[ 8]: [WARLORD] Tearea: Warlord-Keeper Alliance
Sun Nov 7 02:25:50 2021
To: Warlord Keeper Davairus Olyn
Greetings,
I write to you this day in regards to the alliance we have enjoyed recently.
It has fostered good will, and has been successful for the most part in
serving the purposes of both organizations as they currently stand. The drums
of war have sounded consistently since its inception, an outcome that has
brought pride to the halls. However, I do believe this has caused a bit of
stagnation of late and needs to be evaluated. It is my desire that our
organizations be brought under the same banner as our purposes are not
mutually exclusive and can be reconciled through reasoned discussion as well
as implementation of change. My first intention in writing this missive is
to gauge each of your thoughts on this subject whether you support or oppose
such a merger. This will be the basis for future discussions which I would
like to have in the near future. Please send a scroll as I have with your
support or opposition, and your reasons why you support or oppose it. I
look forward to your candor on this matter and will relish the opportunity
to exchange ideas regarding a merger.

[ 9]: [WARLORD] Szrevan: Alliance and Merging
Sun Nov 7 22:10:03 2021
To: Warlord Keeper Davairus Olyn Dragoncouncil
Hail!
Not that it would make a difference, but I do support the idea of a merger.
I believe we have a lot to learn from each other and will usher Serin into
the next era under one banner. With Legion being decimated, there is little
to no tyranny about. Yet the realms have been in turmoil before and will be
so once again. The temporary hiatus from War would serve a good window to
organize and re-organize our forces, for when tyrants of Serin climb for
power once again, we will be ready to de-throne them.
With Respect,
Szrevan
You ponder the question.
[[[Fenlorn travels to the underwater grotto to take council from Crisbin]]]
A serene underwater grotto
You find yourself in a mossy sunken grotto at the bottom of a small,
clear pool. The walls of the grotto are made curiously of the water of the
pool, which trembles but holds a firm circular form around you. A school of
fish drifts quietly by, serene in the night. A few tiny crabs scuttle
sideways out of the water to search for food between the flat rocks that
adorn the floor. An elliptical altar stands at the very center of the
grotto, with the sigil of Virgil engraved upon it. A small crystal prism at
the north edge of the altar glows with an innate light, splaying a soft
color spectrum across the altar's surface.
[Exits: up]
(White Aura) Crisbin the Steward of the Keepers stands watch patiently beside the altar.
You kneel at the altar.
You stand up from the altar.
You say to Crisbin 'Hello Crisbin. It's been some time since we've met.'
Fenlorn looks about the grotto nostalgically.
You ponder the question.
Crisbin wipes down the altar carefully with a handkerchief.
Fenlorn helps Crisbin to clean the altar.
Fenlorn says to Crisbin as they work 'This proposal from Tearea..it is intriguing, but I find myself conflicted.'
The night is about to end.
Crisbin looks around slyly, then skips around the altar.
You chuckle at his joke.
The day has begun.
You say to Crisbin 'The Warlords have been powerful allies, and have aided the Balance in many ways.'
The sun rises in the east.
<767/767hp 688/688m 494/494mv no opponent no opponent river (outside) calm>
Tearea tells you 'Greetings.'
You say to Crisbin 'But, I confess, I'm not certain their heart is set to upholding the Balance. I fear they only hear the call of War and find the pursuit of Threats to the Balance only a means to more War.'
You tell Tearea 'Hello Tearea.'
You say to Crisbin 'If we were to join, would it support the Balance, or dilute it?'
You ponder the question.
Tearea tells you 'Have you had a chance yet to peruse my scroll?'
Fenlorn shakes his head with uncertainty.
Fenlorn mutters 'I just don't know...'
You tell Tearea 'I have. I am reflecting upon it.'
A savage wind begins to blow, carrying the sounds of war.
[KEEPER] The Caretaker: 'A savage wind begins to blow, carrying the sounds of war.'
Fenlorn looks up to the sky.
You sigh.
You say 'And there it is, the horns of war.'
Tearea tells you 'I see. When you have reflected I am available to discuss it with you as well as share my other discussions.'
You say 'So frequently have they sounded...'
