Born and raised in Valour there is very little interesting about the
upbringing Lenne. Not at all any severe loss or great fortune that drove
her to wish to defend good or walk the lines of the wicked. Early on in her
youth she was sent to the nunnery and she did not have any feelings towards
the institution regardless. However after some time she came to enjoy the
quiet solitude of prayer and the solitude of her vigils and missionary
works. As the years went by her status and position rose in the convent.
Gradually more responsibilities rested on her shoulders, and soon she was
selected as one of the physicians assistances to the Castle of Valour. It
was a great honor and it was there she saw the terrible afflictions and
atrocities the Legion brought forth. It was during this time she pledged
her oath to defend Valour by might if necessary, regardless of the pacifism
required by the nuns. When she told her superiors of her decision, she was
expelled from all of her duties without further word. Although it was
somewhat a difficult blow, she decided she would continue with her teachings
and begin her fight against the darkness and Darkhaven.
Description:
Girlish traits, short blonde hair cut around her head as a bob. Bright blues eyes with long brown lashes, and pale skin with a brownish tint to her cheeks. A very slim body, delicate and free of any blemishes or marks. Her movements are elegant and dainty, careful not to move too quickly or slowly, not to offend. Long white nails point out from slender finger tips.
As someone that tried to return I really want to suggest you try and direct this game towards fun vs work. I mean, with a million other games out there I can't comprehend how you could think sitting around at level 40 for a week or more afk training as a squire is a good idea in hopes of making this game more entertaining, exciting, or popular. It isn't a job interview yet a lot of this game feels like a job (a hour spent running from clear to purple potions, and back, just to fight for 20 minutes comes to mind, or being an outlaw and losing access to almost every single shop in the game when only 1 justice ever even logs in??? - or having to farm gyvels constantly for one shaman/dk fight, etc.). maybe I've been spoiled by every other game I've played (even darkfall/2 didn't require this much work) and just lost my edge to play this game. Hell I had interviews with 3 separate knights, a mystic, and a noble and still no induction. It just seemed like everyone wanted to feel authoritative and strict without realizing I'm just playing for fun. This is just for fun something to kill time as I work from home, nothing more an definitely not mean to be a replacement for the real life stresses I need to deal with. Most people don't ind job interviews fun, so why would it be fun to include them in a game?
For better or for worse it is nice I guess to see the game moving in some direction rather than none.
I'm sorry that you had to wait a week and sounds like have to roleplay too much. I have not been working on this area of the game (i.e. cabal induction process) other than to decide how to improve it. I am backed up with lots of other tasks and trying to get monks out of the door. I simply have not have time to implement the change to cabal induction process I have already planned. I completely emphathize with the game feeling like work to some folks.
http://abandonedrealms.com/issues/
Would you mind letting me know where you think this problem ranks among these other 250 already reported problems, so that we can appropriately prioritize it? I assume your delete/rant implies you think it should be at the top?
I've been logging in multiple times at various hours daily trying to catch you to induct you. Maybe we should update the VIRTUES to include patience. Also, did you not see the note saying strong consensus had been reached on your application?
Ceridwel, you might have a point if there was some consistency with enforcing the 2 week rule. We all know that doesn't happen.
Lenne put in quite a bit of time the past week. It's a shame... Don't give up curisq. Roll an illusionist, ninja, zerker, or something and go trash some folks for a bit.
On one of my Knights I had every thing I was tasked with done, the only reason I wasn't inducted was because of that two week waiting period. So I logged in like, once a day and just did some random stuff until I could log out. Gather potions, plant plants, practice on spells, etc.
Xanthas, you make a good point. I've adjusted the helpfile:
[code:1:d112cd14a6]'SQUIRE'
Syntax: squire <character> <y/n>
Before a person will be considered for induction into the Knight Cabal, they
must spend enough time as a Squire to prove their mettle and to complete
the tasks set out to them by the Knights of Valour. For some this may take
longer than for others. While patience is not one of the VIRTUES, it is
something a Squire must embrace while waiting for consideration for formal
induction.
When a Knight takes a squire, they are required to send a note to Knights
notifying of the squiring and outlining what tasks have been assigned to the
new squire.
[/code:1:d112cd14a6]
Cabals have always been a crap shoot when it comes to induction (cept for the new fangled auto-induct) Roll a Legion and tell them you're going to prove yourself by slaughtering others, instead of reciting poems and watching grass grow for two weeks.
