(Translucent) (Pink Aura) (White Aura) Alkas the Grand Master of Seasons, Archon of Valour is here.

<694hp 352m 429mv 19980tnl>
Alkas rises back to his feet.

<694hp 352m 429mv 19980tnl>
You hit Alkas on the back of the head with a lead filled sack.
Alkas goes to sleep.

<694hp 352m 429mv 19980tnl> l alkas

Alkas looks less wobbly on his feet.

<694hp 352m 429mv 19980tnl>
Bright red hair spikes out from the top of this young mans head, swaying
and undulating in a way that seems to make the colors shift as if they were
living flame. Wrapped around his forehead he wears a simple leather band
that hides not only his hairline, but also the tip of his left ear. The
right must have slipped out, its pointed tip bearing the tell-tale signs of
his elven heritage. His eyes are a pale blue, the color of a frozen stream,
in almost paradoxical contradiction to the burning passion with which his
gaze moves about the room. His nose is relatively small and would be
nondescript if not for the bend to the right, a clear indication of the
mishap it befell sometime long past. Narrow shoulders lead to long arms and
end at rough and calloused hands. He moves about almost constantly, not
twitchy per se, but simply energetic. This same energy accompanies his
stride, as each step he seems on the verge of skipping away.
Alkas has a few scratches.

Alkas is using:

  1. Being able to hide so easily, set up tripwires, blackjack, steal a sack, a light, two rings, and two necklaces, while inside the damn cabal grounds is just stupid as hell. He fails blackjack a couple times before this but just instantly recalls when he does. Then rinse and repeat, with no real repercussions and nothing really that can be done to stop him from invading nonstop for forever until he steals all of your shit.

I'll admit, I tried camping by the aggro mobs so he couldn't blackjack, but that's dumb and didn't work because he just sits there with his thumb up his ass excitedly waiting for me to move away. Then I really didn't expect the tripwire inside the cabal, that seems dumb.

Neutral noncaballed halfling thief invading cabals and setting up tripwires. Real fun stuff.
    1. Fuck thieves. I share the same sentiments as you Alkas.
    2. I thought that hiding was impossible inside the cabal?

Also, the best thing a thief can pry from a monk is their prayer beads.
    3. it definitely is not impossible to hide inside the cabal. He was doing it just fine, in all of the different rooms even.
    4. Thieves hiding in indoor/city rooms seems OP.
    [reply to Alkas]
  2. Look at this as a flattering thing, I only ever bother with characters with crazy strong loadouts for my wee shenanigans.
That yell out at the end before you quit out, I laughed so hard.
    Thanks for that.
    1. I should have done it sooner. lol But i was trying to not be a pussy and log out even though I needed to quit out for real life reasons.
    [reply to Flinnegan]
  3. I get that its frustrating to get pried and that this post is a super-frustrated vent but someone needs to point out just wear your sack and put your rings/neck items into it.
Also if they sac requesteable items they go right back to the mob in a matter of hours so thats really not a big deal
    1. how do you put weapons into sack? They pry light and steal light. What's stopping them from prying sack? They can pry weapons off your wielded easily. So easily that i'm doubting it will even fail.

Are you hearing yourself dav? Your suggestion to prevent getting stolen is to put all your eq into your sack. I have an even better suggestion alkas, run to some corner of the realms, remove all drop all and wear your sack keeping nothing but purples inside your sack. With one sack and purples, you go into the fight naked. That sounds even more plausible because then truly you have nothing for them to steal. L O L.
    2. All those pk logs from you suggest you're really active with other players and put your rares to good use <insert name of person hoarding rares and avoiding player contact>, so I can understand your frustration at the chance of losing them.
    3. this is 100% effective. it's almost impossible to steal a worn about body. If im going to be fighting someone... like Yngfre. wear sack;put all sack. close sack. ez pz. stealing of rings and lights well thats just what a thief does. Also. Most thieves. (I don't have time to actually read the log) will not use a purple potion before they blackjack because there isnt enough time to quaff purple and still get the jump. So. thry will act without sanctuary. If you get lucky and can land a lag skill while they are unsanctuary....
    4. Lerimar you dont care about Alkas at all. He's a monk. He doesnt have weapons to put in sack. Its not even possible to go into the fight naked as you say.. that is because monks can tattoo themselves multiple times and they have stats on those tattoos. In fact it was originally considered to show those tattoos to do some of the best monk skills instead of covering them up with hit/dam items. think about that
    5. Hey I am not hoarding my shit. I am a Knight, I pk almost every time I log in.

