>>> Valindra and Serra meet Dogran, the Sinister Minister.

Upon an Open Platform

[Exits: south west]
A filthy crown is on a sandstone altar.
A weatherbeaten sandstone altar stands here.
(Translucent) (White Aura) Valindra the Sage of Arcane Power, Lore Keeper of Myth is here.

Valindra says 'We are making quite a shrine.'

Dogran steps out of a dark Vortex.

You say 'Ah, greetings, sir.'
You bow deeply.

[KEEPER] The Balance prevails within the four kingdoms.
There are 5 characters on; the most on this past month was 17.

Dogran grins evilly.

Valindra smiles, her chins wobbling.
Valindra says 'I knew you would come!'

Dogran pinches Valindra's bottom and grins.

Valindra bats her tiny, watery eyes at Dogran.

Dogran sits down and rests.

You say 'Are you here to tell us a story?'

Dogran says 'I told you I would make time for you, and now I have.'

You beam delightedly!
You rest.
Serra takes out a parchment and quill.

Dogran says 'Why don't we start with what you remember.'

Valindra circles the pair before curling up like a cat between them.
Valindra sits down and rests.

You ponder the question.
You say 'From the very beginning?'

Dogran says 'From the first time we spoke about it.'
Dogran agrees absolutely.

You say 'You told me of your youth, and how you fought your way to the top in your village before striking out on your own.'
You say 'Then of walking alone for some time, before dreams began to descend upon you.'

Dogran nods.

Valindra's face grows slack and meditative as she listens.

You say 'Dreams of a dark force, greater than that of the gods, that felt like being consumed by a flame.'
You say 'You then pledged yourself to Thorgoth, and joined the Legion Army.'

Dogran nods.
Dogran agrees absolutely.

You say 'There was another meeting, where you said I was somehow involved in something. But you never said what it was.'

Dogran says 'After the last time we spoke when I was mortal things began to change.'

You say 'Ah, indeed...'

Dogran says 'As I began to kill more frequently, so too came the dreams.'
Dogran says 'They grew stronger, more pronounced. '
Dogran says 'With each life taken I learned something new.'
Dogran says 'The darkness slowly began to reveal itself. '
Dogran says 'The chance you had... That was lost with your absence. '

Valindra's eyes grow milky white, the pupils fading as she continues to listen.

You raise an eyebrow at the notion.

Dogran says 'When you were lost, so too was that connection.'

You say 'Chance... for what?'

Dogran grins evilly.
Dogran says 'That part... I'll never tell.'
Dogran snickers softly.

You say 'Hmm.'

Valindra looks at Dogran.

You say 'What did the darkness reveal?'

Valindra breathes so heavily, she is almost panting.

Dogran says 'The dreams intensified, the darkness began to feel less agonizing, more familiar. '
Dogran says 'Then I began to hunt more powerful foes.'
Dogran says 'The dreams were the strongest after I slew Rhoa, Thoom, and Finally Solmundi.'
Dogran says 'When I drank from the shrine I made of Solmundi...'
Dogran says 'I was set adrift.'
Dogran says 'The darkness consumed me for a time.'

You tell your group 'Solmundi... as a sacrifice of blood.'

Dogran says 'With it came new understanding, but I didn't accept what I learned right away.'

You say 'Was that when you ascended, sir?'

Dogran says 'I struggled with my fate for a short while, but eventually I admitted it to myself. '
Dogran agrees absolutely.
Dogran says 'It was.'
Dogran says 'When I identified what the darkness was, that is when I became the true Dark Lord.'
Dogran grins evilly.

You say 'What... was it?'

Dogran says 'You see Serra, the darkness... '
Dogran says 'It was me.'
Dogran says 'All along.'
Dogran says 'It was me.'

His pasty pale-gray bald head seems dull and lifeless. Deep set eyes
over a wide forehead no eyebrows visible giving him an almost skeletal look.
A hooked nose, which has clearly been broken many times followed by only
slightly grayer thin lips. Stylized twisted runes are etched in his visible
skin covering his arms in their entirety, and the longer you look at them
the more unsettled you become. Finally, this figure a little thinner than
most of his brethren, accented only by the fact that his arms seem overly
long for his frame, while his legs are short and stubby.
Dogran is in excellent condition.

Dogran is using:
<used as light> (Unidentified) (Magical) (Glowing) the Doom-Weaver of Legion
<worn on finger> (Glowing) (Humming) a dragonwing iron-black band of unerring flight

<worn as shroud> (Magical) the soul of Sintku
<floating nearby> (Glowing) a grotesque gargoyle made of onyx
<tattooed> an infernal dire wolf encased in a sphere of hellfire

Brrrrrrrrr.

Valindra thrusts a stubby emerald finger toward Dogran.

Dogran peers intently at Valindra.

Valindra says 'But you now accept your poewr.'

Dogran agrees absolutely.
Dogran says 'Oh I most certainly do.'
Dogran grins evilly.
Dogran says 'And there is more power to be had still.'
Dogran rubs his hands together in greedy anticipation.

Valindra gets a wisp essence from a satchel embroidered with the crest of Heralds.
Valindra extends the essence toward Dogran, her eyes averted.
Valindra says to Dogran 'Are you hungry, minister?'

Dogran says 'You give me a gift?'
Dogran holds out his hand.

Valindra says 'The minister deserves a tribute, yes.'
Valindra strains to reach Dogran's hand, and she tucks the essence in with her own before flinching away.
Valindra gives a wisp essence to Dogran.

Dogran eats a wisp essence.
Dogran agrees absolutely.

Brrrrrrrrr.

Valindra says to Dogran 'I have heard it tastes like a little big of magic, a little big of sugar, and a lot of power.'

Dogran says 'This power... It is nothing compared to what I have sampled. '

Valindra clears her throat.

Dogran says 'But your gift, I accept.'
Dogran grins evilly.
Dogran says 'Serra.'

Valindra breathes heavily, and a bead of sweat dots her brow.

You say 'Was the Solmundi you slew still mortal?'

Dogran says 'You seek the knowledge of Acadia.'
Dogran nods at you in agreement.
Dogran says 'He was.'

You say 'Did you drive him to seeking the Lord of Blood?'

Dogran shakes his head.
Dogran says 'I had naught to do with his journey.'
Dogran says 'He was just a stepping stone on mine.'

You say 'Ah, indeed.'

Dogran says 'His journey was one born of frustration.'

You nod.

Valindra tells the group 'Another portal open in the grove.'

You tell your group 'They are incessant.'
You say 'And yes, I seek knowledge of Acadia.'

Dogran says 'I like you Serra, so I will give you some advice.'
Dogran says 'Be careful that what you seek doesn't swallow you whole. '

You say 'I will be careful.'

Valindra tries to clamber into Serra's lap but collapses dramatically at Dogran's words.

Serra pats Valindra's shoulder gently.

Valindra holds a stubby emerald hand to her forehead.

You say 'Have you heard...'

Valindra gets a wisp essence from a satchel embroidered with the crest of Heralds.

You say 'Of the demons that gather there?'

Dogran agrees absolutely.
Dogran says 'I employ one of them.'
Dogran grins evilly.

Valindra capers down from the giant and toward Dogran. She extends another essence.
Valindra gives a wisp essence to Dogran.

Dogran eats a wisp essence.
Dogran agrees absolutely.

You say 'Do you welcome them to Serin?'

Valindra blinks as a toad might.

Dogran says 'New ones?'
Dogran shakes his head.
Dogran says 'No.'
Dogran says 'Aelaldric approached me when I was still mortal.'
Dogran says 'He was very bold. '

Valindra says 'The demon or the elf?'

Dogran says 'In spite of his boldness he knew his place.'
Dogran says 'The demon.'

Valindra gets a news pamphlet from a satchel embroidered with the crest of Heralds.
Valindra looks at a news pamphlet.
Valindra recites 'Xrxz'thyx.'

Dogran says 'Yes.'

Valindra puts a news pamphlet in a satchel embroidered with the crest of Heralds.
Valindra shivers, her color paling some.
Valindra says to Dogran 'More are coming, Minister.'

Dogran grins evilly.
Dogran says 'Good.'
Dogran says 'What they bring... it brings delight to my senses.'