Lightning flashes in the sky.
You tell Tearea 'Alright then.'
You say to Crisbin 'And then there's Lord Olyn's offer. Am I ready to take up the mantel of Keepermaster? Have I earned it? I never could defeat Rhoa..'
You sigh.
The lightning has stopped.
The rain stopped.
You say to Crisbin 'But who else is there? The Fortress has been empty for so long.'
You sit down.
Fenlorn stares at the altar, his eyes unfocused.
The night has begun.
Fenlorn winces, almost imperceptibly, as memories of battles lost and won pass across his mind.
Fenlorn gives his head a little shake, rousing from his contemplation.
Fenlorn nods solemnly to himself.
Fenlorn mutters 'Yes..it must be so.'
You stand up.
You say to Crisbin 'I may be uncertain, but there is no other. Gerok and Mazin need guidance. In these times more than any.'
The night is about to end.
Lightning flashes in the sky.
You nod.
The day has begun.
Fenlorn pulls a mud-stained parchment from his pack and begins to write.

You nod.
You say to Crisbin 'Thank you for your ear, my friend. Now to discuss with Tearea her proposal. I may yet return to seek your guidance again.'
You tell Tearea 'I have taken the council I require. We may speak at your leisure.'
Tearea tells you 'Council? Let us meet somewhere to speak.'
You tell Tearea 'Yes, I needed to reflect on a great many things. Crisbin has kindly lent me his ear and I believe I have sorted my feelings. Let us meet. Do you have a preference?'
[[[Fenlorn travels to meet with Tearea]]]
Yimir's Foamy Beard
There is a subtle stench of dirty lizard that lingers beneath the stench
of dirty dwarves. New kegs have been installed along the wall, dispensing
foaming beer into waiting mugs. Along the opposite wall are rows of coffee
pots, most spewing steam. Soldiers pass in and out, drinking both beer and
coffee. Some are even mixing them in the same mug.
[Exits: south]
(Glowing) A bright, flickering spark hovers just above the ground here.
A swirl of glowing mist is coiled on the ground here.
Tearea the Red Lotus, Standard Bearer of Warlords is here.
A dwarf is stumbling around here, looking more drunk than the average dwarf.
(White Aura) A sturdy male dwarf is cleaning the glasses and plates around the room.
Yimir the Barkeep looks up from making coffee as you enter.
Flibble the drunkard says 'Letz ff-fiight. Yoo and mee.'
Yimir the Barkeep looks up from making coffee as you enter.
Fenlorn glances about the room.
Tearea waves at you cheerfully.
Fenlorn notices Tearea and walks over to join her at a table.
Tearea buys a bottle of firebreather.
Yimir the Barkeep says 'You ought to be checking out the priest of Darkhaven, if you haven't yet.'
Tearea gives you a bottle of firebreather.
You nod at Tearea.
Tearea sits down and thinks deeply.
You say to Tearea 'Thank you.'
Tearea says 'I think it will be helpful if I lay my thoughts out on the table.'
Fenlorn extends his hand for a shake.
Tearea says 'As I stated in my scroll, our purposes are not mutually exclusive.'
Tearea stops moving sinuously.
Fenlorn lowers his hand.
You nod.
Tearea offers you a handshake, type 'accept' to shake her hand.
You accept Tearea's handshake.
Fenlorn sits down at the table.
You sit down.
You say 'There has been some overlap of late.'
Tearea says 'During my discussion with Lord Olyn, I came up with two main unreconcilibles for such a merger. It is my belief that the Warlords have demonstrated their ability to mete out the dictates of the pendulum. I believe that the Keepers would be able to adhe.'
Tearea says 'The two sticking points being our ban on the use of magic, and your refusal to utilize powerful artifacts.'
You nod.
You say 'I have similar concerns.'
You say 'But please continue.'
Tearea says 'Lord Olyn and I discussed the opportunity for two separate factions under the same banner.'
Tearea says 'This seemed to be what he desires.'
Tearea says 'I can see my way forward with such a merger, however I also pointed out the opportunity for three factions.'
Fenlorn frowns slightly, a crease forming between his dirty eyebrows.
