  1. Look on the bright side. You got better at staff!!!

    1. This isn't a log, what it is, is a total waste of time, and an attempt to shame a player. If you are evil, and the Paladin's RP is to destroy evil, you should expect it.
      1. Bottom feeders should feel shame. Paladin's aren't shadows or thieves, evil with no morality, nor are they assassins. Even an eradicator should do better than this. Roleplay is required on AR. Other than seeing race and class on the who command, what justification is there for the attack? A vengeance paladin should have some reason that is explained and flashed out. Paladin's have RP restrictions because they are stronger than other classes. Dwarf Paladin's are the strongest race/class combo in the game at the moment. With the 15 or so players we have left I expect better than this.
      2. Dogran is right. Paladin sees drow shaman(one of the most evil race/class combos). What do you expect? "Hey drow evil shaman guy. My purpose it to destroy evil, but you already know this because I'm a paladin and you're an evil shit. I'm gonna attack you." The polar opposite existence(drow shaman vs paladin) of good and evil warrants that attack.
      3. I think from a paladin class we should really expect courage, heroics and honorable combat... neither of which are found by smoking people who are vulnerable. There's so much scrutiny on who Warlords challenge to a duel to the stun because it really isn't honorable to fight a weaker opponent with no challenge in it... I think having it preserved in a permanent record probably drives it home better than the paladin helpfile basically saying please

It's not paladins fault that some drow decides to afk on training dummy? "Hello sir, are you there yet? Still not responsive, ok I just wait here until you are done with afk training"
      5. still waiting for anyone to step forward and say they logged in specifically to be ganked that day.

Back in the day there was not a choice, you would have 2-3 people trying to gank a pool of 30+ players and most of them would form a group of 3 for safety in numbers. It was a ruckus, and it was hard to clean out PK with all the alliances, but that's a party that is long over.. at this point the playerbase is sparse enough that the nuisanced player will have no allies, but they can just log off, play later on when their pest is no longer around. And when they log off, the ganker logs off. we need to adapt or die.

The solution was actually posted and brushed off. A player posts pretty much they wanted better RP, meaning, some amount greater than zero, and we have three vets defending the lowbie ganker. everything Anath wrote is perfectly reasonable, one of you guys booed that, another yawned it. So my question is whether you guys can actually be trusted to RP with lowbies who might be newbie after seeing that, at all, or whether instead I am going to see one of you barreling into our next newbie with some bored fully trained level 20 evil after we told them to roll a healer for mapping and ID. i mean whats the difference? if good aligns will do it, we know evils will definitely do it. how about play less shitty, will that be ok ? Or would you like some incentives

I'm with Anath and Dav here. There ought to be a heightened level of RP expected from a paladin (it's called out in the help file after all). You don't have to be cheesy and announce your intentions but to just waltz in and attack someone training is lazy at best. An eradicator paladin has the most justification for doing something like this as I see them toeing the line morally to eradicate evil but that's not the situation here. And even then I'd still call attacking an evil training at a dummy lazy.

With regard to RP expectations I realize it's all subjective - good RP in my eyes may not be the same in yours. However, I think the absence of RP is fairly objective. From the few new players that have given AR a try in recent months and asked questions on Discord or the newbie channel it seems they come here seeking a good RP experience and to perhaps dabble in PK. Interactions like this will deter those newcomers.
      7. RP doesn't mean the paladin HAS to warn the drow shaman that an attack is coming. That COULD be part of it *if that is within the RP confines of how the player is playing the character* but it is not required. I agree with Dogran that this log is a nothingburger except the shaman's attempt at making the paladin look bad. A drow shaman (an advanced class/race combo and utterly evil) practicing in the Ford (also the sign of a vet) all adds up to the shaman should have seen this coming.
      8. Problem here is what I see is different than what you see I suppose. Would I log in and silent pk someone? No, have I silent Pked before? Absolutely I usually play evil characters and it doesn't make sense to warn your prey. Do I do it now? Not really, the chase is part of the fun, and I really like the interactions I sometimes get when I decide to kill someone. With that said, what I see here is someone tried to kill another person training at a dummy, a common practice, with the amount of people who afk train at them. Then, instead of posting any relevant information, attempts to fight back or interact after, anything they post a log with limited information. The name of the attacker and their timely escape. You don't know who the defender is, this clearly just a log to make the paladin look bad. Paladins should be held to a higher standard of roleplay I agree, but ultimately the unfortunate truth is, if you warn your pray they are more likely to run and log out, than they are to stay and fight. That is the real problem, this game is changing in that there is very little PK compared to what there used to be and the most active organization is the Herald/mystics by far, second only by the Warlords when all their members haven't just deleted.

