You are affected by the following:
Favor: The Overlord's Favor: lasts for 21 hours
Spell: protection : modifies save vs spell by 1 for 18 hours
Spell: detect invis : lasts for 5 hours
Skill: unholy armor : modifies armor class by 60 permanently
Nothing up like shield or anything to negate AC, it's showing up like this.
[reply to ivindel]
But...your AC starts out a negative number, hits the "break-even" spot, then continues into the positives as you improve your armor class. So what you might see is that break even spot? But that doesn't seem right either because there's already 60 ac from unholy armor plus the base ac stats on what he's wearing.
[reply to Xenyar]
With the strong ways we have to regen the shield, its a bit more fair of a trade-off this way. Also invokers can literally damage themselves with mystic tendrils to gain loads of shield. I've played the invoker shield and really liked it.
Let me know how it goes with dark-knight. It will probably feel like a bit of nerf and thats ok. Just consider how that relates to gear choices and adjust accordingly

Davairus 0 , 0 , 0 . You probably wont always have bulwark up, so AC is still going to help. Also that unholy armor bonus still helps you vs bash (a lot). You can consider having more max hp instead of just fully invested in full armor. If you take that full AC approach its not going to help your bulwark shield. Remember taking shield damage and real damage isnt the same thing, if you wear hp items you would see a survivability increase with or without bulwark, but since bulwark is based on missing health, I think that your max hp would matter. Meaning it double dips on max hp. So that should be very powerful and justifies the AC passthru. You can weigh whether to bother exprimenting with that or alternatively get tons of damroll/more AC and not worry about maximizing effective health. Honestly is really personal taste. We all know 500 ac is crazy with or without bulwark Rothak 0 , 0 , 0 . The issue I see is that a dark-knights defenses aren't nearly as good as a fighter type such as warrior or even more so a monk. And I understand that since they are hybrids. But that also means their defenses aren't going to hold up and will take HP loss a lot more which then either flee and heal or continue the fight and bulwark up which then negates any AC at all. Example, I'm fighting and manage to get down to half health, I go fell spark some creatures or w/e, get my bulwark up to make up for the lacking hp. Now that I have bulwark up, it's going to drain a lot faster due to no AC and higher damage against it. I just think that between the lack of a DKN's defenses and the no AC when bulwark is applied is a bit much TBH. I understand there is a lot of effort and thought put into changes, and I don't always understand them because I don't know about the mechanics behind the game, I simply enjoy playing it is all. Thanks for everything the IMMs do, they don't get kudos enough for the hours put into making the game more balanced. I just don't necessarily agree with this one is all. Davairus 0 , 0 , 0 . Bulwark will be just as good vs spell damage, and I do not begrudge dark-knight at all having a way to run around "healing" from wraths and hellstreams, all spells cut right through all their AC and thats a big deal. VS fighters, that same situation looks cheesy. I think if the guy can actually mount enough damage to do it, its fine to be left able to hit hard vs bulwark. At that point your dark-knight could be thinking maybe he has no saves on, and blind him or something. They are not simply defenseless in this situation and they arent losing any hp Kalist19 0 , 0 , 0 . This bulwark change is a good idea and doesn’t seem like a huge nerf. Dks still have “bonus hp” and ability to “heal”.
[reply to Rothak]The amount of mana it costs to cast fell spark and abyssal bulwark need to reduced by 50%. Since there is no AC while bulwark is up, you will chop through that bulwark "bubble" very quickly, if not twice as quick.
So you're spending the same amount of mana, for half the returns. That's essentially double the price to use them.
If we are going to do this change, then I say get rid of bulwark completely and just give DK's cure light again.