Also I'll be completely honest, never even occured to me to wear the sack. Can't put rares inside of it, but that still is smart. I just never thought of it.

Also he sac'd gambled eq, which is just such a dick move.

Mostly it's just frustrating that a noncaballed, nonanathema, neutral thief is invading cabals and setting tripwires and hiding inside. Just seems like such an abuse
    6. Bladefury BANNED
      0 , 0 , 0 .
      Agreed ^
    7. Oh totally Alkas. But you and Trovo dunked me for anathema a few weeks ago, this was just an axe to grind.
    8. Flinnegan, you were anathema because you invaded multiple times and harassed valourians multiple times alongside evil players. You can justify continuous attacks because the Knights killed you all you want, it doesnt make you any less of a "neutral" thief. You claim you're doing your part by stealing from hoarding characters, but Trovo and Alkas fight every single time there is someone to fight. I personally have lost 3 con points alone from pk.

Why don't you just admit you're a fucking prick?
    9. @Flinnegan
Let's also just note that my VERY FIRST interaction with you was you invading the Castle. Fuck off with your victim mentality.
    10. Here's the establishment coming to tell me this is all my fault. Listen suit, just because you're in power doesn't mean you can dictate my day to day life, or punish me for living free.
    11. I got an idea! Let's all go break into someone's house and try to steal their shit then get upset that they want me dead or use deadly force against me. Because it ABSOLUTELY is not my fault that they hate me in this situation.
    12. Because personal possessions are more important than someones life. Life isn't all about material possessions. Share yours with me.
    13. Logboard is more entertaining than the actual steal
    14. I'm just trying to free all these people from the shackles of materialism, they just don't appreciate it.
    15. Hell yeah my shit's more important than someone else's life. I worked for it and the only way someone is going to steal my shit is if it's through my cold, dead fingers.

Also, when someone invades my home to steal my shit, they decided right there that my stuff is more important than their life.
    16. Also, I believe we've established that you're just a fuckin prick. So stop trying to justify your asshole behavior with being killed, because you invaded HOLY GROUNDS and attempted to kill a HOLY KNIGHT. From an rp standpoint, you are not neutral.
    17. I don't see how being a "THIEF class" is a good enough justification for a neutral thief to be aggressively stealing. Does being a "WARrior class" justify a neutral warrior to go around PKing others? To me, stealing items from another player is on the same level as PK/killing.
    18. Yeah, well, that's just like, your opinion, man.
    19. Ok so far in these posts we have the following suggestions:
      Make steal use 50% moves
Make tripwire only useable without adrenaline
Stop hide and tripwire working in cabal grounds
Using a thief to steal eq is equivalent to pking people and should cause outcasting (essentially what your suggesting reading between the lines).

All i can say is props to this thief because he is clearing doing his job perfectly. His job is to steal stuff, get away with it and cause utter rage. Sounds like he has it sorted.
    20. I have no issue with a thief stealing things and being good at it. What I have an issue with is anyone initiating violence or thievery on someone and then acting like a fucking victim when things turn on them. I am not suggesting that any action be taken to alter thief skills. I would just like to point out the fallacy of Flinnegan's arguments.