It seems entitled. He needs a smack in the mouth in my opinion. Or are we at the point that playerbase is low enough to pull this bullshit and get away with it cuz we're desperate for numbers? From the comments above you can really see he had everything going fine
I kind of feel the complete opposite of Curisq. On Khalesras I held back the urge to zoom to 40, then zoom to 50, without really any grounds for my own roleplay. I think we have it way too easy to rank, by the time I got the spriggan title I was already 40 and had been squired, so I did not get to enjoy that on my way and pre-squireship. I remember asking an Immortal about it to bring it to their attention, but I had only been waiting from Oct 31st to Nov 12th or 13th, but I didn't want to sit at lvl 1 for two weeks either.
Whereas Curisq wanted in, I wanted to stay out and practice, but truth be told I suck so bad with illusionists. You don't have to sit in guild and afk train, but the guys inducting you want to see numbers and masteries. We conquered quite a bit together, I hope you return with a character. When I get frustrated over cabal politics and such, I usually take a long break from them and run solo for a good while. Things are changing so fast I feel myself reverting to a newb though.
I urge both of you to roll up a new character and give it another go, with hopefully better expectations of cabal inductions. Also, blanket rule, send a note to Immortal if you're ever, like, WTF! and hopefully we can bring you off the frustration-delete ledge.
Remember the whole bluevm fiasco? Moving AR to that server was a bitch. And moving it AGAIN was the same shit all over. You want to talk about wasted time with me, hit me up, I have plenty stories about it. Think about all the time I've wasted on people who were multiing eq, talking OOC shit, flaming the MUD on the forums as if they deserved to run the place. That includes you Captain Dork.
Forgive me if all my invested time has caused me to lose perspective on the plight of a squire who not "getting in" despite an obviously impressive 0-3 pk record. It must be a problem with me, I am incapable of seeing such obvious greatness......... SYKE. That was all bullshit. Ceridwel did an absolutely fine job with you. Absolutely fucking perfect and I am proud of him. He kept a foamer out of Knights, gold star
Truthfully? I wanted to play a few chars and not join cabals at all just to keep al ow profile. I just gave it a whirl to see how id do. So if you think "Keeping foamers out of Knights" is really doing much but "Keeping people from wanting to play your game" you need to step out of your bubble. Me complaining about the wait time to join the Knights is not me railing against you personally Dav, nor is it trashing all the hard work you imms and players put into the game. And as the imp why do you really need to lower yourself to trash talking and name calling? It really degrades you and the entire image of the game. Especially for me just giving my opinion. I didn't say F*** this game and everyone in it!!! The game rocks but so did EQ and a game like EverQuest would never survive today. Why? Not because it wasn't awesome for 1999 but because mmos have come so far that the level of tedium you dealt with back then just isn't as appealing as it once was. The same goes for MUDs. You guys have just stuck to your guns longer, and for those who have faithfully played the vortex of AR seems normal. But most MUDs have caught up with the idea of letting people play less but still be able to reap the rewards of people who play more.
And aren't the Knights the newbie cabal? Doesn't it point to that conclusion in the helpfile? So what difference if my score was 0-3 or 0-10?
Wasn't bitching about Ceridwel either fyi. But just look at the Knights (disclaimer: Not blaming any imms). They seemed a lot less active before the executor delete, which only made for a lot less inductions. All the squires I'd seen halfway through last month are deleted, 50, or inactive, and I hadn't seen any new ones. You can't tell me that sort of squire turn over is not indicative of some sort of problem. Either characters aren't worth enough or there is a problem with the induction process. And I don't think it has anything to do with character worth because people delete at 50 all the time.
And BTW I wasn't really even trying to complain specifically about any wait time to join a cabal. But around the time of the 2nd interview joining Knights stopped feeling "fun" and starting feeling daunting and boring.
There is a thing for playing less. There's actually multiple things. Two of those are guild points, and surges, which allow a guy to rank or train at doubled speed (you complained loudly about one of these). There is also SEEDS, which you can plant and it basically grows gyvels and purples while you are logged out. You can also get exp and relics by just typing the devote command once per real time hour. What else can you possibly want, microtransactions so you can just buy the equipment and pvp with your wallet? Wrong game.
And no, Knights aren't the "newbie cabal". They are the most common targetted cabal BY newbies, but its not strictly FOR newbies. If any cabal is for newbies, its the Justice cabal, just sit in town with your badass guard and everybody is auto-terrified of you. I dont know how you would conclude that a cabal that is at loggerheads with evils (who are the most ruthless players on the game) would be a newbie cabal in any way shape or form. Youre probably feeling this pressured by Knight interviews because youre already under the gun from every level 45-ish evil that just cant wait to melt your ass. That fucks with a guys head subconciously in ways he cant always be aware of.
