Office of the High Herald
The door to this room is partially blocked by a giant bookshelf, the
first of a dozen or so placed around the walls of the room. In the center
of the mess and half hidden by another large bookshelf, is a grand desk with
a tall and softly padded chair. A large soft rug fills the floor of the
room, with a smaller mat intended for shoes, so that visitors won't track
mud all over the already cluttered floor. Two fine oaken doorways open to
the north and east.
A painting of the High Herald is hanging on the wall.
[Exits: north east]
A mirror is on the wall, shimmering with magic.
A desk covered with soft leather rests here facing a window.
A glass cabinet is mounted above the desk containing a golden parchment.
(Charmed) A vicious tanglevine snakes and writhes alongside its owner.
(White Aura) Halka the Grand Hierophant of the Forest, Annotator of Fundamental is here.
(Yellow Aura) Fralenn the Holy Matriarch of Healing, Chronicler of Literature is here.
Foggledonk the Sage of Arcane Power, Savant of Physical is here.
Wylsin the One-Eyed Wizard, Abecedarian of Arcane is here.
Ilromie enters the room.
The branches protecting Halka fall down to the ground.
Halka's aegis shimmers, then fades away.
Ilromie utters the words, 'oculoinfra uizug'.
Halka chants softly.
The wind picks up and begins to chase itself around Halka.
The wild magic stored in a HUGE cudgel reacts, producing smoke and sparks.
Halka chants softly.
Halka surrounds himself with a shell of tough oak branches.
Halka chants softly.
The barely audible hum within the room drops into silence.
The white aura around Halka fades.

Wylsin gallantly tips his hat to Ilromie.
Halka looks at Ilromie.
Halka smiles happily.
Wylsin says 'I believe we may begin. The Knights do not seem disposed to join.'
Wylsin steps in front of the fine leather-clad desk.
Wylsin says 'Thank you all for making the time to attend this service.'
Wylsin says 'I recognize that it is not a happy occasion, and the temptation to avoid the grief would be strong.'
A spotted owl flies in.
Foggledonk sniffles softly.
Wylsin says 'However, I would note that I believe Valindra herself would vociferously advocate for a suspension of grief and a focus upon the levity she brought to our lives.'
Ilromie says 'In fact, she would have basked in any sort of attention.'
Wylsin smirks at Ilromie's saying.
Wylsin says to Ilromie 'Quite right.'
Wylsin says 'In any case, we gather here today to pay final respects to our honored dead.'
Wylsin gestures towards the portrait over his shoulder.
Ilromie glances at the goblin in the painting.
Wylsin says 'At this time, I would like to open the floor to anyone who would wish to say whatever words may come to them.'
Wylsin steps off to the side of the desk.
Foggledonk gazes at Valindra's portrait longingly.
The branches protecting Halka fall down to the ground.
Foggledonk says 'I have written a poem for the departed.'
Ilromie smiles at Foggledonk.
Avenar stares directly into the eyes of the painting for a long while before turning away.
Wylsin says to Foggledonk 'Please.'
Wylsin smiles happily.
Fralenn says 'I did not know her long enough. But I am grateful I knew her as long as I did.'
Ilromie phases back into existence.
Foggledonk walks over to the desk.
Foggledonk stands on a leather covered desk.
Foggledonk clears his throat.
Foggledonk says 'Valindra, the witch with the goblin face.'
Foggledonk says 'A seer who was anything but commonplace.'
Foggledonk says 'Poetic Prognosticator, High Herald of Myth.'
Foggledonk says 'Friend to all, Master Wordsmith.'
Foggledonk says 'Embracing all subjects, both rousing and plain.'
Foggledonk says 'With grace you saw beyond the mundane.'
Foggledonk says 'Your impact on Serin cannot measured.'
Foggledonk says 'Every moment together, profoundly treasured.'
Foggledonk says 'Your fate was cruel, as fate can be.'
Foggledonk says 'A death nothing short of tragedy.'
Foggledonk says 'With no foresight of what was to come.'
Foggledonk says 'We are left behind, completely numb.'
Foggledonk says 'A tragic witch by many a name,'
Foggledonk says 'Your goblin face, a mask of fame.'
Foggledonk says 'In your presence we were spoiled rotten.'
Foggledonk says 'You may be gone but will not be forgotten.'
Foggledonk's tears begin to flow.
Wylsin gives Foggledonk and encouraging smile.
Avenar rests a hand on Foggledonk's shoulder.
Foggledonk says 'Goodbye, Valindra.'