You tell your group 'It is as I thought.'

Dogran says 'Serra.'

You say 'Hmm?'

Dogran says 'If you wish to write down what I have told you that is fine.'

You nod.

Dogran says 'I will tell no others my story.'

You say 'Indeed, sir.'
You say 'Thank you for sharing it with me.'

>>> Serra takes a young adventurer, Gidgett, exploring and invites him to her home for a small gift.

Terra Firma

@-* | a stack of neat, blank parchments and a quill made from

seen surrounded by a cerulean ocean. Far to the northwest, a hazy shimmer marks
the edges of Demea Bay. A wide expansive meadow stretches north of the house.
The borders of it are hidden by a curious white mist, as if a cloud sits upon
the horizon.

[Exits: east]
A small painting depicts a woman with an owl on each shoulder.
A large flower pot is here.
A luxurious bearskin rug covers the floor.
A white wooden chair sits next to the bearskin rug.
(Magical) A heart shaped medallion is on a stone bed laden with furs.
A stuffed, blue and gray dolphin is on a stone bed laden with furs.
A stone bed laden with furs rests against the south wall.
A ruby teardrop is on a desk carved of blue marble.
A blossoming red tulip is on a desk carved of blue marble.
A desk is here carved of blue marble, reminiscent of the sea.
An acacia wood cabinet rests in the northeast corner.

You open an acacia wood cabinet.
You say 'The pile of things in there is the Perseverance set.'

Gidgett boggles at the concept.

You say 'You can try it out and see if you like the effects.'

Gidgett gets a heart shaped medallion from a stone bed laden with furs.
Gidgett utters the words, 'uoculoihuyl'.

You say 'If you take one of the pieces and lore it, you will see.'
You say 'No no, not that, in the cabinet.'

Gidgett puts a heart shaped medallion on a stone bed laden with furs.
Gidgett nods.

You chuckle politely.
You say 'I was doing some research.'
You say 'If you like it, we can find some things to engrave on top of it to make it suit you better.'
You say 'Take your time.'
You smile happily.

---

When my young visitor touched your medallion my heart nearly jumped out
of my chest. It is a terrible thing to be left behind here, every object a
painful, cherished memory, this room which once filled my heart to bursting
now an empty shrine. Without you, these things are all meaningless. And
yet I cannot bear to throw them away.

Was this how you felt when I departed?

My love, I cannot help yearning to reach you. Somehow I feel as though you
are still there... Somewhere... On the other side of the portals. Beyond
the demons, I hope. Together with Thoom, Alkas, Rhoa... If you are under
threat there, at least I feel comforted that together you form a brave and
formidable company, perhaps the greatest in a long time.

I cannot come to find you there now, no matter how much I might wish it, for
the demons await an opening to pour into Serin and destroy all we have ever
loved. But perhaps, once the threat has subsided, I can follow you into the
sky.

>>> Suddenly inspired, Serra proposes sending messages to old allies in Acadia.

From: <SCHOLAR> Serra
To: Valindra Ilromie
Subject: Allies across the veil
Content:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
My dear friends,

I seek to send a message to Acadia. Is there a way to transmit such a thing
without alerting the demons? Perhaps Hibbadibbity might disguise herself as
the wisps that dance through the transient portals here?

Warmly,
Serra

<HERALD> Odile the Crier: 'The winds welcome your return, Valindra the Sage of Arcane Power, Lore Keeper of Myth.'

<SCHOLAR> (Doyenne) Serra: 'Greetings, dear fortune-teller!'

<HERALD> (Lore Keeper) Valindra: 'Why, if it not my dearest Doyenne.'

<SCHOLAR> (Doyenne) Serra: 'Well, I am the only Doyenne. So there is not much competition!'

<HERALD> (Lore Keeper) Valindra: 'I almost said, 'The Doyenne of my heart' and thought immediately better of it, considering my reputation as an irascible old witch.'

<SCHOLAR> (Doyenne) Serra: 'Hah. Yes, you must keep up appearances.'

<HERALD> (Lore Keeper) Valindra: 'I am green with envy and also my natural pigmentation. What a curse!'

<SCHOLAR> (Doyenne) Serra: 'It could be worse, if you were green with indigestion or seasickness.'

<HERALD> (Lore Keeper) Valindra: 'Please feel welcome to move my interview the Implementor of Blood.'

<SCHOLAR> (Doyenne) Serra: 'Oh wonderful, thank you.'

<HERALD> (Lore Keeper) Valindra: 'Also you have carte blanche to move anything I write at any time as you see fit. You are my most trusted editor.'

<SCHOLAR> (Doyenne) Serra: 'I would much rather confirm first with you. Your arrangements are much neater than mine!'

<HERALD> (Lore Keeper) Valindra: 'I think you have seen me line up crystal balls and muffins upon my desk at right angles one too many times.'

<SCHOLAR> (Doyenne) Serra: 'Too many or not enough?'

>>> Consortium stuff ensues.

<SCHOLAR> (Doyenne) Serra: 'I've moved it over.'

<HERALD> (Lore Keeper) Valindra: 'Thank you, darling.'
<HERALD> (Lore Keeper) Valindra: 'The Knight has finally approached me for the oath.'

<SCHOLAR> (Doyenne) Serra: 'Oh?'

[Exits: north east]
A desk covered with soft leather rests here facing a window.
A glass cabinet is mounted above the desk containing a golden parchment.
(White Aura) Azerayhna the swamped herald maid is rushing around here.
Valindra the Sage of Arcane Power, Lore Keeper of Myth is here.

You chuckle politely.
You say 'What does she say?'
You rest.

Leitha tells you 'I'm trying to discuss the oath with her... Or I was, and it doesn't seem to have gotten anywhere.'

Valindra leaps from her desk to greet you, chins wobbling merrily.

You smile at her.

Valindra says 'She has only asked me to take it, and I have informed her that I cannot.'

Players near you in Holy Grove:
<PK> Leitha The holy grove
<PK> Valindra Office of the High Herald
<PK> Serra Office of the High Herald

You say 'Ah, indeed.'
You say 'Does being part of the Consortium prevent it?'

Valindra says 'I regretfully directed her to the ultimate stanza of my poem "Witch's Rap."'

***
Witch's Rap

I am the witch with the goblin's face.
It belonged to another,
But she's been replaced.
Skitterwit magic in my bones,
But that soul of mine?
It's a crone's.

I'll read your fortune
With a deck of cards
Sitting high on the hog
In this house of bards.

What do I see when I peer into flame?
Simply that you will remember my name:
Valindra, Valindra, Valiiiiindra!

That old witch of Acadia's
Never gonna say to ya
'Take an Oath to Valour!'
That shit is degrading ya.
One more time, like a second attack.
Say it louder for the bitches in the back:
Valindra, Valindra, Valiiiiindra!
***

Leitha tells you 'Oh well, I don't really want to do what I sense is coming but I am not sure what options I have left now.'

You tell Leitha 'Please do not fight in the Rest.'
You tell Leitha 'Also, she is not actually a threat to Valour.'

Leitha tells you 'I'll wait for Ilromie to return because she said she would be back.'

Valindra says 'But she does perhaps call upon the Rest, so let us hope she makes wise decisions.'

You nod.
You say 'Leitha tells me she will wait to speak with Ilromie.'

Valindra nods, chins wobbling.
Valindra says 'Who can say how even my sister will respond?'

You tell Leitha 'Indeed, miss. Ilromie will have more of an idea than I about matters of the Oath.'

Valindra says 'Only the wind.'

You chuckle politely.

Leitha tells you 'Aye.'

Valindra raises a stubby emerald finger.

You say 'Does the wind know? Or simply blow?'

Leitha tells you 'I feel like trying to beat it out of Valindra is not exactly the way to go.'
Leitha tells you 'But what do I know of these things?'

Valindra says 'Though -- Ilromie seemed to love Witch's Rap and contends I would have won the poetry contest with it. So I will interpret that as a full-throated endorsement of my decision to decline.'

You let out a hearty laugh.

You tell Leitha 'I suspect raising a hand toward her would push her away from the light.'

Leitha tells you 'It's more for those who are a potential threat. And I have not yet embarked on a crusade, which was a wise choice.'
Leitha tells you 'Aye.'

