Part I
Ruvaes was born with a magic toe; his mother, a Darkhaven prostitute, was sure of it. She petitioned every priest and every wizard she could find to help her determine the nature of the magic, but none would reveal what they knew. Instead, they each told her there was nothing magical about the boy's toe. The tenacious prostitute decided to seek the truth in the larger city of Seringale, so she "accompanied" a small band of mercenaries on the dangerous journey. Upon arriving in Seringale, she immediately began seeking out priests and wizards to help her, but every single one of them told her the same lie: the toe was not magical. Now desperate, she found a shady figure in a back alley willing to tell her the truth. The toe, he claimed, was a arcane gift from the heavens and was worth three gold pieces on the black market. Smiling, she offered the infant to the man who swiftly removed the boy's toe with a rusty dagger. Satisfied, she sold the magic toe to a teenager in a caravan passing through and pocketed the three coins, leaving the boy behind in an alley. Ruvaes, of course, remembers none of this; he only knows that his friggin toe hurts.

Description:

The figure before you is short and filthy. Dirt and grime cover nearly every inch of his exposed skin. The few clean areas of his exposed flesh appear to be covered with red splotches or some kind of nasty rash. His brown eyes are slightly unfocused, yet burn with a surprising intensity for one so small. His bushy brown eyebrows are a bit unruly, but seem tame in comparison to the wild, recalcitrant mop atop his head. In contrast to his unkempt appearance, or perhaps in spite of it, the halfling appears unusually well-muscled. In any case, this is most certainly the source of the ubiquitous stench pervading the area.

  1. I forgot how easy it is for people to make the game not fun. It makes me sad seeing my time invested as time wasted trying to enjoy it.

Ouch. It sounds like things were pretty miserable. Could we discuss what we could address here for positive change?

  2. When we engage in a group activity, we give others power over us to some extent, for better or for worse. This was my first character here in a few years, and some recent interactions negatively affected me to the extent that the enjoyment I got from the experience was overshadowed so thoroughly that I doubt I'll do it again for many more years, if at all. There are many great things about playing this game, but it is better for my well-being if I don't give anyone the power to make me feel the way I felt today. I don't know if the game's become more toxic; I suspect it's more likely that my own sensitivity to it has increased since I've made positive changes in other aspects of my life.

It definitely sounds like you got very heavily invested the character. I think that enhances the crushing feeling of getting ganked. Obviously that isn't for everybody, some people are going to seethe for revenge and others take another outlook.

That said, I am just going to leave an observation, you take it or leave it. You played a Warlord, which 1v1 is probably going to win most fights easily in seasoned hands, lets be fair. This post is about power, obviously, and its the complaint about it. I just wonder how much of that is really about their power over you or your lack of advantage. You are actually literally coming over a bit humble-brag, while accusing with "this game is more toxic". I don't buy that shit. I think you are deleting to get even.

I respect you but that is what I think.

      >I think you are deleting to get even.

nah deleting to deny a gangbang is always awesome I don't buy that, it's old school
    3. This has nothing to do with power, it's about people. I removed myself from the situation in a manner that will keep me from returning to it.

I'm assuming this was some sort of equipment run with a group who turned on you? If that's the case, the solution is to roll up a lightwalker and travel with friends who are rp-bound not to turn on you.

Its not true that the community is toxic, and it speaks more to the person saying it being very angry. I personally don't think it is at all appropriate and I think on the other hand, an apology is much needed.

The other players of the game are under no obligation to live up to the high expectations you placed on them. They are just playing here to have fun and dork off, like everybody else. What goes around comes around. I'm sure you've done your share of betrayal. I'm sure some people got very upset, but I don't think they all became the newest forum meltdown person promising to take their ball and go home. We have this every couple months and everybody eventually comes back with their tail between their legs saying they had issues. I am getting sick of it.

it's just what happens when you get killed so hard you stop playing for awhile. Get the fuck over it

Its demoralizing to read and I'm going through shit. I guess what I'm trying to say is everybody can fuck off with pretending this game is supposed to be peaches and cream or that they logged in looking for it.
    8. Everyone is entitled to their own feelings. It's healthy to own them. I was hurt as a result of others' behavior here so it became toxic to me. Nothing you can say will change that. It is what it is.
    9. I'm not trying to criticize the game when I say any of this. As you pointed out earlier, I tend to become invested and immersed when I play a character. I'm simply not in a place where doing that, at least with this type of character, is good for me. I recognized it and took the necessary step to remedy it.

It was a worthy death. Looks like 2 dudes grouped up with him and had him tank Edelia then turned on him while he was fighting the mob, but I'm not sure. The stream didn't catch the whole thing.

I think we might need a #denied tag for characters that delete to deny a gangbang

Well poop, your character was an absolute treat to interact with on all levels.
      [reply to Kedaleam]
    1. Well damnit, now I'll never know which toe it was
      1. I imagined him as right-footed.
      2. It was the big toe on the right foot.
      3. I knew it!

    2. We didn't get to play much together because we are in different time zones but I liked Ruvaes.
Trust is a difficult thing in this game, especially with evils. For your mindset and level of investment you might like good align because you know autmoatically that everyone who is evil will be after you. Either that or if you are neutral just avoid the evils as much as possible.
Roll up a paladin and rouse up a group to deliver an HGOD to those evil bastards that turned on you!
      1. It was a neutral Mystic who I had grouped with several other times, not the evil. Reason given was, "Because I talked to her when she was trying to focus on something." I didn't realize she was the one who initiated combat with me the first time until I checked the logs later, as I was low hp from just tanking Edelia and focusing on trying to flee past to escape. She offered a half-assed apology when I asked her about looting and then initiated again when I was looking for the dark-knight.