Tearea says 'Those who swear off magic, those who refuse to use powerful artifacts, and those who embrace both restrictions.'
You raise an eyebrow at the notion.
Tearea says 'Until we have sounded out the eight people involved in such decision making, everything is on the table.'
Tearea gestures with her open hand.
You nod.
Tearea says 'First we must determine who will be in support and the reasons why, and who will be in opposition and the reasons why.'
Tearea says 'Thus far those in support are myself, Szrevan, Lord Davairus and Lord Olyn.'
You are sober.
Tearea says 'Specifics can be determined and agreed upon once we have a majority.'
Tearea says 'What are your thoughts?'
You nod.
You say 'I thank you for laying out your position so clearly.'
You say 'First, I agree that every present member of our two Fortresses must have an opportunity to voice their opinions.'
Tearea nods.
You say 'However, I am not in agreement regarding multiple factions under the same banner. It may well work for the Consortium, but such an arrangement is not well suited to ones so steeped in combat.'
You say 'I'm not fond of half measures in general.'
Tearea sits down and thinks deeply.
Tearea says 'What would your vision be of such a situation, if I may ask?'
You say 'I think that if the two Fortresses are to combine, it should be a complete merger, with the ideals and values of both taken to heart.'
Tearea says 'My vision of a third faction, then?'
You say 'The Keepers would swear off the use of Magicks. The Warlords would stop using those powerful artifacts we mortals have no business with.'
You say 'Yes, in short.'
Tearea nods.
You say 'There are non now in the Fortress which have great need of Magicks. With the instruction of the Warlords I think we could make use of your abilities.'
You say 'Similarly, do you believe you really require such Artifacts to prove your prowess in combat?'
Tearea says 'I could do without them, if I had access to your armories.'
You say 'I can attest, buy way of many bloody noses, that your skill goes beyond mere armors.'
Tearea says 'There is one inherent flaw in such a vision, which Lord Olyn pointed out.'
You say 'I think I may know it, but please elaborate.'
Tearea says 'Tradionally Druids and mages have sought your halls.'
You nod.
You say 'Yes, that is it.'
You say 'And it is something I also have concerns of.'
Tearea says 'That is not the case now, but I believe it is his wish that they still be considered.'
You say 'However, how can it be appropriate to have Magick users flying the same banner as those who swear it off completely?'
Tearea says 'We may make considerations for communers, but I can see no hedging for casters.'
You say 'So dedicated is your oath that those whom would try to aid you with such are delivered pain instead.'
Tearea gestures with her hands.
Tearea says 'Its is more seeking advantages in combat that is the issue.'
You say 'Yes, I understand that you will accept restoratives.'
Tearea says 'Even considering communers would be a stretch.'
You say 'I agree.'
You say 'It would be unfortunate to leave those who walk their own path with no Cabal to seek.'
Tearea says 'My thoughts were to "grandfather in" as it were any current members of both organizations, and set rules for new members.'
You say 'But I can't see a way to integrate them.'
Tearea nods at you in agreement.
You drink firebreather from a bottle of firebreather.
Tearea says 'Hence Lord Olyn's idea of multiple factions.'
You say 'Multiple factions that still fly the same banner.'
Tearea agrees absolutely.
Tearea says 'And adhere to both ways of thinking, save for those two irreconcilables.'
You say 'It just strikes me as inappropriate and a ground to breed discord.'
Tearea says 'There will always be those unhappy with change.'
You say 'Of course.'
Tearea says 'Some will be left behind, others can be managed by a steady hand.'
an Immortal promotes you to the rank of Keepermaster.

You say 'As I said, I do not abide half measures.'
You say 'I would very much like to hear what the other Warlords have to say, so I may gauge their position.'
Tearea says 'I see. With so many opinions to be heard, compromise may be our best solution.'
You say 'Perhaps.'
You say 'Do you have more thoughts to discuss?'
Tearea says 'I would leave behind as few as possible with such a merger, save those who are in opposition without reason just to be difficult.'
Tearea shakes her head.
You nod.
Tearea says 'I have laid out my thoughts.'
Tearea says 'Now we wait to hear from Shaghroth and your comrades, I believe.'