Valindra says 'You are well, Doyenne?'

You nod.
You say 'I have been working on various tasks, keeping busy.'
You chuckle politely.

Valindra says 'I received your letter.'
Valindra says 'I do think Hibba could carry a letter for you.'

You say 'Ohhh.'
You say 'Yes!'
You say 'I have... a thought.'

Valindra says 'I will scribe it formally so that Ilromie may know as well.'
Valindra says 'You have more than most, in fact. But share this one!'

You say 'I know it is too dangerous for us to go ourselves across the portals, but if any of our friendly spirits still linger in Acadia, perhaps they could work together against the demons there while we fight the ones here.'
You say 'So I thought perhaps to let them know what happens here, and ask them for their aid, if they should hear us.'

Valindra nods, chins wobbling.
Valindra says 'I sensed another demon soldier recently.'

You sigh.

Valindra says 'I should have really written down the name, Serra. Forgive a hasty witch.'

You comfort her.
You say 'It is likely not their own name, anyhow.'

Valindra nods at you in agreement.

You say 'Those I remember as good allies to call upon are Warlord Thoom, and the Knights: Rhoa, Alkas, and Lumubella. Perhaps the Justices Llloyied and Zanward.'
Serra taps her chin thoughtfully.
You say 'I do not know if they are all still lingering there, or indeed how long a spirit stays in Acadia.'

Valindra says 'But I have . . . seen . . . Hibba call others of her kind.'

You say 'Do wisps have any opinion on demons?'

Valindra says 'They fear them.'
Valindra says 'Of course, they would be smart to.'

You nod.

Valindra says 'Considering the predilections we've witnessed of late.'

You say 'Indeed.'
You say 'I have been smashing portals as I came across them - Seringale, here in the Grove, in Drkshtyre Forest.'
You say 'They keep reappearing.'

Valindra says 'They often appear outside my door.'

You nod.

Valindra says 'I do not know if like calls to like, and they respond to Hibba's energy.'

You say 'Ahh.'
You say 'Where is she, is she asleep?'

Valindra says 'But that is my reasonable conclusion.'

You ponder the question.
You say 'One to the Warlord. One to the Knights. One to the Justices. And one to your friend.'
You smile happily.
You give a news pamphlet to Valindra.
You say 'You can write the one to Gimbolin if you like.'

Valindra rises from her seat behind the desk to attend near your knee.

You say 'I do not believe I ever met him.'

Valindra says 'Then, at least in this, you are unlucky.'

You nod.
You say 'He sounded like a dear friend.'

Valindra smiles, her emerald paling to lime.
Valindra looks at a news pamphlet.
Valindra hands the sheet over shakily as she quickly stuffs away vials of ink and blotting sand into the pouches at her waist.
Valindra says 'I must call upon Hibbadibbity.'
Valindra utters the words, 'xafe ay candusqarr'.
A ray of light from above envelops Valindra.
Valindra disappears.
a tiny wisp named Hibbadibbity joins the group.

Valindra walks in.
A tiny wisp named Hibbadibbity flies in.
Valindra shoves Hibbadibbity into the room before her, a brisk whirlwind of evanescing wisp and tottering little goblin.

(Charmed) (Translucent) A tiny wisp hovers here, shedding its essence as it bobs in the air.
(Translucent) Valindra the Sage of Arcane Power, Lore Keeper of Myth is here.
(OUTCAST) Kali the Rebuked Chimera is here.
(White Aura) Calram the Moo Herald guards the entrance to the Heraldic offices.
(White Aura) Keeb, the halls curator, snoozes here peacefully on a hammock suspended from the ceiling.

Kali looks at Valindra.
Kali looks at you.

Valindra smiles, her chins wobbling.

You smile at him.

Kali bows deeply to Valindra, maintaining eye contact and smiling all the while.

Valindra whispers to you 'I forgot how handsome . . .'

Kali raises and turns to bow to you.

Valindra strains on her tippiest toes to reach Serra's ear, and she still cannot without stage whispering.

You chuckle politely.

Valindra tells the group 'I keep an eye on the Knight.'
Valindra says 'You have received my letters, Chimera?'

Kali says 'I apologize for not returning word sooner but I have just read them now.'

You ponder the question.

Kali says 'And I am grateful for the opportunity to stand before the Court.'

Valindra gets curly judge hair from a satchel embroidered with the crest of Heralds.
Valindra removes a wide brimmed hat from her head.
Valindra's hair twists up into powdered curls.
Valindra's tone grows somewhat officious as she dons the ceremonial wig.

Leitha walks in.
Keeb snorts himself awake and sits up tiredly.
Keeb peers around himself intently.
Keeb peers intently at Leitha.
Keeb says 'What the...Who the...Baa!'
Keeb rolls around and goes back to sleep.
Leitha looks at Kali.
Leitha greets Kali warmly.

Valindra says to Leitha 'Take care inside the Rest, dear.'

Kali smiles at Leitha.
Kali says to Leitha 'Greetings, Leitha.'
Kali bows politely to Leitha.

Leitha says to Kali 'That red aura about your person has not disappeared in quite a while, I am getting quite concerned.'

Valindra says to you 'May I?'

You say 'Hmm?'

Kali says to Leitha 'In fact, that is exactly what we were just now discussing.'

Valindra moves as if to climb Serra's shoulder, but regards the giant with tiny, watery eyes first.

Leitha says to Kali 'I see.'

You say 'Oh, of course.'

Valindra scrabbles up the resting giant so that she now is on a level with Kali and Leitha.

Serra pats Valindra's foot and gets back to writing.

Leitha says to Kali 'Well do you think that the oath is out of the question for the time being? Just to set my mind at ease.'

A tiny wisp named Hibbadibbity flutters and flizzers before alighting upon Serra's other shoulder. They make quite a trio, all told.

Kali watches as Valindra makes her ascent, flashing a smile to reveal perfectly white teeth.

Valindra utters the words, 'qcandusahz yaae'.
A plate of liver and onions suddenly appears.
A plate of liver and onions suddenly appears.
Valindra gets a plate of liver and onions.
Valindra gives a plate of liver and onions to Kali.

You say 'Yum, liver.'
Yuck, try to cover your mouth next time!

Kali's hunger hits him.

Valindra says to you 'Liver? I don't even know 'er.'

You let out a hearty laugh.
You give a stack of pancakes to Kali.

Valindra nearly topples from the giant's shoulder as she laughs at her own joke.

Kali thanks you heartily.
Kali eats a stack of pancakes.

<MYSTIC> Glorwinda the Psi-Ascetic: 'The winds welcome your return, Wylsin the Sage of Arcane Power, Doyen of Arcane.'

<SCHOLAR> (Doyenne) Serra: 'Greetings, sir!'

<MYSTIC> (Doyen) Wylsin: 'Salutations Serra. I am very pleased to see you once again.'

<HERALD> (Lore Keeper) Valindra: 'Wylsin Plindane, you right scamp!'
<HERALD> (Lore Keeper) Valindra: 'You have evaded me far too long, and I have need of you soon.'

<MYSTIC> (Doyen) Wylsin: 'Salutations Valindra.'
<MYSTIC> (Doyen) Wylsin: 'Oh, is that so?'

Leitha says to Kali 'I repeat, are you willing to consider the oath, so that I may know your intentions?'

Valindra interrupts with a stubby emerald hand.

Kali says 'I have taken a vow to Aberdour to never harm a lightwalker, never assist a wicked creature, never utilize tainted gear, and to never duplicate a creature of evil.'
Kali says 'Ever since I was cast out by the Great Tormentor I have strived to aid all of the light.'

Valindra says to Leitha 'Knight, his fate does not entirely belong to him once more. The gods will have a proper trial, and I shall administer their justice.'

Leitha sighs.

Valindra says 'Justice may be blind, but I can still see a little.'
Valindra blinks her tiny, watery eyes as if to illustrate.
Valindra says 'The Chimera have much to discuss. You may attend him later.'

<SCHOLAR> (Doyenne) Serra: 'Would you like to join us in the Rest?'

Leitha tells you 'And I know Ilromie will be of little or no use with this particular subject.'

