, but it honestly meant so much. I don't get asked that question by the people close to me in real life.

Thank you for recognizing that a character name change can have such a big impact on someone. I tried to shake it off and to shake off my "daddy issues" having immortal granted new title. I had never interacted with an immortal prior to that on this character. And sure, I get the abusive distant dark parent thing, but like.. why? Respond to the 3 backgrounds I've written or the 25 blood candles I had placed at the altar of my god that I sat at for hours. Don't just be a dick to me for no reason, you know? /endrant (I'm venting, sorry)

RE: not being more aggressive - yeah I think I should have been at times as well. I just never felt the desire. In my mind, I was playing the trickster card by befriending everyone and focusing them on adventures while I grew Legion in the background.

I don't know where I'll end up just yet. Maybe I'd be the next Trelanya. She was a Herald Healer, right?

I really enjoyed our interactions - you never had much time at once to play but as I said, you left a mark.
    2. I'm still around but there has not been enough action/activity lately for me to really have much interest in tending to a coterie all on my own. If I knew at least one person had an interest in becoming a Herald or at least a Patron (that's what notes are for, I try to log in every week), you can bet I'd try to catch that person.

it was the name of one of the primary big bad evil dudes in Warhammer and everyone who plays games workshops tabletop wargames or the warhammer online games was bitching about it. He's a legion he can suck it up and deal. If he was a herald maybe I'd have given it the white gloves. This guy should be honored to get renamed by me. I give him a dank ass name and a custom title and what thanks do I get? You filthy mortals are unworthy of my love.
    4. Just to make sure we're all up to speed here, you actually changed my title to "Still has Daddy Issues" before "The Filthy Mortal". It sounds to me like maybe you're projecting here, talking about unworthy of love? Do you need to talk about it?

I assumed it was A bad don, as in like Godfather type shit...
    2. I like the interpretation, Vertas!

      @Ozaru:

I've never played dota 2, so that's a huge surprise for me! I definitely pulled it from the hebrew translation of Apollyon. It was defined as:

"The Hebrew term Abaddon (Hebrew: אֲבַדּוֹן‎ Abaddon), and its Greek equivalent Apollyon (Greek: Ἀπολλύων, Apollýōn) appear in the Bible as both a place of destruction and an angel of the abyss."

Being a Quasit (demon, flying wings) from the Material Abyss (abyssal place), it seemed like a spot on name for my character that would've been contextually appropriate to a medieval dark vs. light time.. Now yes, it's actually against the last rule of the name scroll:

"* A name from a popular work of fiction - books, movies, TV, video games." (I'd call the bible a population work of fiction). So yes, you got me there. However.. The next line in the scroll says..

"Note that, for the final category, it will only be renamed if an inquiry comes from the playerbase - however, it is advised to be proactive and tell the Immortals you need a new name before somebody else does."

After 150 hours, the origin of my name and any association to the bible was long gone. So.. I guess someone complained, and that's totally on me for risking it.

I've been playing off and on for years (well over a decade), and there was a time when an Immortal would pull you into a room and have a conversation with you. They'd tell you that you needed a name change, and either have you come up with one on the spot or give you time and have you pray on it to them. This was just.. abrasive and the name I was given felt like I was being mocked.

There's a difference between a (unintentional) violation of the rules (you got me on a technicality! 150 hours later, you got me!) and working with a player that has put that kind of time in and treating them like their time and feelings don't matter. This was.. the latter. Whether intended or not, it made me feel like shit.

I think there is a certain expectation for Immortals to be just, fair and polite. Which, I think, is fair to some extent as all Imms are administrators in some capacity.

However, everyone has their own flavor in how they deal with certain player interactions or even punishments. Some do the whole transfer and "yo wtf you doing?" slay/deny routine that is OOC, while others try to keep in more immersed and develop a more IC interaction, even when it is trying to enforce game rules, I think this is especially true for Immortals that are cabal/coterie leaders dealing with their members.