You say 'I agree, in principle, with not leaving any behind that can be avoided.'
You say 'I shall write a scroll to respond and seek their opinions.'
Tearea nods.
You say 'Now I must speak with Lord Olyn myself.'
You stand up.
Tearea says 'If I may ask.'
You say 'Yes?'
Tearea says 'Please send a scroll with your thoughts to all involved, so we may have transparency.'
You say 'Yes, of course, that was my intent.'
Tearea says 'Its will be difficult to get everyone together at once.'
Tearea nods.
Tearea thanks you heartily.

Tearea says 'I appreciate your candor.'
Tearea accepts your handshake.
You say 'And I yours.'

Tearea nods.

[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Olyn : 'What do you think?'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'I'm conflicted, Lord.'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'I am no fan of half measures, generally.'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'And I am not certain that those who presently reside in the Warlord Fortress can or will uphold the needs of the Balance in their heart.'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'I believe that the collapse of the Legion is a terrible thing. Brought on in no small part by the Warlords.'
The sun slowly disappears in the west.
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'The Warlords have pursued Threats, yes, but I believe out of their devotion to War, not the Balance.'
The night has begun.
The rain stopped.
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Olyn : 'You are skeptical of their intent, then?'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'Not their intent so much, as their soul. They did not hear the cries of the Balance in their soul, or they would have sought it out, and not War.'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'So can they be expected to zealously uphold it, as we have?'
It starts to rain.
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Olyn : 'If such a thing were to happen, they would be subject to the Edicts as they are adopted.'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'Tearea spoke of some arrangement of factions under one banner, similar to the Consortium. I do not find this appealing. I can't see a satisfactory path there. How could those who swear off Magicks reliably fight along side the most powerful Magi?'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Olyn : 'I would think compromises would be part of the process, but there would be no room to wriggle out of the duty.'
The night is about to end.
Lightning flashes in the sky.
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'Compromises perhaps, but as I said before I'm not one for half measures. If we were to join, I think it should be fully and without exception.'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Olyn : 'My understanding is that they choose to forsake magics in a manner similar to how we forsake power armors.'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'Yes, that is my understanding as well.'
The day has begun.
The sun rises in the east.
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'We don't hunt down their users as a matter of course, only when they become Threats to the Balance. As the Warlords don't hunt down magick users.'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'But we also don't accept those who do use them into our Fortress.'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'Nor the Warlords those who use Magicks.'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'Were we to merge, I think both Oaths should be upheld. True that would leave Neutral Magi without a potential calling, but I don't see another satisfactory arrangement.'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Olyn : 'There would definitely be details to iron out. I don't think the Keepers or the Warlords are interested in losing identity. I think this is coming from a spirit of common goal and that commonality may be enough to build upon.'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'Perhaps so. I'm curious to hear the other members' feelings before a final conclusion is reached.'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Olyn : 'If the talks become serious, I will see about bringing in someone from the outside as an intermediary for policy negotiations.'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'That would be an excellent idea. Do you have anyone in mind?'
The sun slowly disappears in the west.
The night has begun.
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Olyn : 'Someone with no affiliation that has little to fear from Davairus or myself would be best. Perhaps Vevier?'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'Hm, I have not met her to my knowledge. Perhaps that is evidence she would be a good fit for the task.'
[KEEPER] Olyn : 'Excellent. Let us see what Gerok and Mazin have to say.'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'Very good. I must take some time to reflect on this now. I will return shortly to condense my thoughts into a scroll for those involved.'
[KEEPER] (Keepermaster) Fenlorn : 'My thanks once again for your wise guidance, and your faith and confidence in me.'
-==========================================================================-
1. To the Fortresses,
2.
3. I have reviewed Tearea's proposal, and spoken with her at length. And yet I
4. find myself conflicted.
5.
6. Truthfully, I have had a growing unease with our Alliance. Witnessing the
7. Crystal Skull being held because one member of the Legion had a Deathmark
8. upon them left a poor taste in my mouth. Further, seeing Warlords pursue
9. Threats to the Balance, though they have not pledged themselves to uphold it
10. as Keepers have, does not sit well with me either.
11.