<MYSTIC> (Doyen) Wylsin: 'Yes I would. May I ask for a few moments to become current in my correspondence?'

<SCHOLAR> (Doyenne) Serra: 'Of course!'

Valindra whispers to you 'I gave you my letter to Gimbol.'
You tell Valindra 'I have returned it.'
You tell Valindra 'I will work on the Justices' now.'

Valindra gets a judge's gavel from a satchel embroidered with the crest of Heralds.
Valindra stops using a golden teardrop buckler as a shield.
Valindra holds a judge's gavel in her hand.
Valindra perches upon Serra's shoulder in full judge regalia, her stubby fingers gripping her gavel with such force that her green knuckles whiten.

<SCHOLAR> Xerties the Sage: 'The winds welcome your return, Ilromie the Sage of Arcane Power, Polymath of History.'

Leitha says 'Excellent timing.'

Valindra tells you 'I may need you to entertain as I hoist the Chimera by his petard and try to finalize some details.'

You tell Valindra 'Ah, of course.'
You tell Valindra 'I will finish writing later.'
<SCHOLAR> (Doyenne) Serra: 'Greetings, my friend - apologies for the slowness, I was writing a letter.'

<HERALD> (Lore Keeper) Valindra: 'I have no such excuse for my own lack of haste, but I am also happy to see you.'

Kali's eyes move over Valindra's form, taking in the wig and gavel, and his smile melts.

<SCHOLAR> (Doyenne) Serra: 'Ilromie, would you care to join us in the Rest?'

<SCHOLAR> (Polymath) Ilromie: 'I shall arrive promptly.'

Valindra rights herself upon Serra's shoulder as the giant stands and sits again, nearly toppling from her precarious perch.

Yuck, try to cover your mouth next time!
You say 'Apologies my dear.'

Keeb snorts himself awake and sits up tiredly.
Keeb peers around himself intently.
Keeb peers intently at Ilromie.
Keeb says 'What the...Who the...Baa!'
Keeb rolls around and goes back to sleep.

You let out a hearty laugh.

Ilromie nicely asks Keeb to be more quiet.

Outside the Hall of Archives
* | You have now reached the top floor of the Inn. The second
| | floor looked wealthy, but this is amazing! The paintings alone
* * * | must have cost a fortune, and all the furniture is chunky,
| | | | solid and expensive looking. Some of the treasures resting
*-*-@-* | on tables in alcoves are probably the rarest things you have
| | ever seen. The wood panelling on the walls is of some type
* | now lost to the world, being very light but silky to the touch.
| The rugs covering the highly polished wooden floor are of
| the very best material and cut, and would in all likelihood
---------+ fetch a king's ransom at any auction. You guess the owner
of the inn herself must live up here, for who else could afford such a place?
A brightly lit passageway full of books extends to the north. To the west is
a set of large open double doors that lead to the High Herald's personal quarters
and office. To the south is a small quiet alcove.

[Exits: north east south west]
(Translucent) Ilromie the Sage of Arcane Power, Polymath of History is here.
(White Aura) Leitha the Holy Lady, Knight of Valour is here.
(Charmed) A tiny wisp hovers here, shedding its essence as it bobs in the air.
(White Aura) Valindra the Sage of Arcane Power, Lore Keeper of Myth is here.
(OUTCAST) Kali the Rebuked Chimera is here.
(White Aura) Calram the Moo Herald guards the entrance to the Heraldic offices.
(White Aura) Keeb, the halls curator, snoozes here peacefully on a hammock suspended from the ceiling.

Valindra leaps from her perch upon Serra to greet Ilromie, chins wobbling merrily.

Ilromie smiles at Valindra.

Valindra whispers something to Ilromie.
Valindra walks north.
A tiny wisp named Hibbadibbity flies north.

You tell your group 'What do we call this, an aggregate of academics?'

Kali must like Ilromie a great deal to beam at her so broadly!

Valindra walks in.
A tiny wisp named Hibbadibbity flies in.

Wylsin tells the group 'A Quorum of course.'

Valindra returns nearly so quickly as she departed, shyly slipping something to Ilromie before scrabbling up Serra once more as if the giant were a ladder.
Valindra gives a leather-bound book titled 'Fortune Yeller: Poems by Valindra Skitterwit' to Ilromie.

Someone says 'You are doing it wrong Valindra.'
Someone wields mighty smashum fist.

Ilromie whispers something to Valindra.

You peer around yourself intently.
You say 'Oh dear.'

Valindra startles from her perch, nearly toppling to the ground.

Kali's jaw stiffens as he looks about.

Valindra says 'Reveal yourself to the judge, for she has donned her wig for the evening's proceedings!'

Serra steadies Valindra as she gets to her feet.
You stand up.

Valindra adjusts the bottom of her wig as another might the fanciest hairstyle.

You let out a hearty laugh.

Someone says 'I dont take orders from fat people.'
An Immortal cloaks his presence.

You peer around yourself intently.

Valindra says 'Then you are lucky I am not a person.'

An Immortal says 'Are you all trying to get the trial started?'

You say 'It is not yet time.'

Valindra says 'Not at all. I must confirm with the Chimera, allow him time to meet with his defense, and then assuage my adoring public. Of which, apparently, there are many!'

An Immortal says 'I'm overly busy but I would like to be at it. I will do the best I can.'

Valindra says 'We shall schedule a proper event.'

Ilromie nods at Valindra.

Kali says 'If there are enough to proceed, then so be it.'
Kali says 'I need no time to prepare.'

Valindra says 'I seek only to confirm availability.'

Kali says 'Nor will my defense or witnesses.'

Valindra says 'No, no.'
Valindra says 'THIS IS MY FARCE!'
Valindra says 'EVERYONE SETTLE DOWN!'

You let out a hearty laugh.
You sit down.

Valindra swings her gavel wildly, so look out if you are within her stubby radius.

Dogran arrives from a puff of smoke.

Ilromie says 'Why don't we move to a room with a couch?'
Ilromie frowns.

Valindra says 'Minister!'

An Immortal has created a striped couch!

You say 'I was just trying to write a letter.'
You sigh.

Valindra comforts you.

Leitha looks at Dogran.
Leitha smirks.

Valindra clambers down from her perch upon Serra's shoulder and makes for the couch.

A saggy looking couch with black and white vertical stripes sits in the corner.

Valindra sits down and rests on a striped couch.

You tell your group 'Half expected that to scream.'

Valindra collapses dramatically onto a couch as if it were built for fainting.

Kali flinches momentarily at Dogran's appearance before clenching his jaw and looking at him.

Valindra holds her stubby hand to her forehead in pantomime.

Dogran looks at Kali.

Wylsin tells the group 'I am en route to the Rest. Serra, you are as prolific a writer as ever.'

Ilromie sits dramatically upon the sofa.
Ilromie sits on a striped couch.

Valindra says 'The facts are these: we shall, this night, set a date for the trial.'

You tell your group 'I apologize, far too much time on my hands sir, and Rathin keeps providing me with ink!'

Valindra says 'Solmundi will argue as the Chair of Reproach, and Ilromie shall provide defense.'

[KEEPER] The Balance prevails within the four kingdoms.
There are 13 characters on; the most on this past month was 17.

Ilromie says 'Will the precise charges be laid by the Chair or in advance of the date?'

Valindra says 'That seems like a reasonable request, counselor.'

Dogran grins evilly.
Dogran says 'I can prosecute on Solmundi's behalf.'

Ilromie snorts derisively.

Wylsin walks in.
Keeb snorts himself awake and sits up tiredly.
Keeb peers around himself intently.
Keeb peers intently at Wylsin.
Keeb says 'What the...Who the...Baa!'
Keeb rolls around and goes back to sleep.

Ilromie says 'In fact, you cannot.'

Wylsin nicely asks Keeb to be more quiet.
Keeb slaps Wylsin.

An Immortal says 'You'd probably do a better job too.'

You smile at him.

Ilromie says 'Only one chair was named.'

Dogran says 'It's not up to you Ilromie.'
Dogran snorts derisively.

Wylsin raises an eyebrow.

Dogran says 'I would argue that Solmundi, being the victim is too close, and volunteer my services.'

Valindra lifts herself up on the couch as she itches under her wig with the wrong end of her gavel.

