Lets talk about how to make this work.

What kinda things do want to be able store in vaults?

Examples:
- bank gold, relics and medals
- potions and scrolls
- spare armor / weapons (perhaps you could have a "suit of armor")
- a limited amount of rare items
- decor

Do we want a vault to be a special room, requiring key access? A lockbox with multiple compartments? Do we need to come up with some sort of bullshit way to create portals to your lockbox and "retrieve" an item from it?

It should be a safe that someone can pick up and carry around if they have the strength. So if you are poor - put rocks in it so no one can walk away with it.

I was thinking you could BUY the vault, and it wouldn’t have to be necessarily a separate room, but a “door” object that could have either a specific level of traps to disarm (thief/rogue skills), magical protection (dispels), or general strength of the door itself (bash/warrior/brute strength) or you could hire “vault breakers” to assist/lower the level of difficulty, etc.

Once the vault is disarmed/smashed open/etc. it loses either a portion of the contents, or the entire thing, depending on public sentiment. But the risk/reward balance would need to be favorable for people to attempt to break them.

What would be interesting is for someone to pay a shit ton for a high-end vault, and leave nothing but an opal ring inside, so someone else comes by and spends a bunch of time and resources to break in, only to get the fail horn and cream pie in the face.

I think when we raid peoples vaults, we'll expect to find a cache full of weapons. I would literally burn peoples entire lairs to the ground over an enchanted 5/5 fiery dagger. But I can't care about running off with someone elses actual chest or container. That has no value. We could make it weigh 500 lbs for some willing to strip naked just to drag away an empty container. I guess. Wouldnt you rather smash it with an axe and use the mats to build your own, cooler looking, larger version?

All vaults will be able to be broken into, right? With varying degrees of toughness to break in?

Ultimately I think you'd have to either buy materials or contract it to some "gnomish inventors" or vault craftsmen or something. More $$$ for higher quality, etc. and you can install boobytraps, poison, whatever.

I just don't want to end up with a solution where Xel Morak is locked away in someone's vault inside their lair and no one but the lair owner can get to it.

I feel like this is just encouraging hoarding.

Gold is one thing, but items I don't think should be able to just be locked away where no one can get them.

It would be cool to have the Keeper's vault be just like the Justice's vault. I don't see why they're different in the first place. Instead of having to kill the keeper of the artifacts a million times to get what you want, you could make him crazy tough like the vault guardian and have them be marked a threat for killing him just like the Vault guardian marks people wanted.

I think we should do a breakable wall (i.e. like the lair entrance) and you dont get a vault guardian...you are the vault guardian
so people just take your sword of seasons when you are logged out