12. The collapse of Legion is not something to be celebrated. The Balance
13. requires equal forces. Without their presence to counter the Knights,
14. those Knights will tend to expand their hunt for so-called 'evil' to deeper
15. corners of the lands. Even then to those who they deem to be aiding 'evil'
16. even if they themselves are not. Having received the Avenging Angel, I can
17. attest to this.
18.
19. I find there to be three satisfactory paths forward. Understand that the
20. status quo is not one of them, in my mind.
21.
22. First, we could indeed move forward with the complete merger of our
23. Fortresses. This would require a great deal of reflection for all of us.
24. We Keepers would need to council the Warlords in the ways of the Balance,
25. and they would need to swear off the use of those powerful artifacts as the
26. we have. Likewise, they should council us in the ways of War, and we would
27. refuse the further use of Magicks. There would be great adjustments and
28. sacrifices required from all of us.
29.
30. In speaking with Tearea there was some notion of 'factions' under one banner,
31. similar to the Consortium, with varying Oaths of Keeper and Warlord. I do
32. not support this. That may well work for those ascetic Philosophers, but I
33. don't believe it's well suited for those of us who are more combative in
34. nature and duty. I realize that the type of union I have proposed would
35. leave many Magi and Druids without a potential calling, and this is
36. unfortunate. However, I don't find it appropriate for them to be fighting
37. under the same banner as those who have sworn off the use of Magicks.
38. Similarly, for us Keepers to be fighting under the same Banner as those who
39. employ those artifacts that we find inappropriate for use by Mortals.
40.
41. Another option would be to modify the terms of our Alliance. The Keepers
42. could continue to exempt the Warlords from their effects on the Balance, if
43. the Warlords agree to cease invading other Cabals or capturing their relics.
44. Were a formal declaration of War to become warranted at some point, we could
45. re-evaluate the situation. They should also leave pursuits of Threats to
46. the Keepers. I don't like others fighting my battles, and I would think
47. the Warlords feel the same.
48.
49. Finally, we could dissolve the Alliance. Clearly this is the opposite of
50. what Tearea proposed, but if the other two options are not palatable, I
51. see no other option. The present domination of the Warlords has caused the
52. complete collapse of another Cabal, and the others are quite weak. We must
53. make some change to restore the Balance.
54.
55. As for my personal feelings. There are two things I would like to say to
56. start. First, though I have been granted the position of Keepermaster, these
57. are my personal feelings and I encourage Gerok and Mazin to express their
58. personal feelings without reservation or fear of offending me if they feel
59. differently. This is a difficult decision to grapple with and I would like
60. everyone to express themselves fully. I will not hold any grudges if others
61. disagree with me, nor will it color my opinion of them going forward. Second,
62. I am not one to employ half-measures. Whatever decision we should come to,
63. it should be adopted wholly and without exception. Trying to find some
64. strange middle ground to appease all will only weaken everyone in the end.
65.
66. Now for my thoughts. Unfortunately I feel that dissolving the Alliance is the
67. most uncomplicated path forward. I bear no ill will towards the Warlords, and
68. most of my dealings with them have been equitable and honorable. However, I'm
69. not sure that they can zealously serve the Balance as it deserves to be.
70. They did not feel it in themselves as we Keepers have, or they would have
71. followed it and not War. I think some of them may feel the same way about
72. us Keepers.
73.
74. That being said, if others feel different I would support a full and complete
75. merger of the two Fortresses. As I said above, this would require a great
76. deal of adjustment and soul-searching for all involved, but I think it can be
77. done. Lord Olyn mentioned that perhaps a new, unaffiliated party could help
78. us with this transition and I find that to be a very appealing notion. A
79. fresh perspective without all of the tanglings of past concerns could be a
80. great asset.
81.
82. A half measure of modifying the Alliance should be a last resort if another
83. agreement can't be come to. Again, I'm not one to employ half measures, but
84. the status quo cannot continue.
85.
86. These are my feelings. Gerok, Mazin, please share yours at your earliest
87. opportunity. And share them without reservation. I would like your honest
88. opinions. I call upon any Warlords who have not shared their opinions to do
89. so as well.