An Immortal says 'Dogran, I hereby appoint you to slip a whoopie cushion on the judge's chair.'

Dogran agrees absolutely.

Wylsin raises an eyebrow.

Ilromie says to Valindra 'Your honor, he has no standing.'

You let out a hearty laugh.

Dogran begins to fiddle with something behind his back.

Wylsin whispers something to Valindra.

An Immortal says 'Have we decided on a list of executions to choose from yet? I was thinking tornado.'

Dogran says 'We could toss him into the abyss.'
Dogran grins evilly.

Kali puffs out his chest.
Kali says 'I am no coward.'

Ilromie says 'Enjoy your fantasies.'

Kali says 'I will accept the judgement of the court.'

Valindra says to Dogran 'Minister, you are of course always welcome in my courtroom. Ilromie, however, has the right of it. I shall leave it to the Implementor of Blood if he wishes to appoint a junior counselor--but then I must also extend that invitation to the d.'

Kali says 'Though I do not believe it will have the outcome you desire.'

An Immortal says 'Ah, slamming headfirst into a mountainside at several thousand miles per hour though.'

Valindra clears her throat as a toad might.

An Immortal says 'That skull would pop lovely.'

Dogran nods in enthusiastic agreement with an Immortal.

Wylsin shifts uncomfortably.

Valindra says 'This is a circus when I have asked for a trial.'

Kali moves over to take a place beside Ilromie.
Kali sits on a striped couch.

An Immortal says 'I didnt mean to rush anything. I would rather try to have an appointment and make it to it.'

Valindra points her gavel around the room, hovering indelicately over the space where an Immortal might stand.

You say 'Let us all stick to the plan Valindra has laid. It is a fair and decent one.'
You say 'First, a date to be set.'

Kali says 'I would again say that my defense is more than fully capable. I have the utmost faith in Ilromie to represent me at any time, now or future.'

Valindra nods at you in agreement.

Ilromie nods at Kali.

An Immortal says 'However, what if the accused is a flight risk. Maybe we should tie him to a post for a while.'

Ilromie says 'However, that is not to say that I won't accept another wise voice at my side, should the scales weight too heavy.'

An Immortal says 'I know a really remote location.'

Kali says 'My actions and words have been consistent my entire life.'

Dogran snorts derisively at Kali.

Valindra says 'The Chimera has submitted himself to the People's justice.'

Kali says 'I have.'

Ilromie says to Kali 'In fact, I am surprised the immortals think you can find a place to hide beyond their reach.'

Leitha closes her eyes momentarily.
A brilliant glow radiates from Leitha's body, basking the room with purity.
Leitha sits down and rests.

Valindra gets a wisp essence from a satchel embroidered with the crest of Heralds.
Valindra gives a wisp essence to Dogran.
Dogran eats a wisp essence.
Dogran licks his mouth and smiles.

Wylsin says towards the void 'That's quite a ridiculous statement. In the time I have known Kali he has never run from a challenge, for good or ill.'

Kali nods at Ilromie.

Valindra shoves the essence toward Dogran as if she were handing over a hot potato. The set of her mouth is grim.

You nod in enthusiastic agreement with Wylsin.

Kali says 'Wylsin is quite right. I have been called many things in my life, but I have never been called a coward.'

Dogran snickers softly.

Wylsin says to Kali 'Quite right. Foolhardy, brash, hard-headed. All so. But not a coward.'

Kali nods in enthusiastic agreement with Wylsin.

Valindra beckons Kali to follow.

An Immortal says 'An objection? Hah. Overruled.' <-- Oh just you wait

Kali squeezes Ilromie's hand before standing and following Valindra.
Kali stands up.

Wylsin rolls his eyes, disgusted.

An Immortal says 'Valindra, its gavel time.'

Valindra says 'I seek a private audience with the Chimera.'
Valindra says 'Do not attend us.'
Valindra walks east.
A tiny wisp named Hibbadibbity flies east.

Leitha scans all around.

An Immortal throws back his head and cackles with insane glee!
An Immortal says 'I can hear them.'

Dogran snickers softly.

You chuckle politely.

Ilromie frowns.

Wylsin says towards the void 'Your statements would imply that a fair trial is not to be had in this instance.'

An Immortal says 'He just cried about being in a bedroom with Valindra.'

You nod at Wylsin.

An Immortal says 'And I thought I was rude.'

Wylsin says towards the void 'Should this endeavor even be undertaken if there is no hope of any abidance to the results?'

An Immortal says 'Well its been fun, but I have a load of drinking to do. Wylsin, you shouldve been judge. It wont be fair since you arent.'

Wylsin raises an eyebrow.

Dogran grins evilly.
Dogran says 'Should have made me judge.'
Dogran throws back his head and cackles with insane glee!

Ilromie snorts derisively.
Ilromie says to Dogran 'You can go, too.'

Wylsin says towards the void 'I confess I don't believe I could be impartial as I consider the defendant a close friend.'

An Immortal says 'The most powerful role in this instance is the prosecutor no doubt.'

Valindra tells you 'Kali is inclined to push for a trial now.'

Ilromie waves her hand dismissively at Dogran.

You tell Valindra 'Are you ready? Is Ilromie?'

Wylsin says towards the void 'As such I would be forced to recuse myself.'

You say to Wylsin 'I have felt the same.'

Dogran steps into his own shadow.

Wylsin says 'It's unfortunate there are no Keepers about. This seems well-suited to their ideals.'

You nod.
You say 'I would trust their judgment in this.'

Wylsin says 'Would there be any in existence to preside.'

You chuckle politely.

Ilromie says 'In fact, a Keeper would be an excellent judge.'
Ilromie says 'Tell not Valindra.'

You let out a hearty laugh.

Wylsin says 'Perhaps we should press Hyuruin into their service. Then at least there would be one to wave their banner.'

Leitha says 'Fenlorn still lives.'

You say 'I believe there is at least one other seeking their halls.'

Wylsin raises an eyebrow.

You say 'Gerok, I think.'

Wylsin says 'Who?'

Leitha says 'Gerok, aye.'

You say 'I also met a young monk who asked me whether he should seek the balance or the Fortress, but it was not a choice I could make for him.'
You chuckle politely.

Ilromie says 'What did you tell him?'

You say 'I told him to study both and seek whichever felt truest to himself.'
You say 'He babbled a bit madly and disappeared.'

Ilromie says 'Perhaps he shall join neither.'

You say 'It is possible.'

Wylsin says 'Am I to understand that Solmundi is to be the prosecutor in these proceedings?'

Ilromie nods.

Wylsin boggles at the concept.
Wylsin says 'What in blazes?!'
Wylsin says 'That is ludicrous.'

You say 'Who appointed him?'

Ilromie says 'He is the "Chair of Reproach".'

Leitha says 'Does he have personal interest involved?'

Wylsin says 'Yes he does.'

Leitha nods.

Ilromie says 'In fact, it was Davairus who approved the trial and named him Chair.'

You chuckle politely.

Wylsin says 'He was party to the altercation that resulted in Kali's Outcast.'

You say 'Farce indeed.'

Leitha peers around herself intently.

You say 'I did not wish for a trial.'

Wylsin says to Leitha 'Are you unaware of the circumstance which resulted in Kali's present state?'

Leitha nods at Wylsin.

Wylsin says to Leitha 'I thought he would have explained it to you.'
Wylsin says to Leitha 'I thought he would have explained it to you.'

Leitha says 'Never got the full story.'

Wylsin says 'It is a brief tale, in all.' <-- Narrator: It wasn't.

Ilromie frowns.

Wylsin says to Leitha 'After a great deal of effort, Kali, Ilromie, and myself laid waste to the five Ancient Dragons of Serin.'

Valindra tells you 'Kali wished to rush to trial.'

Ilromie tells you 'Have you been able to speak with Kali at all?'

Valindra tells you 'Perhaps Ilromie talks him out of it.'

You tell Ilromie 'I have not. Valindra has been speaking with him since he arrived, and he now wishes to rush to trial.'

You tell Ilromie 'Valindra asks if you can talk him out of it.'

Wylsin says to Leitha 'We returned their heads to the forge in Solace as is the way. While we were deliberating the fate of the resultant wares, Solmundi entered and immediately destroyed the things.'