Foggledonk steps down from the desk.
A soft buzz of words hangs in the air around Wylsin.
Wylsin bows his head in worship of Denadlyr.
Fralenn bows her head in worship of Vevier.
Ilromie claps her hands gently, pausing once to touch her face beneath her eye.
Wylsin politely and softly claps for Foggledonk's recitation.
You say 'That was moving.'
The consecrated earth at your feet returns to normal.
You say 'Thank you for sharing your thoughts.'
Foggledonk says to you 'Thank you.'
Wylsin looks about to the assembled.
Foggledonk steps off a leather covered desk.
Wylsin says 'Who would like to go next?'
Halka steps forward.
Halka speaks very slowly with the rustling of leaves 'I will always remember Valindra.....and Hibby climbing through.....my branches.'
Halka quickly cracks a smile and steps back.
Halka nods.
Foggledonk smiles at Halka.
Fralenn's skin returns to normal.
Ilromie steps up to the table and turns to face the group.
The barely audible hum within the room drops into silence.
Ilromie says 'I met Valindra first through her writing and found myself quite impressed. Such fondness lasted until I laid eyes upon her.'
Wylsin chuckles politely.
Ilromie says 'Gobbling my flan and contaminating my handkerchief.'
Ilromie pulled out a piece of silk and reveals an old, snotty handkerchief.
Ilromie says 'Which she returned in her parting letter.'
Halka's head returns to normal.
Ilromie grimaces painfully at the thought.
Ilromie says 'In time, I overcame such aversion and accepted the place she chose for me as part of her coven.'
Ilromie says 'It is just like that wicked little goblin to leave with such little warning, but I have prepared a eulogy of sorts.'
Ilromie pulls out a scroll and flattens it out in front of her.
Ilromie recites sadly 'How Valindra Left Home.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'There once was a goblin I knew.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Whose fame she never outgrew.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Her rhymes were sublime,'
Ilromie recites sadly 'And her whines were divine,'
Ilromie recites sadly 'But when she was due, she was through.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'But there was also a wisp named Hibbadibbity.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'It turns out that she was also one of three:'
Ilromie recites sadly 'The goblin facade,'
Ilromie recites sadly 'A witch in a card,'
Ilromie recites sadly 'And the one who devised the whole thing.'
Ilromie recites sadly ''Little Hibba' you say, 'how could she?''
Ilromie recites sadly ''A wisp of little power, fortunately.''
Ilromie recites sadly 'But all's written, here in this Tome.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'In the story of How Valindra Left Home.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Sit and harken now, to the Polymath of History.'
Ilromie taps the Ancient Tome of Scholars.
Ilromie recites sadly 'A goblin seeking wisps went looking afar.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Through a portal that someone had left ajar.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'To where a witch waited,'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Nigh on emaciated,'
Ilromie recites sadly 'So faded she resembled a twinkling star.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'She whispered sweetly and she coddled,'
Ilromie recites sadly 'So peaceful she even let herself be bottled.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Then just the next day.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'With almost no say,'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Valindra ate her mentor, then dawdled.'
Ilromie nods.
Ilromie recites sadly 'For there was another who must be beguiled.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'They were waddling there, as the details were styled.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Valindra wiped off her chins,'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Thought naught of her sins,'
Ilromie recites sadly 'And took another portal into the wild.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Olgarda the witch had many schemes of her own.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'She lived in a chalet of cookies, instead of stone.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'The goblin's welcome was her lapse.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'A blink, then in a Tarot trapped.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Her fate was tied to magic instead of flesh and bone.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'For the wisp, such control was not to last.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Each day the present bled ceaselessly to past.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Hibbadibbity forgot who she had been.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'And then Valindra added Gimbolin.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'For the crone, all sense of identity was smashed.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'In the end it was Olgarda who rose up and fought.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Who strived to possess what she aught not.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'She was banished, we hope.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'The dark Coven was broke.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'When we sent her to the Abyss to rot.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Left two of three in the power she formed.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'While the goblin's appetite turned to a dwarf.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'But little is written of what came after.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'What ran through that head as the goblin grew fatter.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Did the Banishing also a wisp transform?'
Ilromie recites sadly 'If not, then what is written is as clear as my chalice,'
Ilromie recites sadly 'For possession requires intention and malice.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'If Hibba's changed then she will fade,'
Ilromie recites sadly 'And we have two friends to farewell this day.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Otherwise, little one, your deception was callous.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'The books and stories include all three.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Attributed only to the one we could see.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Don't forget this old Myth.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Of the two who came with.'
