Description:
A desiccated mind flayer stands here, its wrinkled and rotting tentacles
drooping as leaves might in the baking sun. Its skin is cracked and ashy,
having seen neither sunlight nor moisture. A pair of violet milky eyes
glower at you from underneath the amalgam of flesh and rot left of this
creatures head. Its mouth is a sharp and pointed beak that has cracked and
broken, leaving what is left of its tongue hanging in plain sight. Its
other appendages approximate those of a humanoid, though its hands are
missing a digit and webbed feet protrude from underneath its robe. The
pungent stench of decay can be smelled here, and a slight warbling can be
heard in the distance.
Slossinassk I liked having you in Mystics and you will be missed. You're a valuable part of the community and I hope you will reconsider - the words/actions of one player doesn't represent the whole community, please know that.

Just wanted to mention something: threatening to invade cabals as a coterie member is a serious no-no. If nothing else, invading a cabal will cost you your status as soon as combat with one of the cabal guardians begins. If what Conundo says is true, I wouldn't think highly of such words either.

Basically, the case of "bored Warlords" have been around forever. When all you have to do in game is to fight people and there's noone left to fight it can be frustrating when people decline your challenges.
One should still keep a cool head and realize that pestering and forcing people to do what they want them to do can be quite counter-productive.
There is no need for all the drama.

Just curious, but what was the stink over? From what I gather a Warlord can deathmark/kill people who do not accept their duel, but with Coteries I imagine the Warlord may show mercy depending upon their alignment/ethos.
Also, an Illithid Mystic doesn't really have to play nice now do they? They're mindflayers for crying out loud. I can see the points from both sides but I think it's getting a little out of hand. Just enjoy the game for what it really is.

I've read the conversation for myself and I found it is literally the other way around.
He entered the chat venting his frustration about being deathmarked by a warlord. From speaking to that warlord I now know he provoked that Warlord as well, by going OOC before he was even deathmarked. This was conveniently left out of the conversation. My guess is because that would have made him look unsympathetic. As well the Warlord has good reputation with the cabal Immortal and trying his best to impress his leadership. That warlord is not simply looking to "pad the record" as you put it. A competent level 50 Mystic should be able to put up a decent challenge for a warlord. This isn't a record padding issue. I would say that if you took out the word "mystic" and just wrote "newbie" from your sentence. Further, it wouldn't be wrong to have assumed this player had just carried the same sour attitude into IRC after quitting out on a deathmark two minutes earlier.
He only joined IRC to complain about his game experience, complaining about being "inconvenienced" by a duel which he declined in a manner rudely enough to get deathmarked for it, and he was called immediately on his bullshit by the people in IRC. Following that, and I will say as well, this comes as absolutely no surprise, you gave him the reminder that he has in-game solutions to his problems, Vevier, and that is the reason why he turned very nasty. That was well done on your part to remind him this drama belongs in the game, and not reinforce this behavior. I can see that immediately and obviously. I can also clearly see he did not want to hear it. He did not listen and instead expressed personal beef with the player behind the Warlord, which is where he ought to have lost all sympathy he might've had, just like he lost all self-control. What I see in the log then is ranix is then defending both you AND the warlord with a stronger offense, and he then took it to deleting. It seems that you took issue with the way ranix took the trash out. I can't really see if it is because of the subsequent deletion (I'll say it again - good riddance - this isn't the first time he has flamed out and deleted) or if the harsh words offended you, but I think its worth considering that the guy would definitely had turned on you for trying to fix his problem if ranix had not engaged him before he had completed the moment it would have taken him to finish deciding to do it. Overall, that guys behavior is unhinged, like he is on drugs, or possibly off them. A few months ago, he disclosed a bipolar diagnosis. He will be back.

Ah... Knowing who this particular player is now makes my opinion quite different. That player has a history of flipping out... And worse things besides. Not going to out specific characters, but there was one character which was particularly obvious about certain unusual behavior which happened three or four times throughout the character's lifespan... And other characters have a history of doing weird things when flipping out (and then typically deleting). I suspect some stuff has been known for some time about this player... I have stayed out of the OOC side for a while now, but I did learn a lot about the player base from first pip and his friends, and then Nadrin. I did hear some rumors about this player a while back, but they're just rumors so I won't repeat them. But, I am fairly certain this player got involved in some funny business involving a certain long-lived character... Mind you, I have no more proof than anyone else of my suspicions when I am just another person on the Internet who can't see the other users face to face.

From speaking to that warlord I now know he provoked that Warlord as well, by going OOC before he was even deathmarked. This was conveniently left out of the conversation. My guess is because that would have made him look unsympathetic. As well the Warlord has good reputation with the cabal Immortal and trying his best to impress his leadership. That warlord is not simply looking to "pad the record" as you put it. A competent level 50 Mystic should be able to put up a decent challenge for a warlord. This isn't a record padding issue. I would say that if you took out the word "mystic" and just wrote "newbie" from your sentence. Further, it wouldn't be wrong to have assumed this player had just carried the same sour attitude into IRC after quitting out on a deathmark two minutes earlier.
He only joined IRC to complain about his game experience, complaining about being "inconvenienced" by a duel which he declined in a manner rudely enough to get deathmarked for it, and he was called immediately on his bullshit by the people in IRC. Following that, and I will say as well, this comes as absolutely no surprise, you gave him the reminder that he has in-game solutions to his problems, Vevier, and that is the reason why he turned very nasty. That was well done on your part to remind him this drama belongs in the game, and not reinforce this behavior. I can see that immediately and obviously. I can also clearly see he did not want to hear it. He did not listen and instead expressed personal beef with the player behind the Warlord, which is where he ought to have lost all sympathy he might've had, just like he lost all self-control. What I see in the log then is ranix is then defending both you AND the warlord with a stronger offense, and he then took it to deleting. It seems that you took issue with the way ranix took the trash out. I can't really see if it is because of the subsequent deletion (I'll say it again - good riddance - this isn't the first time he has flamed out and deleted) or if the harsh words offended you, but I think its worth considering that the guy would definitely had turned on you for trying to fix his problem if ranix had not engaged him before he had completed the moment it would have taken him to finish deciding to do it. Overall, that guys behavior is unhinged, like he is on drugs, or possibly off them. A few months ago, he disclosed a bipolar diagnosis. He will be back.

15 years ago the player I had beef with passed away in a car accident, like Conundo very nearly did. I'll never get the chance to play with him again.