If/when I eventually make another character, it will probably be a loner-type evil that everyone will hate so I can automatically assume the worst of everyone I interact with to spare myself a similar experience.

not a neutral mystic. evil, chaotic, and a legion noble.

        countess means. darkhaven nobility.
      4. Wow I just learned more about what happened. I definitely would have trusted her too Ruvaes. Didn’t think mystics were supposed to do shit like that. I thought they stopped being a pk organization years ago but I’ve been absent for a while.
      5. Ah, well I didn't know she was evil or connected to Darkhaven or anything. Kudos to her for keeping that secret if that's what she wanted.

does consider not work anymore or what? Also I thought darkhaven nobility got the "Count/Countess" pretitle in the who list

I'd love to see the logs if you can post them

consider purposefully got nerfed. from my understanding the one who removed it wanted us to ask one another what are alignments are. kind of along the same lines as not having experience shown in group anymore. Forced role play situations. Consider only shows alignment of creatures and npcs not players. As for her countess title... I swear she was countess for a long time. Unless I'm imagining the entire thing, she did just get a new title recently though which may have removed the pretitle

Mystics and Countesses are allowed to be aggressive, they just can’t invade cabals nor be involved in cabal warfare. That said, this kind of action by a Mystic may be frowned upon by the current Immortal leader of Mystics.
      10. Nycticora
        0 , 0 , 0 .
no, that's backwards. They aren't disallowed. We don't have whitelists of things players are allowed to do, we have rules that say what you can't do. This is an extremely important distinction. Saying "mystics and countesses are allowed to be aggressive" is an inaccurate statement

        wtf

I guess you guys don't trust players to think for themselves. No wonder players are always asking me for permission to do shit instead of taking risks backed by roleplaying

this is not the way to run a ROLEPLAYING game

Are you on drugs? None of the imms are trying to stifle role-playing or creativity dude. Frankly all I see here is you complaining about something being broken when it’s not actually broken, and making all the imms look bad.

what about heralds because you had a dkn herald that killed me in elemental canyon, never expected a herald to be aggressive. And you stood behind the lie of I was trying to teach you how to dunk people. No rp no communication
      15. Is this necessary Ozaru?

Ozaru, your comments don't fit the context of the discussion. Ceridwel and Nycticora aren't arguing about acceptable behavior in coteries, they have a difference of opinion on whether there's a need for acceptable behavior to be outlined or if we should only explicitly define the unacceptable behaviors.

This is a classic problem which I have faced numerous times. You get backstabbed by someone who you don't think their align ethos religion time spent with them role play would ever fit.

The basic response has always been tough shit its 1 of 60 deaths. Its rare to see anyone get disciplined by the immortals for this type of behavior because it is allowed. Or not disallowed. In life and in ar people will be dicks for the sake of it. Some people myself included will rage delete because of it.

if you were thinking for yourself and roleplaying you would have known that your character didn't know my character. Maybe you would have thought more carefully about what kind of risk you were taking by stripping buckass naked in front of a random dk with a bunch of rares in your inventory. It was a really similar death to this one though - backstabbed over a case of mistaken alignment.
      20. Ozaru
        0 , 0 , 0 .
No that wasn't the case at all. Heralds had a reputation for being passive and bards. You role this Dkn herald and I don't know of any contribution you made to that cabal other than trash pk. I didn't remove my eq infront of you I was training something at the fire ruler. You summoned your charmie posted him outside of the fire ruler. Then you attacked me, I fled in your charmie I was attacked by that I fled back into you and died. As far as a bunch of rares go I don't remember which ranger this was on but there was a good chance I was a keeper with no rares or if I wasn't a keeper a ranger with probably shitty rares. I am rarely decked out. Its not mistaken alignment since I knew you were online, my assumption was heralds are not aggressive.

    3. Ruvaes, seriously, its not anything personal. I had my IC reasons, however good or bad they may be, I had them. I am sorry it put a sour taste in your mouth.

The Mystic didn't take a swing, just sat there watching. To go off and blame her, when she was defending herself against you preemptively because you declared a vendetta on her is foolish. Another thing, we sat together because safety in numbers.

And he didn't delete after a gangbang, he deleted when we used a terrain feature against him. He was ready for a fight, fled and choose to 'take his life'. That's my side of it and how I saw it.
      1. "The Mystic didn't take a swing, just sat there watching."
I have logs that say you're full of shit. Check your own if you have them, as I don't typically share. I also don't care about your reasons or the terrain as they have nothing to do with why I felt betrayed.
      2. When I chased you around Edelia area? I didn't see her do anything there. It may have been to rapid fleeing and engaging. But if you have proof otherwise, then that would seem to be that.
      3. Nycticora
        0 , 0 , 0 .
you wouldn't necessarily see it if the attacks were parried or dodged
      4. I would think an invoker actually assisting in a fight would include some spells. She was in a party with me, so if she started automatically, that's one thing. But she didn't cast a spell on him there.
      5. Yes she did.