Ilromie tells you 'We are not rushing the trial.'

Leitha raises an eyebrow.

You tell Ilromie 'I am glad to hear it.'
You tell Valindra 'I let her know. She will try.'

Wylsin says to Leitha 'We were all quite incensed. After a great deal of cross words in both directions, Solmundi challenged Ilromie to a duel in the Arena.'

Leitha nods.

Ilromie shakes her head.
Ilromie says 'In fact, I challenged him.'

Wylsin says to Leitha 'She accepted naturally. Solmundi was the victor, but his steed proceeded to dispatch poor Ilromie as she lay stunned upon the ground.'
Wylsin says to Ilromie 'Ah, my mistake.'

Ilromie says 'For his rude behavior following the sacrifice of our treasures.'

Wylsin nods at Ilromie.

Leitha says 'I must leave this place soon.'
Leitha says 'A Legion scoundrel must be dispatched.'

You nod at Leitha.

Leitha nods.

Wylsin says to Leitha 'In response to Solmundi's callous disregard for Ilromie's life, Kali set upon him in a fit of rage, for he cares for Ilromie so deeply.'

Ilromie blinks innocently.
Ilromie says 'Do you think they will hear you?'

Wylsin says 'How so?'

You say 'I have asked Valindra to send Hibbadibbity across the portals.'
You say 'Being a wisp, she may pass unnoticed.'

Wylsin says 'A reasonable assumption.'

You say 'We have been thinking about potential allies there, if their spirits still reside in Acadia.'

Ilromie smiles happily.
Ilromie says 'A wise pursuit, my friend.'

You say 'I thought of Thoom, Rhoa, Alkas, Lumubella. Perhaps the justices Llloyied and Zanward. And Valindra seeks the aid of her friend, Gimbolin.'

Ilromie says 'Sir Trovo, perhaps?'

Ilromie says 'Your friend Darvaz.'

Wylsin nicely asks Keeb to be more quiet.
Keeb says 'Thats kind of you.'

You say 'If possible they would stand against the demons there, and draw them from the portals.'
You say 'Relieving some of the pressure upon Serin.'

Valindra says 'The Trial shall commence in fourteen renewals, coinciding with the cycle of storms.'

You cheer Valindra on and wish her good luck!

Valindra inclines her head imperiously, the effect somewhat spoiled by the flecks of flan upon her chin.

Dogran steps out of a dark Vortex.

Valindra smiles, her chins wobbling.
Valindra says to Dogran 'We shall commence the trial in fourteen renewals, coinciding with the beginning of that cycle of storms.'

Dogran sighs.

Valindra comforts Dogran.

Valindra nods at Wylsin.
Valindra says 'Correct, Plindane.'
Valindra whispers something to Ilromie.

Ilromie whispers something to Valindra.

Valindra nods somewhat dejectedly, her chins wobbling.

Ilromie says 'There is room for one space.'

Wylsin raises an eyebrow at Valindra's weird actions.

Valindra says to Dogran 'Can you smite whomever called me fat?'
Valindra says to Dogran 'Please?'

Ilromie says to Wylsin 'Would you like to join us?'

Dogran snickers softly.
Dogran says 'I am not allowed to smite people yet.'
Dogran mutters something quietly to himself.

Dogran says 'They are afraid I would kill them outright...'

Wylsin gallantly tips his hat to Asendan.

Asendan beams broadly!

Wylsin says 'Salutations Asendan.'

Asendan says 'Greetings!'

Valindra bats her eyes at Asendan as if she'd been practicing.

You say 'Greetings, sir.'

Valindra says to Asendan 'Slippery boy!'

Kali says 'Aid of the Knights, an admirable task.'

Ilromie says 'Excuse me.'

Asendan must like Ilromie a great deal to beam at her so broadly!

Kali says 'Although I would imagine that I am not invited.'

You nod.

Ilromie smiles at Kali.
Ilromie shakes her head.

Valindra tells you 'You go to aid the knight?'

You tell Valindra 'I will not, Ilromie takes Wylsin.'

Valindra tells you 'I must say I am not saddened.'

Asendan says 'Not much adventure unless you are looking for a good herald write?'

You say 'Do you have a good story?'

Asendan says 'No but I know some adventure to be had.'

Valindra clambers up Serra's side and onto the giant's shoulder.

Wylsin raises an eyebrow at Valindra's weird actions.

You say 'What adventure do you seek?'

Asendan says 'Anything with relics.'

You let out a hearty laugh.

Wylsin gallantly tips his hat.

Asendan says 'I was thinking mist, or faction of blood.'

Wylsin utters the words, 'xafe ay candusqarr'.
A ray of light from above envelops Wylsin.
Wylsin disappears.

You nod.

Valindra says 'I am fastidiously authoring an event!'
Valindra says 'All shall behold my event writing, and tremble!'

Dogran waves happily.
Dogran has left the realms.

Kali says to you 'May we speak for a moment?'

You nod.
You say 'Of course, my friend.'

Kali beckons for you to follow.
You now follow Kali.

Room 1C of the Travellers Rest
| This room is fairly modest in furnishings and decoration,
| since the more expensive rooms are on the higher floors.
| There is a large bed on one side of the room, and a wardrobe
| for putting clothes or other items into. The bathroom
@ | is further down the corridor near the library, these rooms
| | not warranting en-suite bathrooms. There is also a heavy
*-*-*| oak table and a padded chair here, perfect for sitting
| in or doing some writing perhaps. The curtains are drawn
| to cover the large window in the north facing wall, but
---------+ several small brass lamps provide ample light to see by.
The only exit is back out onto the corridor southwards.

[Exits: south]
A large, well-made bed sits here. It looks comfortable.
A large wardrobe made of mahogany waits for you to put something in it.
(OUTCAST) Kali the Rebuked Chimera is here.

Kali says 'I wanted to thank you.'

You bat your eyelashes.
You say 'Whatever for?'

Kali says 'For everything you have done for me, with speaking to Lord Kedaleam and the Great Tormentor.'
Kali says 'It takes courage to face him.'

You chuckle politely.

Kali says 'And for speaking to Lord Ceridwel about my devotion to Lord Aberdour.'

You nod.

Kali says 'I would never have agreed to anything if Lord Ceridwel had not weighed in.'

You say 'I am glad he spoke with you.'

Kali says 'My grandfather is a staunch follower of Lord Aberdour and I never would have been able to face him.'

You say 'Indeed. I would not dare to ask you to part from your God, unless it were dire circumstance.'

Kali says 'I think for now, however, the best course of action is to await the judgement of the court.'

You say 'I feel as though it rumbles on to an inevitable conclusion.'
You say 'What fairness can we seek when we argue against a god?'
You sigh.

Kali says 'Well, there will be arguments for each side.'

You say 'In truth I hoped to avoid it. But I will observe and listen.'

Kali says 'If at the end of it all, my innocence is clear, and I am found innocent, yet he punishes me anyways - that shall only reflect upon him.'
Kali says 'I do not fear the outcome, my friend.'

You say 'You are ever so brave, sir.'

Kali clenches his jaw and puffs out his chest.
Kali says 'I am no coward.'
Kali says 'I have felt many things, but I have never felt fear for myself.'
Kali says 'I have only felt fear for my friends.'

Serra puts her hand gently on Kali's shoulder.
You say 'I know.'
You say 'I have felt the same fear, only for others.'

Kali looks at you and his expression softens.
Kali says 'Have you regained all of your memories?'

You say 'Most, I suspect.'
You say 'I cannot be entirely sure, for my original journal has been lost to me.'
You say 'Ilromie carries it within her Tome but its words elude me when I try to read it, and it is too much torture to ask her to recite it all aloud.'
You let out a hearty laugh.

Kali says 'I am sure she would, if you asked her.'

You say 'I would not dare. We would age another twenty years each.'

Kali says 'I would do anything to help you regain your memories.'
Kali says 'Is there anything I can do to help you?'

You say 'Hmm. Indeed...'
You say 'Not for my memories, but something quite different.'

Kali says 'You have known me for a very long time.'

You say 'I wished to tell you about this before, but I felt with the trial, you needed all your focus, but perhaps...'