Davairus 1 , 1 , 0 . Lets look at it after we see how well they fare against paladins post-patch. A couple things have needed to be done to enable paladins in their decided role will not fit the agenda of anyone who thinks Floyd Mayweather-like spanking of monstrously geared warriors while taking grazes on a shield is somehow a balanced class. If a DK can do that to a berserker Warlord, then don't even bother rolling paladins, because a paladin or healer will be literally a punching bag. I'm not saying this to just try discrediting anyone's achievements because it takes an elite player to figure out the META, but you might want to consider a shaman next time you want to roll a high level evil that can soak and sustain extremely well with efficient healing, and accept there is a reason why they don't get third attack or fireball or frenzy or extra defenses etc. Xaltor 1 , 0 , 0 . *Sheds a tear of validation from the grave* Erlwith 0 , 0 , 0 . I don't really like the nerf myself but I get why it was done and the logic is sound. Erlwith 1 , 0 , 0 . Just to clarify I would love to see bulwark scrapped all together and given vamp touch back. the spell in general seems messy. Merlandox 0 , 0 , 0 . Is bulwark really the problem against DKs? I would think unholy strength having low mana cost is more an issue than bulwark. Oh well. Davairus 0 , 0 , 0 . No the problem here is having entitlement. Just having the mindset one class can have the best offense in the game, the best defense in the game, and the best healing, will not get the game balanced. While we are all sitting around lamenting bulwark's loss of AC (its still free hp), people are playing rangers and barkskin is adding ONLY ac. Do rangers complain it doesnt add hp? No Xenyar 1 , 0 , 0 . That's an extremely aggressive statement. It's certainly not about entitlement. Not even sure where you pulled that one from. It's about a discussion on Abyssal bulwark. YOU are making it about so much more than that... and partly looks aimed at my Dk, with all due respect. Which is fine, I'm a big boy I've got thick skin Davio. Davairus 0 , 0 , 0 . The change simply gears bulwark toward absorbing spell damage (i.e. purposefully-driven to use vs afflictives which would otherwise get through the dark-knights heavy armor) . They don't *need* a catch-all patch over a dark-knight classes lower hp per level and in many cases, racial vulns. If you want your opponents to hit you softer then you can drop your blindness/poison etc and scare them onto save vs mal. As I mentioned, and I'm sure I've said it a lot, the dark-knight's intended to be a glass cannon kind of class. So they get high af melee damage with nearly all weapons + spell damage, fireballs, blindness, compulsion, unholy strength and so on (there are plenty others, but these are the high notes), but balanced vs a low defense. Especially melee defense. It may have been what your DK did but a Floyd Mayweather result was not necessarily the outcome the Immortals were looking for. Just think about that a while Xenyar. .. its a dark-knight. I guarantee you, as well, if I did make a dark-knight, its just boots to asses and full loots, really not caring about deaths at all.
Davairus 0 , 0 , 0 . I'll add, gaining cure light on patch sounds fine and was probably what we should've done in the first place, so I'll put this on the to-do list. We have a lot to do but that's very easy.
[reply to Xenyar]Anyway patches are good because you see an overall package of buff/nerf and it amounts to turning valves, don't overreact to one item. Like yeah. Its a nerf. You were not supposed to come out cheering for a nerf. Shamans are getting buffed.
So Dk's have the best offense, best defense, and best healing in the game? Is that what you are saying or am I just misunderstanding. Because they certainly don't. You play one and see how well you do. I wager average at best.
It's not about entitlement, It's about having discussion about the balance of abyssal bulwark, and you are going of the rails with your first response(read 5.1), and now bypassing any type of discussion(read your last post) and going straight to the word of entitlement(which is purposefully gas lighting). Get a grip dude.
Why don't you come up with something that can get a dark-knight going for the Forsaken of Legion spot, like, dark-knight geared cabal skills or something. Its been way too long since we had a dark-knight forsaken.
BlackWidow 0 , 0 , 0 . Xenyar... I think Dav means as in a maximum hp pool or extra hp to burn through before somebody dies. That said, I disagree with the assessment because barkskin has additional utility for elemental resistances (ginkgo in particular is nice against DKs for fire resistance), not just AC from using the default oak. Davairus 0 , 0 , 0 . The point was just nobody is ever saying a free 75 ac sucks.

This is your guys own April "how to fight a DK" guide. No mention of bulwark, why? I mean think about it. Can anybody explain why that doesn't get mentioned?
