Whispers of a sly, silver-tongued snake drifted about the Unlit City for
many years. While most drow centered upon combat, another breed of dark elf
honed deception and sleight of hands. A man favorable at cards, able to
charm someone out of their coin with a devilish smirk or wink. The kin of
said drow disowned him, considering him a failure for his odd craft and
casting him from their noble dwelling. For some time, the "Serpent" as many
called him, made profit from cheating cards and panhandling as a second
identity. Gold came easy and reputation followed as citizens began speaking
of a wealthy gambler disguised as a lowly beggar. It was not long before
ranking officials took notice of the drow, deciding his actions dishonorable
and mediocre.
One evening, a militia of the Unlit guard arrested the man while he
panhandled as his beggar persona. The vast supply of coin he acquired was
taken as a generous donation to the guard, stocked in their coffers. For
three long and laborious years, the Serpent was behind bars in the darkest
of dungeons they could muster. Once set free, he was cast from the depths
of their domain under penalty of death should his return come. Without a
home and stricken poor, the wounded snake slithered his way from the
darkness and sought new horizons.
Once a deceiver with a taste for gold and infamy, old habits are remarkably
hard to cease. Seringale seemed a suitable location to begin acquisition of
funds.
Act II: Realms Above the Dark
Years passed and time carried on, the past's inconveniences mostly
dwelled behind him. While not flourishing with riches and reputation as
once before, the drow did well enough to get by. Much time was spent
learning of music as he felt natural with most instruments he picked up. A
few card games here, a few performances there, as the bard drifted across
the lands in search of serenity. There was much conflict in the realms
which made travel somewhat dangerous in certain areas. With a bit of luck
and a slippery step, he managed to evade most skirmishes over the span of
his worldly travels.
The chosen home was Seringale, however. A reputation as an artiste and
gambler sprung within the citizenship, known to deal commonly with shady
folk. The Serpent had not lost his touch for coin gain, though he took more
to a bardic routine in performing songs for practice. Once adept with his
instruments of choice, violins and harps, he set out to explore further and
pitted his services in with the Heralds. Rather than be a renown hero, or a
notorious thief, he simply wished to be renown for his musical affinity.
Beyond the horizon in view was always a story to capture, a song to conjure
or a person to make introductions. Age continued to hone his interests and
wisdom helped his survival, steadily moving to life's next chapters.
Act III: The Silver-Tongue
After much contemplation and extensive studies, the man found
enlightenment from the aspects of Chaos. The years continued to unfold new
concepts, new considerations, which blended with already darkened beliefs.
It was then he became a Herald for the Legion where he felt most proper and
in place. Conflict and conquest through Thera seeps a bloody path and the
Serpent could only stare in wonderment. Such destructive force was as
beautiful to him as the manifestation of life, for it adorned the cycle of
things.
An exempt parchment from the Serpent's personal journal resides:
"As swords and shields clash and clamor the night, burning fields touch the
senses with befuddling fumes. War is a necessary evil, some say. For
each drop of blood that caresses the ground, a killer becomes more skilled
at their trade. Light would claim that killing their enemies is for the
sake of protection or progress. In the end, a death on the battlefield is
no different than a slit-throat within the darkened alley. Chaos is freedom
that inspires the thoughts to see things more clearly, not to dim them. And
as the realms dawn another tide, the fate of many souls will collide."
Description:
A disposition of allure accompanies this drow's athletic build. He lingers at average height for his race, but his ivory eyes capture each detail in a tantalizing gaze. Strands of silken, silvery hair cascade in unkempt tendrils down to the neckline, which dips low to reveal his pale grey skin. A red-ink snake marks his left eye and cheek, slinking down to just above the jaw. All motion is fluid when displayed and encompasses a balanced, methodical, and calculated shift. Calm and composed in demeanor, the male invokes a natural charisma that is hard to ignore.
This was my first character. I'm a heavy descriptive role-player and I fully intend to remake a toon on AR sometime, the game is incredibly fun. Things have been very busy with me IRL doing full time job + pursuing a career in web development.
Since it was already stated; I am indeed Squidly, also played the character Qarysk -- though, I was far more involved with Irion. He was a pleasure to play, and my next character will be something different enough so that no one will have any idea it's me; until he, or she, is dead anyway.
This is a most excellent community, and it was a pleasure role-playing with all of you. After a short break, I will be back.
Also, I didn't really mean to make him inact, I simply forgot to log in recently and figured my schedule will be terrible the next coming weeks anyway; so, now is as good of a time as any, I suppose!
You were so awesome to be around. I ranked a character with you all the way to 50 and everytime I saw you we were grouped together and adventuring. Can't wait to see the next one.