Ilromie recites sadly 'Or you forget part of our friend, to a degree.'
Ilromie bows her head in a respectful bow.
Foggledonk claps at Ilromie's performance.
Wylsin gives another polite soft clap for Ilromie.
Foggledonk says to Ilromie 'Beautiful.'
Halka sofly claps. Branches rustling.
Avenar joins the applause with a soft smile.
Fralenn wipes her brow.
Ilromie says 'She is a difficult person to resolve into words.'
Wylsin chuckles politely.
Wylsin says 'That is quite an understatement.'
Wylsin says to Fralenn 'Would you like to say anything?'
Ilromie nods again, then steps away from the desk.
Fralenn nods.
Wylsin whispers something to Fralenn.
Wylsin coughs loudly.
Wylsin whispers something to Fralenn.
Fralenn stands on a leather covered desk.
Halka chants softly.
Fralenn says 'As I said, I did not know Valindra as long as any of you did.'
Halka's skin returns to normal.
Fralenn says 'But the Mystique is almost finished, and I intend to get it published, one way or another.'
Ilromie says 'The lack of a High Herald has never been an issue.'
Fralenn says 'I hope to do her justice by making sure I keep my promises to her.'
Fralenn says 'Most importantly... The one she failed to keep to me.'
Fralenn says 'Leaving Serin.'
Fralenn sobs in misery.
Wylsin comforts Fralenn.
Fralenn says 'She asked me to give her warning, see.'
Foggledonk comforts Fralenn.
Fralenn says 'Or let her know if anything would happen.'
Fralenn sobs in misery.
Wylsin bows his head in worship of Denadlyr.
A soft buzz of words hangs in the air around Wylsin.
Halka bows his head in worship of Olyn.
Fralenn says 'But now I have to press on.'
Fralenn says 'I hope I am worthy.'
Fralenn says 'And I hope Valindra will be happy with me once she sees me in the next world.'
Fralenn steps off a leather covered desk.
Wylsin smiles at Fralenn.
Wylsin looks to you.
Wylsin says to you 'Would you like to say anything, Oracle?'
Wylsin utters the words, 'oculoinfra uizug'.
You say 'I will.'
Avenar steps forward and walks around to the desk. There is no glow about his person. He looks mortal.
The barely audible hum within the room drops into silence.
Fralenn bows her head in worship of Vevier.
You say 'I am caught today in the midst of sadness and rage. And I do not feel either often or strongly.'
You say 'But there is a special kind of curse sometimes to the path I have chosen.'
You say 'To live on. And to know beyond today.'
You say 'It does not make this hurt any less.'
Ilromie utters the words, 'oculoinfra uizug'.
You say 'I have prepared some words which perhaps can convey a small token of my thoughts.'
You say 'What telling sorrow.'
You say 'Is gathered here.'
You say 'Thoughts bittersweet.'
You say 'And memories dear.'
You say 'A tribute to.'
You say 'A life of rhyme.'
You say 'A goblin gone.'
You say 'Before her time.'
You say 'She lived aloud.'
You say 'With souls inside.'
You say 'Among her friends.'
You say 'She would confide.'
You say 'A tragic tale.'
You say 'Of many curses.'
You say 'She would express.'
You say 'Through witch's verses.'
You say 'Few understood.'
You say 'The eyes of white.'
You say 'A battle tested.'
You say 'Mind of might.'
You say 'But through each kiss.'
You say 'And little caper.'
You say 'She lent her spirit.'
You say 'Now turned to vapor.'
You say 'This Herald's reign.'
You say 'Among the best.'
You say 'None shall forget.'
You say 'Queen of the Rest.'
You say 'Here memories are.'
You say 'The very air.'
You say 'The wisp essence.'
You say 'Everywhere.'
Avenar takes a step back from the desk and looks toward the painting.
You nod.
Wylsin smiles at you.
Wylsin says to you 'Thank you.'
Wylsin says 'I suppose that leaves me for last.'
Wylsin steps back in front of the desk.
Wylsin says 'I am not known for my poetic predispositions, therefore I shall reflect my remarks in a.'
Wylsin coughs loudly.
Wylsin says 'Excuse me.'
Ilromie chuckles politely.
Foggledonk snickers softly.
Wylsin says 'Reflect my remarks in a more expositional manner.'
Wylsin says 'I confess that I did not know Valindra well when I was welcomed into the Consortium.'
Wylsin says 'As it happens, I believe I had occupied the Towers for some time before I had occasion to meet her in person.'
