Somewhere deep in The Ford, on the bank of a winding stream, sits a giant
man. So completely motionless as to be nearly imperceptible. The
vegetation given life by the stream grows easily around the figure,
encompassing him in parts and simply shading him in others. The mud of the
bank runs smoothly and seamlessly under and into his folded legs making it
difficult to recognize them as such; scattered river rocks lying nearby only
heighten the illusion. Two small rodents run across the massive form of the
man playing tag until they skitter away frightened as a bird of prey alights
on the stony head. The babbling of the brook is ever so slightly louder in
this area than further up or down stream. Listening closely it is possible
for a trained ear to note two different rhythms and tones, as if two rivers
run here. The second of course emanates from the giant man; breathing
perhaps? Truly the only sign that he lives and is not some ancient statue.
THOOM! Suddenly the giant man's eyes snap open. The booming noise of
a war drum echoes inside his head. Motionless except for his eyes he looks
around startled. THOOM! Again the drum echoes as if the pulse of a mighty
heart. The bank of the river however, seems completely undisturbed. As the
booming of the drum continues the giant man begins to feel an itch. Absently
he lifts a giant mud caked hand to scratch his arm. Startled, the bird caws
and flies away. A deer nearby bolts. Insects squirm and wriggle in the newly
exposed depression. And the mand stands. Confused by the voracious
pounding of his own heart, and engrossed by the inexplicable itch he feels
but cannot scratch, he looks northward. Drawn by his own nature as a giant,
perhaps unknowingly at first, he leaves the bend in the river that had
accepted him and walks on to fulfill the yearning of his warrior's heart. Mud
and moss sloughing off in his wake.
Description:
A raucous grinding, akin to iron scraping stone, reverberates across the
room as the behemoth figure of a man absently scratches his arm. Dark grey
skin the color of river rocks, appearing almost as if it were wet, outlines
the muscular figure. The clumsily large right hand scratching the
tree-branch-thick left forearm is calloused and craggy, despite the knuckles
and nails being caked in damp mud. Under the hand, the forearm is marred by
what appears to be a wound of some sort; a shallow depression, two giant
fingers thick, where the skin is white and dusty. It is not apparent if it
is the cause or the creation of the persistent scratching. Following the
chiseled arms up to broad shoulders and a thick sinewy neck rests an
uncannily round head. Smooth and glistening his scalp is devoid of hair;
however, hanging from his broad jaw is a thick and long beard. Dark green
and spongy it resembles a curtain of moss. Peering out from under a stony
brow are two large round eyes. The entirety of the orbs bear the same
shifting color, fading and changing from light grey to bright blue; they
look like the free flowing waters of a mountain stream.

Thoom, you were badass. I had fun adventuring with you as well as getting my ass handed to me by you. Cant fault you for deleting because I did the same thing when I died. I'll just say im looking forward to your next one.
I didn't see this as a rage delete. Kind of unfortunate that some anonymous ass can tag it that way just because he wants to. I have logged in a couple times since I got killed, like 2 weeks ago. I even regeared. I also lost tenor more than once. Not a big deal. But oh well, I'm not gonna let some crotchety old geezer get under my skin and tarnish this character’s graveyard. So, moving on..
Thoom was a lot of fun at times, and not so much at other times. I think it really boils down to my relationship with the Warlord cabal. I simultaneously love it and hate it. But I am grateful to Lorne for giving me the mort leader position. I tried to have an impact but it was tough for me, I’m sure others have their ideas of how to have done better, but I did enjoy the opportunity.
One thing I thought was particularly cool was Dav and Lorne kind of opening up the tournament creation and giving me the reigns. I know it is customary for new mort leaders to send out a note to ask for new applicants. As Thoom I got to create an entire tournament to do it instead! That was awesome, so thank you for facilitating and allowing me to do that. I wasn’t really able to follow up with more tournaments because I struggled to create enough interest to have them function ideally, and because of the nature of how I play AR (it’s an almost exclusively ‘free time’ thing for me and so logging in at designated times is tough for me).
I really liked the name and background for this character, and it kind of made Thoom special to me because of that. My goal was for Thoom to be the quintessential neutral Warlord. He didn’t really care about much except ‘honor and glory’ and fighting duels. And he just kind of ‘existed’ rather than being born. Thanks to everyone who dueled me! There were a lot of fun fights. I do want to ask though, who was the warrior that killed me? I’m sorry but I honestly cannot remember dying to a warrior. Props to you, whoever you are. I also had to laugh when I saw how many deaths I had, as it was way more than I expected, but I guess I had 6 mobs deaths in there somewhere lmao.
Stone giant warriors are definitely a powerful combo, fighting duels in the arena certainly helps too. Even if the Ford kind of neutralizes it slightly. I’m glad the arena has various location options now, that is a very cool feature. I think the biggest thing I learned from dueling as a warrior and Warlord was you have to be fast. Being able to predict your opponent’s actions helps too. A fair amount of my losses were to paladins but there are many others in there too. Big respect to everyone who beat me, not because I think I’m any good, but because I definitely always gave it my all. Too many great fights where I lost to name them all, but I think my favorite will always be Darvaz doing unspeakables to me. Almost died irl when that happened. Lmao.
Had some fun interacting with Scholars, mostly Ilromie, so thanks for helping me inch along my somewhat boring RP. Also shoutout to Kaeno for being a great right hand man and a solid cabal mate.
Thanks for adding Warlord records to the graveyards too. Love it!
I promise I don’t have any intention of making the ‘delete at 1 year mark’ a thing, it just kind of worked out that way, because it’s time to move on to something new and put this generation of characters to rest.
Also, I never did master berserk and warcry (both stuck at 97%) such a pain in the ass to train those skills lol.