Kali says 'You know that I am always happy to help you.'

You nod.
You say 'Serin is under siege, from an external force.'

Kali listens attentively.

You say 'You may have noticed here and there the Elven paladins that suddenly exhibited demon-like features.'

Kali nods.
Kali says 'They shine brightly, then are turned and quickly succumb.'
Kali says 'Like Thalandir.'

You agree absolutely.
You say 'I have met several now, in my lifetime. One I saw being turned before my eyes in Acadia.'

Kali's eyes widen.

You say 'And one I have met here, who told me his demon followed me home the last time I ventured there.'

Kali winces in agony.

You say 'These are not the only demons.'

Kali nods.
Kali says 'I saw one before the talk of the trial.'
Kali says 'A young one.'

You say 'I have been seeking to study them as they appear in Serin. There are some, such as the invoker Werig, who come from the Underworld.'
You say 'These are demons with their own corporeal forms.'

Kali taps his chin in thought.
Kali says 'And the ones from Acadia need elves?'

You say 'There are other demons who seem to be spirits, and inhabit the bodies of others, wresting their minds from them.'

Kali says 'Despicable!'
Kali says 'Possession?'

You say 'The ones from Acadia seem to strike elves with the most success. I do not know how or why.'
You say 'One attempted to take over my mentor, Markus - only he was half-elf, and was not fully turned.'
You say 'Another attempted to take me over, as well, but did not succeed.'
You say 'The last I have seen...'
Serra looks around, shuddering.
You whisper to Kali 'Valindra, Ilromie and I have all seen hints that an Immortal has begun to turn.'

Kali's eyes widen further and a look of concern crosses his face.

You whisper to Kali 'The Lady of Air... the Collector of Secrets... is no longer fully who she was.'

Kali boggles at the concept.

You say 'I have asked all of the members of the Consortium to join me in research to understand what we face.'

Kali says loudly 'You think Vevier has something to do with the demons?'

You say 'I do not know.'

Kali says 'Oh Serra.'
Kali says 'This is all so beyond me.'
Kali says 'I know nothing of gods or demons.'

You nod.

Kali says 'I know of friendship, of love, and of battle.'
Kali says 'I am a warrior, Serra.'

You say 'You are indeed, sir.'

Kali struggles for a moment under the weight of his sins.
Kali says 'At least, I was...'
Kali says 'I fear I could do little to stave off any demon now.'
Kali says 'Though if one were to come for you this very moment I would stand before you, that you might escape.'

You say 'You will not always be burdened. And your soul is still bright.'

Kali says 'Those of the shadows may not fear me now as they once did, but those of the light can ever count on me as an ally.'
Kali grunts as he begins to struggle with his belongings.

You say 'I think we may need you now, more than ever.'

Kali says 'I know so little of the Gods, other than what my grandfather has told me of Aberdour and what I have experienced first hand with the Great Tormentor.'
Kali says 'Other than that passed down knowledge and the direct experience, I know little.'
Kali says 'Other than that which you have shared with me of the way of water, of course.'

You chuckle politely.

Kali gets a leather-bound book titled 'The Book of Water' from a Big Ol'Pack Sack.

You say 'I do not ask you to fight, but rather to help me to learn. What may make an elf susceptible beyond others in Serin?'

Kali taps his chin in thought.
Kali says 'Hmmmm.'

You say 'And what can we do to help them better defend themselves?'

Kali says 'Well there are a few things that I can think of that make elves unique.'

You nod.

Kali says 'The first, and most obvious thing, is our immortality.'
Kali says 'Does that make us different from the lesser races in some particular fashion that makes us more susceptible to demonic possession?'

You mull over the idea at hand, asking for patience.

Kali says 'There is also our close connection to the light - only elves and storm giants, such as yourselves, are naturally born pure.'
Kali says 'Is there a connection between purity and possession?'

You ponder the question.

Kali taps his chin in thought.

You say 'It cannot be that, unless I am not pure. Which, I suppose, is possible.'
You say 'I did not know my family.'
You say 'Immortality is an interesting thought. For they have infected a god.'

Kali says 'Oh Serra, I have never met someone with a kinder heart than you.'
Kali says 'You are pure, in every sense of the word.'

You chuckle politely.
You say 'Single-minded and obsessed with research.'
You find yourself most agreeable.

Kali says 'The last thing that I can think of...'
Kali says 'Hubris.'
Kali sighs.

You say 'Ahh, indeed.'

Kali says 'Have you ever met such a prideful or self-confident peoples than elves?'
Kali says 'Of course, such feelings are well deserved.'
Kali says 'We are an ancient, immortal, pure race and our culture is unparalleled.'
Kali says 'But perhaps that makes us somehow susceptible to possession.'

You say 'I have seen many with pride in themselves. But few rival the elves in terms of the deep ties of their pride not only with themselves, but with their history and culture.'
You say 'A belief... that one is invulnerable to temptation due to one's purity... might leave one exposed.'
Serra rubs her chin.
You say 'I do not know if that is the case.'

Kali taps his chin in thought.
Kali says 'One other thing that I can think of.'
Kali says 'That comes form personal experience.'

The elf before you is tall and lean, yet well-muscled. His fair skin is
smooth and perfectly unblemished. His handsome face is perfectly
symmetrical with a thin jaw line and a delicate nose. His lips are neither
thin, nor lush, and are set in a slight frown. His face is completely
hairless, other than his delicate eyebrows that are slightly angled in
concentration. Long, smooth, blonde hair runs majestically past his neck
and shoulder blades. His clear blue eyes have a mischievous sparkle to
them. He has a troubled look upon his face, as if he carries a great weight
upon his strong shoulders.
He has unlocked many secrets of the world.
Kali is in excellent condition.

Kali says 'What if elves are particularly susceptible to possession by demons because we are closely watched and judged by the Gods themselves?'
Kali says 'Especially if, as you have said, there is a God that has an interest in demons.'

You say 'Ah, a curious hypothesis.'

Kali says 'Is it the Gods that are themselves somehow weakening us or allowing us to be possessed?'
Kali says 'These are simple observations and guesses from an unwise elf.'

You say 'I shall have to try to test it.'

Kali says 'I am a lover and a fighter - not a wise man.'
Kali says 'Though I would imagine we would learn much more if we were able to question a demon themselves.'

You nod.

Kali says 'I saw Aelaldric once, but not for long.'

You say 'I spoke with the demon that infiltrated him.'

Kali says 'Did you learn anything?'

You ponder the question.
You say 'Some. He is centuries old, and had been bored of prey in Acadia before he came here.'
You say 'He yearns for the feeling of pain.'

Kali says 'He wants to feel pain?'

You nod.

Kali says 'Why did he need to come here for that?'

You say 'I asked him that very question.'
You say 'He told me that the pain in Acadia is muted, compared to Serin. Each creature feels it independently.'
You say 'Here... because of how deeply we care about each other, the torture of one causes pain in many others, and is amplified.'

Kali frowns and clenches his fists.
Kali says 'What a vile creature.'

You nod.

Kali says 'Our relationships increase our pleasure, but also our pain...'

You nod.

Kali says 'I had never thought of it that way before.'

You say 'I have known it. But the one whom I could have caused pain to has thankfully passed beyond the veil.'

Kali says 'Though I had not thought of it before, I know exactly what you mean.'
Kali says 'Nothing has hurt me more than seeing Ilromie upon the breaking wheel and hearing her screams.'

You nod.

Kali says 'Torture me for a century - I shall never experience pain like that.'

You say 'It is what caused you to strike out, in pain. And why you stand as you are now.'

Kali sighs.
Kali says 'It is true.'

You say 'The demons must delight in all of it.'

Kali says 'I never would have struck Solmundi so if not for Ilromie's pain and death by his hand.'
Kali looks suddenly very alarmed.
Kali says 'Serra!'
Kali says 'Do you think a demon comes for me?'

You say 'I will not stand for it.'
Kali is surrounded by a white aura.
You say 'The demons... Solmundi... there are too many who have fallen to the dark.'

Kali says 'We have been speaking of elven paladins, but what if it is all elves that are susceptible to possession?'

Brrrrrrrrr.

Kali clenches his jaw.

You say 'You must fight it, sir.'

