STORM GIANT

Storm giants make up about a third of all giants in Serin. During the Great
War, giants were the hired muscle that both sides of the fighting used to
form their main offense, their power easily affected the outcome of the war.
After the war ended, the gods did with the giants as they saw fit. For
their efforts to bring an end to the fighting, braving the fierce spells
of the renegades, Denadlyr blessed them with a powerful resistance to the
element of lightning. The first storm giants travelled far west, finding
new homes as far from the site of it as they could find. Over time, this
race built villages by the water and furthered its pacifistic nature.

Most storm giants are very aloof and self-absorbed, always thinking about
how another person's actions can lead to fighting. Storms are extremely
peaceful to the point where they will avoid associating themselves with
those that fight completely if it is at all possible. Typically a storm
giant is not very adventurous. Yet this passive giant will fight with
furious anger if his home or friends are harmed, which is how they came
to be dubbed 'storm' giant by humans. Very few storm giants leave the
peaceful villages to become adventurers in their own right.

Of all the races, storm giants get along best with the elves, and are
often subject of their songs. The peace loving giants also are known
to enjoy the company of gnomes, despite their boisterous nature, for
a gnome is not at all lacking in self-confidence, a fault that many
storm giants share. Their years of living in culture have given them
greater intelligence than other giants, though their lifespans are
shortened by living an easy life that was not meant for a giant.

I feel the life within me beginning to dim. I have led a long and fruitful
life, filled with great emotions and discoveries. And there is yet so much
of Serin I do not know... Too much for a simple giant's lifetime. As the
Gods write, my kind were not born to live such long and peaceful lives.

You have brought so much happiness into my little quiet pond, and allowed me

Dear Ilromie,

You have ever been my dearest and oldest friend. I still remember being but
a child and trailing around behind you and Darvaz as you explored. Even
then, witnessing the acts of criminals and your struggles with the Justices.
The pursuit of the truth of Vhrael, which perhaps we shall never know, and
our explorations of the most dangerous parts of Serin are memories I shall
certainly never forget.

As a child I often wondered what it would be like to be rich. I have come
to learn that wealth comes in the form of knowledge, friendships, kindness,
and love. Material wealth pales in comparison with the camaraderie I have
found in the Consortium, the enriching conversations and adventures I have
had because of the title of Scholar, all because once upon a time the
Abecedarian, Ethaac, took a chance on a silly village girl. I cannot thank
him enough for that chance, and you for your guidance and support throughout
these many years. Through our trials and tribulations I have learned that
differences in view may initially push us apart, but analyzing these
differences brings greater understanding of each other, and respect, and
ultimately builds stronger bonds among us all.

The light grows dim within me now. I can feel it flickering where it once
burned. Not because the darkness encroaches, but simply because my giant's
body is not meant to live so long, and so peacefully. There will come a day
soon when the breath will not return to my body. I hope, fervently, that I
shall be able to help you to finish uncovering our latest mystery before
that day comes. But if I cannot, I will rest easy knowing I have entrusted
you with the knowledge, for your investigative prowess is the greatest in

Large even for a dragon, it is many stories tall. Blinded by its shining
hide, you place your arms in front of your eyes. Armed with a set of
particularly ferocious teeth, its talons and eyes gleam dangerously
as it snakes in for the kill.

A Secret Garden
| A small, lush paradise of vegetation surrounds you suddenly
| as you exit the back door of the lodge. Your eyes are first
| drawn to a blue marble sculpture of a lyre, standing as tall
| as the doorframe, which seems to glow softly in the light.
@ | The sculpture is surrounded on all sides by strange, unfamiliar
| | plants with leaves formed like whorls and swirls that unfurl
*-* | in fractal patterns up towards the sky. Scattered among the
| plants are several brightly colored mushrooms of a variety
| never before seen in Serin. Small, strange, winged creatures
---------+ flit here and there, flickering into and out of existence
as if dipping into and out of a bowl of water - only the water is this earthly
plane. Toward the northeast corner of the garden, behind the privacy of a wall
of ferns, is a small pool bordered with a neat row of translucent agate stones.
The entire garden is walled in by a row of protective hedges which tremble as
if sentient as you approach. The sky opens up in an endless expanse above, stretching
far north across the windswept meadows. The gleaming walls, buildings and monuments
of the city of Valour can be seen to the northeast and beyond it, a haze of
curious white mist.