Another solid character, Ham. I interacted with Thoom across many characters, and I was always impressed by your solid RP. His quiet stoic nature spoke volumes, and I thought you instilled that sense honorable pursuit of glory in the Warlords.
Since I interacted with you across many characters for so long, the thing that impressed me the most was how much you improved. You were a solid warrior from the start, but IMO your speed, timing, and anticipation became downright exceptional towards the end there.
As I said on Kaeno's GY, it was an honor to be your Blademaster. I look forward to seeing how you develop the next cabal you invest in.
The level 25 tourney was fun too. Dont forget that one. And your duel with dogran was one of the best fights I have ever watched

Yeah the Midway Melee! That's the one I was referencing. It was fun to be able to create that.
And I still think about that fight. At the end, when he dropped sanc, I fled because I didn't have tenacity (got attacked out of sleep). But what would have happened had I bashed instead? No sanc on him means I win, even without tenacity? Maybe?
Hahaha, it was definitely a good fight.
Wow, comes back after a 10 year hiatus -> instantly cranks out two awesome, impactful characters. Well done ham!
I really liked Thoom as a friend and as an enemy (diff chars obv). I definitely got the “don’t care about your petty squabbles or scheming” vibe from him, which is what you were going for.
I hope you had fun with him and achieved your goals. I simply can’t wait to see your next!
What a great looking gravestone! Well played, Thoom. I loved the background and enjoyed being your friend.
I think you're underestimating the value of subtle roleplay. Not every character needs to have an in-your-face personality, but Thoom was always reliable and honorable. To me, it felt like he did a lot of listening and less talking.
You've got a great looking gravestone here and you deserve it. Happy Deathday!
Thoom was okay. I felt like the character only wanted evey advantage he could get or he wouldn't play. Example he stopped showing up when rithgjar openly made it known he was gonna kill you and take tenor.

I can agree that I tried to get every advantage I could; that's called not being dumb. But I didn't avoid you. I had a staff of storms in my inventory for ages waiting to fight you lol. We just weren't ever playing at the same time. Like I said, I don't really have a regular time I play AR, so I'm on and off here and there, sometimes I play a bunch and sometimes I go days without playing. Just depends on real life and stuff. And I swap between characters a bit too. At least throughout the last year. I think I wouldn't have managed to keep these characters alive for such a long time if I was only playing one at a time. Sometimes you need a break, ya know? Or at least I do.
Impactful character, leading Warlords with resilience and a steady hand. Some say you played conservatively, but I see you used all your advantages in battle as you should being a master of war. Your fighting prowess clearly grew from a recruit and was honed to perfection as you rose to Warmaster.
I cannot remember a better stone giant warrior in recent years, surely the best one that has been in Warlords since I've taken the reigns. You'll surely be missed.
The bronze cup has been retroactively applied to a bunch of hoe "nominee" so we can get them on the race/class pages as noteable characters. It has nothing to do with the user account, it is just on the character that got nominated.
If the player passes whatever process is to be included (not sure what that is anymore, but everybody says longevity on every HoE post) then the user account gets skull badge. Nothing changed there. It is pretty hard to get through that screening so I wanted to make sure we got some recognition either way because that's a big deal.
