[[Wylsin joins Ilromie and Avenar in conversation.]]

Poetry Corner
Large windows line one wall allowing the afternoon and setting sun to
shine down on a large wooden desk. Tossed carelessly across the desk are
books of poetry and stories, along with some loose papers with notes
scrawled on them. The walls are made of finished oak and lined with
numerous candles and oil lamps, giving the room a bright and cozy feel to
it.

[Exits: north up]
Many soft cushions lie here, permanently indented with the shape of treasured books.
A raspberry flan is here.
(White Aura) Ilromie the Arcane Archivist, Polymath of History is here.
Avenar the Oracle of the Stars is here.

Avenar says to you 'How do you feel, lately?'

You say to Avenar 'Well enough.'

Ilromie looks at you.

You say to Avenar 'Though I confess my mind feels put upon.'

Avenar says 'In...what way?'

You say 'I am confident it will pass in due course.'

You say 'Certain aspects of my consciousness are unfocused. I am having to put extra effort into those areas to keep them in an effective state.'

Avenar looks at Ilromie.

Ilromie looks at Avenar knowingly.

You raise your eyebrow at Ilromie.

Ilromie says 'Avenar has warned that the key is seeking Valindra, with a passion.'

Avenar says 'Even the sky is off...'

You nod.

Ilromie says 'An omen.'

Avenar says 'I'm concerned about the Book.'

You get The Kes Arcanum from a deflective pleated leather backpack of turning.

This object has a special use: [unlock][read]
An ancient book is here, glowing with otherworldly power.
It is a treasure made of leather and weighs 0 lbs.

Avenar says 'And the effect it may be having on...you and maybe the world at large.'

unlock kes
You lack the key to unlock the Kes Arcanum.

You say 'It is possible that my possession of the tome is related to the state of my consciousness.'

Avenar says 'I would say that is very possible.'

You say 'In any case, it seems readily apparent to me why the key seeks Valindra.'

Avenar says 'Oh?'

You say to Avenar 'Is it not to you?'

Ilromie says to you 'In fact, many of his revelations were granted unto him by his Lord, rather than earned through study and logic.'

You smirk at her saying.

Avenar says 'Well, I want you both to be on the lookout for anything out of the ordinary.'

You say to Avenar 'As ever.'

Avenar says 'Wylsin, that book has claimed its last two carriers.'

You are carrying:
(Glowing) (Humming) The Kes Arcanum
(Glowing) (Humming) a deflective silver-grey signet of defiance
a flask labelled 'Gyvel'
(Glowing) A Strythmas blessing
ornate robes adorned with jotun runes
a beautiful pink ribbon
a deflective pleated leather backpack of turning (open)
a bright orange Stryth-O-Ween candy bag (open)
(Magical) (Humming) a trinket of Lady Luck
(Magical) a sparkling peridot ring
a dragonblood pleated leather backpack of evisceration (closed)

Avenar says 'I do not doubt your abilities but it seemingly is quite dangerous.'

You say 'I don't intend to create a trifecta.'

You say 'I believe we are intent to destroy it.'

Ilromie nods in agreement.

Avenar says 'I know you have spoken about doing so previously.'

You say to Ilromie 'Do you have the fortitude to make a trek presently?'

Ilromie says 'Though the destruction of such knowledge runs counter to my chosen pillar, I agree.'

Ilromie says to you 'I do, provided we are not interrupted.'

You say 'Then let us not tarry.'

You say to Avenar 'Please excuse us, Oracle.'

[[The Abecedarian and the Polymath make their way into the Redhorne Volcano and prepare to enter the lava pit]]

You say 'As we are waiting, my plan is to send this to Denadlyr for further research. It will be far outside our grasp in his laboratory.'

You say 'I think the lava will aid in the transmission.'

Ilromie says 'You know best, my friend.'

Ilromie says 'I will be at your side, but this ritual sacrifice is yours.'

You say 'Do you have an inclination for a secondary plan should it resist being sent?'

Ilromie says 'If Denadlyr will not accept it and lava will not swallow it...'

Ilromie says 'A distant cell deep within Winter.'

Ilromie says 'We cannot risk allowing friend or foe to find it.'

Wylsin kneels in concentration.

A shimmering sphere of magic encases you.
A flaming salamander walks in.

Ilromie utters the words, 'mana shield'.
Ilromie is encased by a shimmering sphere of magic.

