Wukan was an only child, born into a band of nomadic gypsies. They
survived as a group by roaming the caverns of the underdark in small
numbers. Life was extremely difficult as they could never stay in one spot
for too long or carry too many things that it made hasty travel a burden.
The threat of death was always waiting for them in the next cavern or within
the next shadow. At a young age Wukan began to learn skills from his gypsy
family as they travelled. Always alert to their surroundings and ever
cautious with their movements it was easy for Wukan to emulate and practice
these traits of their lifestyle. With a group so small in numbers and
including family units, the gypsies were not able to survive in the wild
lands of the underdark with combat and confrontation. They relied on their
cunning and planned tactics that favored their small numbers and the element
of surprise. With carefully rehearsed ploys and multiple strategies of
escape, the gypsies were able to adapt to their nomadic existence and take
advantage of the situations when they came upon others.
By the time Wukan was an adult he became an integral part of the groups
survival. Scouting ahead of the travelling party and standing guard during
time of rest were his main responsibilities. Fate would have it that his
band of nomadic gypsies met an untimely end on his watch. During one of his
patrols on guard, Wukan was ambushed by another gypsy raiding party. They
overcame him at a secluded part in his route and left him bound to a rock
outcropping for later. The gypsy raiding party quickly descended on his
band, who were unaware of the danger. Unprepared and unguarded they were
all slaughtered in a matter of moments. Barely a cry for help or a scream
of surprise was heard from the encounter, so swift and precise was the
attack. During the assault Wukan was able to free himself from the bounds
they put on him and escape with his life. Running as fast as he could,
Wukan left that cavern and band of gypsies behind - striking out a life on
his own, alone.
Description:
Crouching amongst the shadows you catch the glimpse of a short, cowled
figure. It wears a simple cloak which is dark in colour and expertly hides
it's face and silhouette from the surrounding light. The outline of an
ashen coloured face with a thick black beard is revealed when the light
shines on it slightly. Dilated red pupils glow slightly from underneath its
hood as shadows land upon its face again after the light dissipates.