My takeaway, if you have a problem with a paladin failing to roleplay write a note, don't post a log attempting to shame and call out the player.
      9. The whole point is that there was no interaction period. It’s a cheap shot at a gank on a non-afk person training.(fourth round would have killed me). Writing a note isn’t going to change this behavior, because it’s still commonplace. Public shaming might. Who knows. I do know that people who find enjoyment in picking low hanging fruit are the same people sucking the enjoyment out of the game for the other players. It adds no value, has no gamesmanship and only seeks to fuel what I imagine are gross self-flagellation sessions. Again, if it was an evil being evil, I’d have just picked up my ass and went home. Got ganked lower by a neutral or evil warrior while training, ended up having a meaningful interaction afterwards and even grouping up. This was just beyond the pale.
      10. Ok. If you were the paladin, what exactly, precisely, would you have done or said, prior to engaging this most terribly evil combination of a drow shaman?
        Enlighten us.
Have you not played a paladin before? Did you not attack at least one evil without a saying word first? Of course you did.
      11. In the end, the paladin saw a drow shaman(ffs it's one of the most inherently evil combos and deserves to be destroyed by the light) and tried to cleanse its soul. Like a paladin should. If the paladin wants to say hi I'm here to destroy you first, thats cool too. Either way, there is no problem.
You think secret service is going to tell the taliban hi there i'm here to stop you, then proceed to tackle them at the airport? No, they cut the shit, seek out the evil guy, and attack that mofo.
This is just pointless logboard drama imo.
      12. Sure drow shaman are evil. I'd like someone to make that determination based on interaction and observing the actions of the character involved. That thing called roleplay. Typing who and using that as justification for a gank is just pathetic.
      13. Have you not played a paladin before? Did you not attack at least one evil without a saying word first? Of course you did.
I am sure you are guilty of what you accuse.
      14. No, my last Paladin was a Knight. And I offered the oath before seeking out to destroy them. Redemption then murder.
      15. There's your problem: you're placing your expectations of "correct" behavior upon others based on your own playstyle and moral compass. You can't control other people, you can only control your own self. You'll be disappointed regularly if you expect people to act the way you think they should.
      16. Yeah, its a shame to expect roleplay in a roleplay required game. To have any consideration for the person across the internet from you. The prevailing sentiment seems to be that I shouldn't give a shit and accept behavior that prevents me from finding enjoyment in this game. High time to just pack it up and be done, You aren't wrong.
      17. This is RP being used as a fig leaf defense for griefing. silent ganking lowbies is cancer, with or without a twenty line background and character description.

There is an obvious difference between ganking some rando training on a scarecrow and getting yourself equipped to take on fully geared Legions

"Paladins are the embodiment of goodness. They are holy warriors, empowered
by the gods of Light to bring and safeguard goodness throughout the realm.
They are noted for their chivalry, kindness, generosity, mercy and honor.
A paladin is a pillar of Light for its followers to look towards."

that does not read anything like a shallow "him evil me good" genocidal ganker.

How much longer are you guys going to sit around saying paladins should genocide evils which is blatantly contradicting the advised roleplay in the paladin helpfile. I'm just looking at this thread and thinking, wow, for players who have triple digit level 50s between them, this is really dumb. Just being honest with you.

Assuming the paladin here is a Vengeance paladin, this is right from the Vengeance helpfile:

"Oath of VENGEANCE: A paladin that smites the wicked - one that fights the greater over the lesser evil if a choice is needed. Offer no mercy to sworn enemies, but also offer restitution to those who have been hurt by those enemies. Fated to eventually fight evil, whether they want to or not.
Note: Remember well this paladin's key goal is to *right wrongs*, not just tear around Serin beating up evils (which they also do)."

If we're going to quote helpfiles it is only fair to consider both. We literally have set up a flavor of Paladins - actually two if we include Eradicators - who as per the helpfiles are green-lit to stomp evil ass and ask questions later.
      20. Why do people act like sending them a tell to warn them your coming isn't an option? Do it in a way that makes for fun RP. I've done this across multiple characters. More than half the time, the player responds with equally awesome RP and we have at it. The other half of the time, the player doesn't respond so I go bash them (because you shouldn't be AFK scripting at a dummy), or they instantly get up and log. Whatever, I didn't want to fight someone who wasn't going to engage in RP anyway.

I did this with a vampire recently and had a great interaction/fight because of it. I encourage people to actually reach out with RP while people are dummy training if you intend to attack. More often than not, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
      21. Oxil: sort of. Eradicators I would say are in the class of eliminating all evil and possibly even bunching all evils together... But look at what it says in the very words you quoted on the oath of vengeance. "key goal is to *right wrongs* NOT just tear around Serin beating up evils" (emphasis on "NOT" mine)

Vengeance isn't just about beating up the bad guy. It's about revenge or striking back at somebody, and delivering justice.

As for Zyron's statement: I agree with the point about interaction. Part of the fun can be in seeing how people will react to you (or see how they act, conversely!). A long time ago, we had a character named Rheloth who was a drow DK in Justice. I remember him sometimes telling people before he fought them that he was coming for them... It was certainly one way to interact.
      22. i keep saying this isnt really about RP. this is a smurfing log. here is a hypothetical question - when you have had over twenty level 50s and ten previous paladins , why are you still bottom feeding? This was literally diagnosed on the first line of the log. does anyone think they are incorrect, or are they probably actually correct? . twerpalina you have also complained about lowbies being vets, beating your ass when you were trying out a new class. and then going saying paladin genocide evils (doesnt even agree with helpfile) is a fig leaf defense that is insulting to peoples intelligence of what is really going on. this is griefing. he isnt even level 40 to claim this is some gauntlet stuff. probably should just stop silent pk'ing with good aligns
      23. Problem solved.

    3. Oh my, I have seen a few more shameless things lately, but in this game you have to remember, other players are dicks.

Just be glad people stopped sacrificing all the items, that was frustrating.

Also I would only do this if you did something to that character previously, like full loot.