The punishments IC are usually alot less severe, can be surprising at times and even have some silver lining. I think the best way to deal with such situation is to run with it and who knows how your character can develop?

I once had a trashy level 50 shaman that became a Dreadlord in Legion, then became an Assassin then became part of the short-lived Covenant. I was turned Undead, had a custom title, custom tattoo. Most of these were kinda...gimps along the way mind you and punishments for OOC gangbanging and stuff. Like an Undead shaman that was missing spells was pretty easy vulnerable to alot of shit. But man, I had alot of fun with that character by the end.

Yeah dude, don't give up. You want to RP you can always play a MYSTIC or HERALD. Also thieves are a really hard class to play well, and are really unforgiving when you make mistakes. I hope you keep playing, I enjoyed our interactions.
    1. I honestly might give once of those a try. I was a Justice at one time as well and remember enjoying that balance of RP and PvP. The special guard did a little more than the solid shadow ever did! (if I recall correctly)

I initially chose Quasit because I thought the ability to hide would keep me relatively safe, but I find that without some way to know if it's actually working or not it didn't actually help me. More often than not I failed blackjacks and I was rarely actually hidden. Oof.

Thank you for the kind words :) Maybe I'll see you some time soon.

I prefer to rp in legion. In order to RP heavily in legion you have to be so badass that nobody wants to attack you while you're RPing, and you have to develop a consistent RP that ensures other characters know that in certain situations you will never attack them. You have to be really careful about breaking your own rules or you'll get outcasted from society and nobody will rp with you anymore

Sadly that's how this game is. There's a certain immortal who runs Legion as he pleases and has NO regard to the fact that people actually invest their own personal time and effort into the character and the game.

You spent 100 hours of your life that you never get back and on a whim of acting out a badass, the certain immortal always takes his power-tripping on another level.

I'd recommend to stay away from AR until such literal assholes are allowed to decide on the fate of others.

I mean come on, the name Nycticora CORVUS (really, Corvus?) is way more cliche and void of any RP/immersion than Abaddon. There is zero effort.

All he has ever done is powertrip and literally copy features from WoW - great stuff.

(Knowing that the dude is a scrawny puss irl does not make me surprised that he needs to show his power in game)

I wanted to transfer him to the renaming room and play good cop / bad cop with Phostan where Phostan would want to execute him with knightly punishments like beheading or firing squad and I would argue and demand we had to give him evil and chaotic punishments instead.

If you worship a chaotic god your chaotic god is going to potentially do chaotic shit to you. The chance increases the higher profile your character is. If you worship Nycticora or enter the Legion cabal and you attrack my attention I will eventually interact with your character. That means you will be interacting in-character with the most powerful chaotic evil being in the known universe, who cares as little as it is possible to care about your well being.

The name is kind of goofy. So what? We had Vlad the Impaler and floating cityguard heads and guys named Abaddon. The idea was there were these indigenous savage people somewhere in the northwest of Serin and there were a bunch of tribes all named after different kinds of birds that eat meat. There was a huge war between the legion and the knights after Rodyn left Valour and the only survivor of the savage people was the first vampire, created when the last starving survivor of the savages named after crows cannibalized the corpse of one of the savages named after herons.

He is exactly why I never even bother to play AR anymore.

Not only has he completely ruined Legion due to VERY biased approach to players, judging their account (e.g. buddies get special treatment etc) not their character, but is also a prime example of someone who has no respect for anyone's efforts or time invested into the game.

There's so many games out there to play where one can be free of biased staff, there's just no reason for a true PKer to play AR anymore with probably the worst person for the job in charge of Legion.

        And just to clarify the severity of this case;

I know at least 3 people currently who have quit directly because of Nycticora's behavior/actions/changes.

This is 2019 - none of us are kids anymore, we have limited free time and if we choose to invest our free time to the game we would prefer not to get 170 hours of progress to be wiped clean on a whim of someone powertripping.