Wylsin says 'Her presiding over the trial of Kaelric was my first extended interaction with her that I can recall.'
Wylsin says 'Anyone who witnessed that, or read the accounts thereof, can attest that it could not be described as a tame affair.'
Wylsin says 'Her abrupt departure midway through the trial only served to highlight her unpredictability.'
Ilromie chuckles politely.
Wylsin says 'As I became more familiar with her, however, her unique countenance began to grow upon me.'
Wylsin says 'Most of those here may well recall our many adventures, both uplifting and challenging.'
Wylsin unknowingly lifts his hand up to his missing eye.
Wylsin says 'Through it all, she and I grew to be steadfast friends.'
Wylsin says 'Her departure will forever leave behind a void in me, never to be filled.'
Wylsin says 'I will cherish her memory and will be forever grateful for what she brought to my life.'
Wylsin says 'Others may have hope to see her again in Acadia.'
Wylsin says 'I am rather certain that I will not venture there in the end.'
Wylsin says 'My path leads elsewhere, so the memory must suffice of those whom I have seen depart.'
Wylsin says 'I can only hope that others will be so lucky to know someone so unique.'
Wylsin sighs deeply and bows his head low.
Halka smiles happily.
Wylsin says in an undertone 'Farewell, little goblin.'
Wylsin steps away from the desk once more.
Foggledonk claps at Wylsin's performance.
Halka sighs contentedly.
Foggledonk comforts Wylsin.
Foggledonk says 'Beautifully said.'
Wylsin says 'Are there any closing remarks anyone would like to make?'
Wylsin looks about to those assembled.
Foggledonk says to you 'And your poem was most touching.'
Ilromie looks at the painting, pressing her lips together.
A loud clash of thunder can be heard in the skies overhead as Avenar closes his eyes for a long moment.
A soft buzz of words hangs in the air around Wylsin.
Wylsin bows his head in worship of Denadlyr.
Wylsin says 'In that case, we shall adjourn from here. Let us take refreshments in the Restaurant.'
Fralenn wipes her tears with a cloth.
Wylsin walks east.
Foggledonk walks east.
The painting of Valindra opens her mouth gaping wide and yells.
Valindra Skitterwit yells 'Shoo!'
Ilromie is blown out of the window.
Fralenn walks east.
Fralenn walks in.
Fralenn steps through the mirror and vanishes!
The painting of Valindra opens her mouth gaping wide and yells.
Valindra Skitterwit yells 'Shoo!'
Halka is blown out of the window.
A spotted owl flies east.
A large oil painting hangs behind the desk of the High Herald. Ornate
scrollwork and filigree decorate its frame, which manages to appear somehow
both heavy and delicate, as if carved from a single piece of wood. The
painting itself depicts two creatures: one an aging goblin with whitish hair
and eyes, the other a little wisp who perches upon the goblin's shoulder.
The goblin sits at a version of the desk that the portrait hangs behind, and
a smaller painting adorns that wall too (in every painting, a desk; behind
every desk, a painting). The artist seems to have captured its subjects'
preternatural auras, for sweeping brushstrokes convey a sense of mania
despite the studied nature of the pose.
The painting of Valindra opens her mouth gaping wide and yells.
Valindra Skitterwit yells 'Shoo!'
The Dragon Statue
The road is forced south suddenly here, dug around a towering statue of a
black dragon. The bypass heads south and then east. Taking advantage of
the statue's prominence, someone has set up a small shack with several large
carts lined up inside it.
[Exits: south west]
A sign is here, showing what services are offered.
There is a cart here, covered by a colorful cloth.
The cartmaster is sitting on a trade caravan.
This young girl looks happy to guide travelers along the roads.

A small time later...

Restaurant
This room is actually fairly small, since most people take their food out
and eat in the Main Hall or one of the other rooms. Even so, it is still
decorated richly, and a number of tables are available for those who wish to
eat right here. To the south is a counter where you may order food. You
can also see a set of swinging doors that leads to the kitchens. Several
loud curses occasionally drift in from that direction. One or two people
sit here eating, and there is a murmur of quiet conversation that is almost
drowned out by the raucous noise from the Main Hall. You can return to it
northwards.
[Exits: north south west]
A heavy oak table sits here, surrounded by eight chairs.
(Translucent) Ilromie the Arcane Archivist, Polymath of History is here.

Ilromie says 'If you should ever forget the shrill tone of her voice, there is always that.'
Wylsin walks in.
Foggledonk says 'I take comfort in it.'
Wylsin looks at a heavy oak table.