Bottom line: I dont want to deal with your shitty attitude and I am fully aware that this is a public forum and I actually do want other people to see me fucking with you after you made this delete rant over something that literally EVERYBODY ELSE has done without the bitchout and delete, and you made a wrong assumption that I was not aware of this problem and not already on a fix for it. This is simply not the most important fucking issue we have, and neither is catering to casuals who play 3 hours a month. Just click the link and see the issue list that I gave. Neither of these things are even IN it, nevermind ranked near the top, and despite that I'm moving both of them forward anyway. If its not in the issue list, dont expect ANY action from me as a rule. It is literally a one line command for you to enter it there, you do not have to bitch out delete and type a rant on the forums to get your point across here. [b:10ac309fb1]I am not going to code with a gun to my head because some asshole says hes leaving the game over shit.[/b:10ac309fb1] If you actually gave a fuck about this, you would have used the issue system which I CREATED SO I COULD LISTEN TO YOU. You are, as the saying goes, REAPING what you have SOWN, after flapping your gums without actual knowledge to back that up. The game is actually a step ahead of you on everything you have said
I'll just say, I wasn't probably feeling any pressure. I was just bored of waiting. I thought of just going to 50 but if I'm going to go to 50 uncaballed healer I'm going to see if i can get 0 deaths.
as far as you wanting people to see you "Fucking with me in public." grow up
YOU grow up. I'm setting an example that we will not negotiate with terrorists. YOU are the one who posted a childish rant about this game world. I am its vengeance.
and when did I say this was the most important issue ever or that i'd quit and all the other garbage you're responding to? I'm saying, as a returning player, that shit is annoying af. its my graveyard post after all. if you don't like my opinion, don't fucking read it, ban me from the forums, or just namecall like a little kid.
No, get it straight. There are processes in place that you can use to address your grievance in a civil and adult manner. You ignored those, and instead you pulled the classic hail mary delete, put the gun to the "programmers" head and say this game isnt worth your time on your supposed exit. You know full well this demands attention, and here it fucking is! Did you expect someone to appear and kiss your ass after you wrote that? That piece was obviously antagonistic.
You are actually telling me I should ban you. You are telling me what I should do. This game is a party in my house, and I am its host. I am paying for the music and the food and the beer, so that my guests have a good time. The guests are needed because the other guests need people around to share a good time with. You just took a fatty shit in the middle of my living room in front of onlookers. Of course I am going to care. Wouldnt you? In the past, I may have put up with this kind of behavior, but I definitely wont anymore. Experience has taught me that if a guy talks to me in a disrespectful way, he's definitely going to do that to the other players of the game. Most likely he will OOC rant about how theyre making the game no fun for him after he gets the dog kicked out o f him for being a generally annoying prick. I've seen it, more times than you can even imagine. [u:36ceee1b6e]I know your type. We call them foamers[/u:36ceee1b6e].
Yes and no one wants to go to the party of a prick who keeps telling everybody this is his house and his beer even after people offer to help him pay for the party favors. It is usually just his close friends that have learned to put up with his bullshit that want to come to his next party either. That analogy was more useful than I thought it would be.
Yes we know you code here and do a great job. Yes we know you pay for the server. And that certainly does give you the right to talk as much shit, look as immature, and make this game look as unappealing as possible but flaming your players. But stop trying to clean up your temper tantrum in response to me by accusing me of a laundry list of things I never did or said. I mean I put a gun to your head coding wise? You sound like a self important twat. I said I TRIED TO RETURN. As in I TRIED TO BAKE A CAKE BUT I FORGOT TO BUY THE SUGAR. Does that mean I will never bake a cake again? You're really arguing the Knights not being a newbie cabal just to debate my 0-3 score? I can find quotes of you saying Knights is for newbies. You're so full of shit when you want to win a argument it is pathetic.
You can keep trying to paint me as this total loser newbie who is just crying because things didn't go my way. It doesn't bother me because at the end of the day the imp of AR needing to do all this to make himself feel relevant reflects more on the future of this game than the future of my characters. After all, I read these forums and never ever post, while I've see you flame them regularly.
You just want to look as if you're not overreacting, but you are. I gave my opinion, I didn't insult the game. IT FEELS LIKE A JOB AT TIMES. Are you really so self conscious and self indulgent about your game development skills that if I don't put "Dav can you please think about adding this ___ xoxox <3 <3 <3 you are so awesome for all the hard work you put into the game(tm)" it counts as me flaming the entire game and taking a shit on it in public?
And didn't you say what I pointed out was a problem... the other imms responding here seem to recognize it is a problem, and even if they didn't like my presentation, didn't act like I was the bad guy for pointing out a frustrating flaw in design. Basically you have your panties ruffled because you don't like how I said something but my intention clearly was not to insult you because I'm pretty sure you know dav that if I wanted to flame you I would not be afraid to type your name out in full.