        That's basically all.

I miss the game, but there's less than 0.1% chance that I ever reroll a char unless something changes.

I straight up call bullshit. Nycticora can be abrasive, but he has brought a lot to this game. You don't like how he treats you? I can assure you he only fucks on people who deserve it IE cheaters/rulebreakers.
      4. Except it is ok for him to blatantly break the rules. Here is the second hypocrite everybody. Your bubble must be nice. You guys are like a bunch of highschool kids no sense of responsibility or integrity and in your own little clicks that no one can be apart of. It is starting to be an immortal only game and if you are not one then you can go to a different MUD. You guys really know how to alienate a player base. What's the mud at now? 8 people max? I would argue half of that is the Immortals fault most definitely and the other half is technology.

It's a small circle that gets all the benefits. - It's like a frat or some shit and they are all defensive about each other while completely biased and subjective.

Nadrin has cheated more than once. A lot of people here have done OOC/cheating, including Nycticora aka ranix himself.

This game is not about "justice" - it's about who's ass you lick and who's dick you suck. Revolting

And if you look at some of the pretty plain characters that have been insta-inducted/promoted with barely any hours, background or desc or hell, even a proper RP then it's pretty obvious that people are being judged on account-basis, not the character they are playing - which is completely opposite of the "immersion" and "privacy" that all the imms breach about.

Double standards, subjective approaches, biased "justice" - the list just goes on and on...

It's fine though, there's about 5 players left who are all circle-jerking each other (Nycticora) included - so let 'em have fun in their own little game while grown-ups who can't be assed to deal with bullshit invest their time elsewhere.

    3. And if you weren't playing, or planning to play you wouldn't be bothering to post so often here either.

      1. It is really simple. You are one of two people, you are either part of the solution or you are part of the problem. People who get insta inducted are NOT getting inducted by mortals, or cabal imms or the like. They are using the autoinduct feature, which nearly everyone should have available at this point. It is really easy to have a reputable account and if you have been playing with your nose clean for a long time and do not have one its easy to send a note to the immortal asking what you need to do to get reputable. Chances are you will get it. Otherwise, the only advice I can give you is to quit whining, either play or don't but stop bringing other people down with your senseless immature negativity.

        1. You know, I can straight up say I have never cheated. I used to be OOC, which meant I talked to a lot of people, I coordinated logins sometimes asked for who lists. That was 8-10 years ago. You think I would be reputable with a halls of exalted character if that was still me? You think I would have made mortal leader of nearly all of the cabals at some point or other if that was the case? You are delusional.

          1. meh i don't see a problem with any of the immortal staff they are awesome if you do what you are suppose to. I can count numerous occasions where nycticora interacted with my character in legion and it was fucking sweet. you can't just expect her to jump out and give ya a high five for dying. Abaddon from what i can tell from your character is 1 you rolled the wrong play style for what you were looking for, as people have said herald or mystic might be better idea. 2 you can't pk. Im not just saying that to be an asshole but your pk skills aren't quite up where the vet players are at shit ive been here for ages and am still not as good as some of the other players who play. 3 you come off as entitled by posting stuff like this and starting a flame war on the forums. The immortals don't have to do shit for you if you catch their attention and prove worth their time then maybe you'll be lucky to get some attention. BTW getting your title changed is a step in the right direction it's hard af to get a title change to something custom ive put in 130+ hours into the character i have now and have no title change nor have i heard from my cabal leader. I don't want to bring you down or think im baggin on you in a negative manner i just want you to see that effort will get you farther than forum flaming.
            1. BTW my comment is not meant to flame lorne at all, he has been freaking awesome he sends updates and opinions in notes he also has promoted me 2 times while i was offline which is a rare most times you have to be online to get promoted. anyway i just wanted to clear the air on that so no one thought i was bashing him.