Lava Pit
The lake of magma is akin to dragon's breath, only ten times hotter.
This lake could instantly combust anything, of any material, save dragon
scale. In the air above the lake is written in fiery magical writing: My
spells will keep you alive, but not for long. You had better figure out how
to get out before then. The words slowly rotate around the chamber,
bouncing off the sheer walls that mark the edge of the lake. Every now and
then, a puff of white flame shoots up as another piece of matter is consumed
by this ever hungry beast.

[Exits: none]
(Glowing) A pedestal is here, where a training dummy can be inserted.
(Glowing) A very soft and hot lump of rock is affixed somehow to a circle of obsidian.
(White Aura) Ilromie the Arcane Archivist, Polymath of History is here.

A very soft and hot lump of rock is affixed somehow to a circle of obsidian.

You get The Kes Arcanum from a deflective pleated leather backpack of turning.

Wylsin closes his eyes and concentrates deeply.

Wylsin mutters 'Professor Denadlyr, please accept this artifact for your research. May its secrets remain in your domain.'

You drop The Kes Arcanum.

The Kes Arcanum is not an acceptable sacrifice.

Lava flows over the book, flaring brightly with orange flames but as it recedes, the book remains, unscathed.

Object 'book Kes Arcanum' is type treasure, material leather.
Extra flags: glow hum no_codex no_locate burn_proof.
Made to be held.
Weight is 0 lbs 8 ounces, value is 0, level is 50.

You frown disapprovingly.

Ilromie mutters 'You did ask kindly.'

Wylsin says in a clearer tone 'Professor Denadlyr, I implore you. Take this book!'

The Kes Arcanum is not an acceptable sacrifice.

You get The Kes Arcanum.

You say 'That is unfortunate.'

You say 'He will not accept it.'

Ilromie says 'Wait.'

You raise an eyebrow at the notion.

Ilromie says 'Things happen in threes.'

You nod.

You say 'An excellent observation.'

You drop The Kes Arcanum.

Denadlyr slowly fades into existence.

Denadlyr looks at The Kes Arcanum.

Wylsin says clearly and loudly into the sky 'Professor Denadlyr! Hear me, your most devoted student! The secrets contained in this tome are--'

You bow in respect at Denadlyr.

Wylsin kneels in the lava.

You say 'Professor, please.'

Denadlyr says 'You truly do not want what it contains?'

Ilromie bows respectfully.

You say 'I..I don't.'

Denadlyr gets The Kes Arcanum.

Denadlyr says 'Very well then. I will see how it may be destroyed.'

You say 'Thank you.'

Denadlyr says 'What chaos might reign...no, no, that cannot be.'

You say 'I hope one day to be worthy of the knowledge it contains, when I can stand in your study once again.'

Denadlyr says 'I hope for that as well.'

Denadlyr nods at you in agreement.

You say 'But as a mortal my soul is weak.'

Denadlyr chuckles politely.

Denadlyr says 'It's quite warm in here.'

Wylsin stands.

You say 'That it is, professor.'

Denadlyr says 'Away then, free yourself of burden and focus your mind again.'

Denadlyr leaves in a swirling mist.

You say 'I cannot thank you enough, professor.'

Wylsin staggers backwards.

Wylsin leans against the pedestal.

Wylsin says weakly 'I..I never thought...'

You bow your head in worship of your god.
Denadlyr grants you a little favor.
Reputation with Denadlyr increased by 1.
You receive 1 relic of <MYSTIC>.

Ilromie says 'I confess, I was not expecting him to answer your call so directly.'

You say 'Nor was I. I believe that is testament to the power of the Arcanum and am now eve more convinced that it is not for mortal minds.'

Ilromie says 'Shall we have a drink for the knowledge lost to us?'

You say 'Let us accept his tutelage and be away from here.'

You nod.

Something is interfering with your recalling abilities.

Ilromie chuckles politely.

Ilromie says 'There is but one way out of here.'

You say 'If we make it.'

You nod.

Ilromie offers you a handshake, type 'accept' to shake her hand.

You accept Ilromie's handshake.

The eastern edge of the forest
A steep incline of rock prevents you from moving further eastward. The
rock is unusually smooth, as though it were done by hand. The trees
surrounding you are as immense as the rest of the forest if not larger. As
you look closer, you notice small mysterious symbols etched around the base
of the enormous trees that border along the incline. What life was visible
before, have avoided this section of the woods.

[Exits: north south west]
A massive owl waits patiently for its next meal.

You can cast your fly spell again.

You tell your group 'I am safe.'

Ilromie tells the group 'I am in Thalos, safe as well.'
