Zalnathkar was the star pupil in his monastery. Orphaned and left at the
temple gates he was adopted by the grand-master of the temple. At the age
of 6 he had mastered all of the skills the trainers had knowledge of.
Ravenous for more enlightenment, Zalnathkar broke into the forbidden
scrolls. Stealing away with them in the night, he began pouring over them
with a gluttonous zeal.
A few days passed and he was pretty sure he was ready to try the new
immobilizing technique he had been studying. He decided this day he would
impress his master by using the technique in sparring. They began going
through the normal katas and once he bored of them he began his new
technique. As soon as Zalnathkar began the technique his master began
running to stop him.
A look of horror manifested on his masters face as he realized he was too
late. As Zalnathkar finished the technique flawlessly his sparring partner
immediately stopped moving, and the young monk beamed at his master awaiting
his approval. He was met only with an anguished look of terror from his
father. Confused, Zalnathkar looked back at his partner and saw tears of
blood running down the initiates face. Small sputtering coughs emanated
from his partner, and blood began trickling out of the corners of his mouth
in a froth.
"He has broken our vows and used forbidden arts. He has killed one of our
own, the worst of all crimes. Everyone we must excise this heresy from our
order!" As these words were shouted by his father, his peers began to turn
on him. Zalnathkar easily parried away his fellow students, breaking a
wrist, ankle, or leg to hobble their attempts at his life. When the
teachers began to come for him, his patience was at an end. He began
expunging them with his newly learned technique.
Looking at the carnage wrought from his star pupil, the master stepped
forward. Zalnathkar easily fought back his masters paltry attempts to stop
the novice. The student had surpassed the master, and in his fury he
paralysed the grand-master monk by breaking his neck. By this point
Zalnathkar was in a rage. "Why hide knowledge like this in scrolls never to
be taught? Your way is wrong master. Knowledge is power and power is not
med to be hidden, it's meant to be wielded. I will leave here and search
out the knowledge that your little temple fears so much. I will search this
world far and wide to learn its secrets and teach any who desire that
knowledge." He turned from the monastery never to look back again. He
wanders these realms in search of all knowledge, eager to learn everything
he can. Nothing would be taboo to him ever again.