A Tranquil Respite
| This bedroom is the complete opposite of the havoc-filled
| sitting-room downstairs. Though the room is quite spacious,
| it is sparsely furnished with a single, modest bed and a small
| fur rug, both a simple white. Large windows on the north and
*-@ | east walls let in a good amount of natural light, while a
| set of breezy linen curtains ensures privacy. A small, battered-looking
| writing desk sits against the north window where its occupant
| can peer out over the rustling sea of grasses and peep into
| the garden below. The walls are painted a soft neutral grey
---------+ color, the color of clouds just after a storm. The sensation
of calm and tranquility persists here. A spot of warm color is lent by the
cinnabar-speckled flower pot that rests in the northeast corner.

| This bedroom is simply but elegantly adorned, with harmonic
| earthen tones on walls and trim, and cinnabar curtains framing
| the windows to the north and west. Against the western wall
| a beautiful desk sits facing the window, furnished with
@-* | a stack of neat, blank parchments and a quill made from
| a golden eagle feather. A large bearskin rug covers the
| center of the floor, providing warmth and comfort. A sweeping
| view of the familiar, colossal silhouette of Storm Hill
| is framed by the western window, along with the twisting
---------+ paths below. Beyond, the emerald isle of Asdanter can be
seen surrounded by a cerulean ocean. Far to the northwest, a hazy shimmer marks
the edges of Demea Bay. A wide expansive meadow stretches north of the house.
The borders of it are hidden by a curious white mist, as if a cloud sits upon
the horizon.

A short, solid woman stands fiercely before you. Riotous golden locks flow
down to her waist, somewhat tamed into four thick braids by intricately carved
metal bands. Her expressive blue eyes peer out from a youthful face with stern
features, her narrow eyebrows curved into a serious expression above long lashes
and rosy cheeks. A small nose and full lips complement her eyes, preventing her
from being entirely relegated to the ranks of the homely. Her thick frame does
have distinctly feminine curves of breast, hip, and thigh, though these are
obscured by the robes enveloping her. The robes are intricately embroidered with
what appear to be dwarven runes, and indicate her station as priestess.

She is an experienced explorer.
Lumubella is in excellent condition.

You say 'You are weary.'
Lumubella shuffles her feet awkwardly.
Lumubella says 'I'm afraid.'
Serra takes your hands in hers.

My dear friend,

After reading your letter and adventuring today, I have had some time to
reflect on what you wrote and your upcoming journey to Kedaleam's final
rest. The very thought fills my heart with suffocating sorrow, as I have
counted you as my dear friend for more years than any other person. In
fact, I was quite shy on allies when we first met and the letters we
exchanged brought joy to a life that was otherwise full of blood and magic.
How little I suspected then that such friendship would bloom.

We met as children, inquisitive and curious
Full of questions and lacking experience.
Then together we grew, Dilettante to Doyenne
Each day finding new mysteries to take joy in.

We became as trees in the forest, reaching for the sun
Our once separate roots have burrowed together as one.
I know not who I would be without you by my side
I know not who I shall be once you have . died..

Across the realms we explored, challenges defeated
How many times did we emerge with death barely cheated?
The greatest enemies could stand not against us,
But tragedy waits at home for a body worn and defenseless.

It is too much to hope that you would return as before,
This journey like any other, to a distant shore?
For whom else could I trust to report what they see
and share what lies of life's last mystery?