There is no 'flaw' in the design. The other imms are just being nice to you. The /flaw/ is you not being able to roleplay at all. As a fellow foamer, that just annoys me. changing state from being a squire to a knight isn't ground shaking...there's tons of roleplay value there you could have worked with as a squire. you're just playing the game wrong. (also 0-3 as an elf healer? *laughs manically*)
I am enraged because you did not follow the process. You are making me play "Clue" to figure out what the problems are... its like this. For a month, nothing happened. then one day you blew up, "SURPRISE! I JUST DELETED AND QUIT BECAUSE X.". You did not say anything for WEEKS before that. You built up resentment instead, and finally popped your cork, undermining every system that's been designed and implemented to catch you before you fall. If there was any overreaction here, it was THAT.
This game world does not exist to provide you personally with fun. It generates fun, but a lot of the time that is fun that's had at somebody's elses expense. You cannot play this game "only for fun". that is not how it fucking works. That is your fundamental misunderstanding. It is not a single player RPG. You are not the only player in the realms. Fun is a currency which is in limited supply and nobody gets to have all of it. Now that I've spelled it out for you, choose better whether to spend your important time here, and stop wasting mine.
He's pissed because you didn't report the problem. You could have typed "bug it takes too long to get inducted into knights" and the problem could potentially be fixed. Instead you dumped a bug report into your rage delete graveyard post. If you don't give enough of a fuck to type literally 10 words into AR before deleting I don't give a fuck if Davairus chews you out and your eulogy is tl;dr
I have been in your shoes waiting and waiting to get inducted imms know who certain players ate due to a lack of top or similar rp. The game is boring and tedious but that one shaman fight or dkn fight can be one of the most intense experiences in a game. I challenge anyone to name another game that can give the same rush ar can provide. The problem with this game is people don't value their chars because time lost isn't relevant until you are old and you wish you had more. Even if dav made the game have auto induct and cheat codes up the ass you loss out on the other possibilities that this game has to offer good and bad
Let us break this down.
"As someone that tried to return I really want to suggest you try and direct this game towards fun vs work."
As someone who has an asston of fun here, I really want to suggest you try and look at what is happening to your character differently.
"I mean, with a million other games out there I can't comprehend how you could think sitting around at level 40 for a week or more afk training as a squire is a good idea in hopes of making this game more entertaining, exciting, or popular."
I am fairly certain that AFK anything is frowned upon.
"It isn't a job interview yet a lot of this game feels like a job (a hour spent running from clear to purple potions, and back, just to fight for 20 minutes comes to mind, or being an outlaw and losing access to almost every single shop in the game when only 1 justice ever even logs in??? - or having to farm gyvels constantly for one shaman/dk fight, etc.)." FEELS LIKE are the operative words here. Joining a cabal is meant to be an accomplishment. If anyone that asks is automatically inducted then cabals would mean far less.
"maybe I've been spoiled by every other game I've played (even darkfall/2 didn't require this much work) and just lost my edge to play this game." In my opinion, this is highly likely (you sound spoiled) Hell I had interviews with 3 separate knights, a mystic, and a noble and still no induction. It just seemed like everyone wanted to feel authoritative and strict without realizing I'm just playing for fun."
SEEMED (TO YOU)
"This is just for fun something to kill time as I work from home, nothing more an definitely not mean to be a replacement for the real life stresses I need to deal with. Most people don't ind job interviews fun, so why would it be fun to include them in a game?"
Please do not think that I do not understand where you are coming from. "Working" for something that you do not get can produce frustration. However, as with anything a human experiences, perspective is everything. If you feel that your "work" is not paying off, perhaps you need to try to have a bit more fun with your training, or kick up some RP with a stranger, or try more things you find "fun".
"For better or for worse it is nice I guess to see the game moving in some direction rather than none."
Adding a backhanded compliment at the end of your post does not make ranting acceptable. Just some suggestions. Please reroll and don't let the man keep you down. I love foamers!
Also, that last post was split terribly, it should have been much cleaner, apologies. Also, also...OMFG THERE WAS BEER THIS WHOLE TIME AND I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW??? Where are you hiding it Dav? is the fridge to the left or the right of Curisq's turd?
I don't feel like building a time machine to get those last 10 minutes back, so I'll lock this thread as retribution. If there's a problem with cabal application process, that deserves its own thread. I can understand frustration that comes from waiting, but anybody recently returning to the game could spend dozens of hours finding new things we've added.
For better or for worse it is nice I guess to see the game moving in some direction rather than none.