Kali says 'I may not be a wise scholar, but I am still a mage and one with fierce determination.'
Kali says 'I shall fight viciously.'

You say 'You are aware of the danger, unlike the others who succumbed without intent.'
You say 'This provides you with an additional defense.'
You say 'And you have Ilromie and the entirety of the Consortium behind you.'
You say 'We are not all fighters, but we each have power of our own.'

Kali agrees absolutely.

You say 'I have beseeched Lord Ceridwel and Lord Kedaleam to form a coalition among the Gods of Light in defense.'

Kali says 'Wisdom is as valuable as strength.'

You say 'And... perhaps this is only a dream... I seek to call to our allies beyond the veil, to fight the demons there and hold them back from the portals of Serin.'

Kali says 'Thank you my friend, I hope they hear your call.'

You nod.
You say 'Together, I hope, we will find our way back to peace.'
You sigh.
You say 'I must finish writing the letters to transmit beyond the veil.'
You say 'Do you know any you might call upon there?'

Kali agrees absolutely.
Kali says 'Oh.'
Kali shakes his head.

You nod.
You say 'Thank you for speaking with me, my friend.'

Kali says 'Thank you for speaking with me.'

You say 'I hold out the greatest hope for your trial, but no matter what happens... know there are many who will not lose faith in you.'

Kali says 'I have come this far.'
Kali says 'I have no intention on turning my back to the light now.'
Kali says 'The Great Tormentor can poke me, prod me, tear me asunder.'
Kali says 'But I shall never turn my back on the light.'

A messenger arrives and hands you a PUBLICATION.

To: All Immortal Kali Serra Ilromie Solmundi Hibbadibbity

Details in the event posting.

Office of the High Herald
*| The door to this room is partially blocked by a giant
|| bookshelf, the first of a dozen or so placed around the

| | || hidden by another large bookshelf, is a grand desk with
@-*-*| a tall and softly padded chair. A large soft rug fills

[Exits: north east]
You see 2 of a magic mushroom here.
You see 2 of a magical spring here.
A desk covered with soft leather rests here facing a window.
A glass cabinet is mounted above the desk containing a golden parchment.
(White Aura) Azerayhna the swamped herald maid is rushing around here.
(Charmed) A tiny wisp hovers here, shedding its essence as it bobs in the air.
Valindra the Sage of Arcane Power, Lore Keeper of Myth is here.
Azerayhna winks suggestively at you.
Azerayhna murmurs slyly 'Hey stranger, anything I can do for you?'
Azerayhna runs her tongue along her full lower lip.

You rest.

Valindra pants.

You bat your eyelashes.

Valindra says 'Doyenne!'

You say 'Yes, dear?'

Valindra relaxes a little.
Valindra says 'How is our defendant?'
Valindra says 'Tell me only as much as you're able.'

You say 'I believe he is bolstered. We discussed mostly demons. I told him about our research.'

Valindra fingers the outline of a gavel in one of her pouches longingly.
Valindra nods at you in agreement.

You say 'He provided some interesting hypotheses.'

Valindra says 'We have discovered much, only with more questions.'

Serra taps her chin thoughtfully.
You nod.
You say 'I asked him why elves seem so particularly susceptible.'
You say 'He listed their unique traits: immortality, purity, hubris...'

Valindra says 'What a unique perspective.'

You say 'And he posited two hypotheses. One: these traits (either alone or combined) lend to demonic temptation somehow.'
You say 'Two: These traits lend elves to particular scrutiny by the Gods, who themselves (at least one, we know of) favor the demons.'
You say 'And intentionally open the Elves to weakness.'

Valindra nods at you in agreement.
Valindra says 'Those sound like the same thing to me.'

You nod.
You say 'Two facets of the same peril.'

Valindra nods at you in agreement.
Valindra says 'Such a tight rope to walk. Lucky they are so delicate and sure footed.'

You chuckle politely.

Valindra says 'Until they are not.'
Valindra blinks her tiny, watery eyes.

You say 'Indeed.'
You say 'More letters... I do not know if I will write them all today. If not I shall leave them on your desk.'

<SCHOLAR> Serra: A humble request from Serin
To: Thoom

Dear Warmaster Thoom,

It has been some time since your heartbeat boomed across Serin, yet your
courage and strength are still emblazoned in my memory. Indeed, it is the
reason I write to you now, sir, beyond the veil. I am sorry to disturb your
well-earned rest, but Serin is in danger from throngs of demons waiting at
the portals. Several have broken through now, and more threaten to enter.
I sense the danger is too great for the mortals of Serin to fight alone, for
the greatest generation of Knights has since departed for Acadia and the
Castle still seeks to rebuild.

I seek allies both in Serin and in Acadia, if I can. Should this message
find you, I would beseech you and your mighty companions for your aid, this
one last time. I have sent similar missives to the Knights, Justices,
Keepers, and others I have known who have passed beyond the veil. I ask you
to help us divert the demons from the portals leading to Serin, at least
long enough that my colleagues and I may find a way to seal them
permanently.

Humbly yours,
Serra

---

<SCHOLAR> Serra: A call to duty
To: Justice

Justices of old,

Our time together was too fleeting, yet even with those few encounters I
could recognize the strong sense of duty within you. With my Lord
Kedaleam's blessing I have been tasked to be the spiritual advisor of the
Justices. I seek you now to ask whether you would take up arms one last
time to protect Serin, for our fair cities are under threat from an invasion
of demons which amass at the portals of Acadia.

If any of you are able and willing, I write also to the Warlords, Knights, and
others my sisters and I have known who have passed beyond the veil. Find
them, join together and draw the demons from the portals, until we have
found a way to seal them permanently.

Humbly yours,
Serra

---

<SCHOLAR> Serra: The call of Lord Ceridwel
To: Rhoa

Lady Executor, my friend,

I grieved to learn of your passing too late to bid farewell. I cannot know
what pain you suffered when you crossed the veil, and I am sorry to say I
have no news of the child you brought to the world then. Only a madman,
claiming to be your kin. I shall keep an eye out for any signs of your
child, that I may have the hope to pass on some of the tales and wisdom of
their mother.

Yet, I must scribe to you now with a different request indeed. I do not
know which part of Acadia you now reside, and whether you have sensed the
demons that have begun to amass there. The goblin fortune-teller Valindra
has scried an army waiting at the portals to Serin. A handful of
spirit-demons have already passed through, causing the downfall of several
Elves including ones you must have seen.

Furthermore, two new Immortals have ascended in Serin - your old nemesis
Dogran, and Commander Solmundi, once a Paladin following my own Lord
Kedaleam but who has turned his back upon the light. Facing the darkness
are only a scattering of young Squires and a single Knight without the guide
of an Executor. Lord Ceridwel has tasked Ilromie and I to watch out for
them until they mature, and one is growing into her boots now. Still, to
have these new, untried Squires facing a horde of demons plus the rebuilding
of the Legion Army is too great of a challenge, I fear. I beseech you to
join forces with any of our allies beyond the Veil you can find - Alkas,
Lumubella, the Justices, Warmaster Thoom, Darvaz, and others - to hold back
the tides of demons until we can close the portals. I also ask Lords
Ceridwel, Kedaleam and Phostan to form a coalition of Light against the
demons here in Serin. I pray it will be enough.

May this message find you well, my friend. I sorely miss your light in
these troubled times.

Warmly,
Serra

---

<HERALD> Valindra: A Letter
To: Gimbolin

Gimbol,

I have sought you across time and space, through Acadia, through a veil of
shredded blood carrot, through my own tears.

But now the need is great. A threat approaches Serin, and not even I can
discern the outcome in wind or flame. Will you help us marshal the troops
of Acadia? For perhaps all realms will fall if we do not act. And soon.

Yours, always,
Valindra

    [reply to Rhoa]
  4. I'd like to ask permission from the "dead in Acadia" to generate some content in the spirit of their characters. Don't want to go stepping on toes here. Anyone who'd like to be included reply Aye with your dead character and we'll do our best. :)
    1. HI GARDEN LADY!! Ayeeee
    2. This includes anyone I didn’t specifically list in note (friend or foe), if I ever interacted with you or there’s a log with you in it, I can work with it.