My only issue with this particular thief is that he attacked a militant group with zero justification and then decides to play the victim when he is killed as a result. He now has a grudge against the Knights because they killed him, but that wouldn't have happened in the first place if he didn't decide to: 1) invade the cabal 2) continuously attack and steal from Knights 3) Aid evil players in killing said Knights and become anathema.
    21. Its useful to identify pain points. A material cost on tripwires (like, having to buy the supplies to use them) might be a nice add. Same for picking locks. These would bite a halflings low weight limit.
    22. Haha, props to Flinnegan.

Trovo you do realize you’re still an active cabal leader, right? Probably should tone down the OOC rage a little.
    23. You do realize the log board isn't rp enforced, right?
    24. Eh, they go back and forth on it. Depends who is OOC raging I guess. I’m just trying to set a standard for cabal leaders to act better.

I like to think there are players out there that care about their characters enough to the point of not letting an OOC show have an affect in game.
    25. @Trovo: "Hell yeah my shit's more important than someone else's life."

You (player), I understand that. Hopefully your character (Executor of Valour, leader of Knights) doesn't carry that completely self-centered rage.
    26. I think its fine to express anger however as long as no harm is done
    27. Sure, sure, but for a cabal leader? I don’t know. Either way people are now going to compensate when they log in.
    28. You mean that Flinnegan and I are still going to be at odds when we see each other? I dont think this conversation nullifies the history of these two characters.

@Vhrael From an rp standpoint, Flinnegan attacked Sacred Ground and tried to steal from anointed Knights, continuously without any kind of provocation. If that doesn't warrant enemy of valour status, I dont know what does.
    29. No, that is not the point. Let’s say it’s not becoming. You’re missing the point entirely.
    30. Would you rather I out my character and express my distaste for this so that everyone knows who I am before my time has come? That seems in worse taste.
    31. Honestly, yeah.
    32. The correct method is to use idea and bug in game for discussions about mechanics.
    33. Alright, well you're welcome to do what you want when you're a cabal leader.
    34. Good....good....use your aggressive feelings boy, let the hate flow through you.
    35. You misspelled "I lack rp and let my true character influence how I interact in game."
    36. Trovo stole the rest of the world's salt, like I stole Alkas's stuff. There's none left for anyone else to be salty with.
    37. Jes gonner say it ain’t only Knights what Flinnegan’s after. Had meself some run-ins with the wee shite meself back when meself had a nice set, eh.
    38. Mikoos does have a point that some people may later be unable to keep their conflicts in-character. We'd call that "not being cut out for a cabal". But I would like to believe at least the players we have in cabals are not like that.

I can agree with this there needs to be more of a repercussion for failing skills. I vote no recall inside cabal grounds you have to run out of grounds first no hiding in grounds no tripwire in grounds. Failed pry causes 1.5-3 rounds of lag so they have to use aura or get 3 rounded instead of them just failing eating a little damage without burning through supplies. Like a failed berserk on a warrior the lag for that is retarded long.
    1. Everybody plays AR their own way. If somebody wants to play the cowardly, steal your shit and hide just to be as annoying as possible... Then they can.
It just means they are a piece of shit, overcompensating for a small pp.
    2. Do you also believe that every other class should lose their most important abilites within a cabal ground? Just wondering.
    3. Bladefury BANNED

      Well said xenyar well.said.
    4. no recall/hiding in grounds haha
Hey i wasnt the one who complained and complained until confine got removed
    5. a steal costs 50% of moves to use. Tripwire cannot be used with adrenaline. It's dumb for a thief to run around laying trip wire until blackjack cooldown to blackjack you and steal again. So with adrenaline they shdn't be allowed to lay that shit to stop people from chasing them.
    6. What makes a lot of sense is riding a nightmare stallion and getting tripwired. A damn horse should plow right through a tiny wire. And flying should fly you over it. meh...
    7. we have air tripwires because nycticora said 'its like the ewoks from return of the jedi' and there will always be air tripwires because of that
    8. ........and what about the mounted part?
    9. I wouldn't think a dark-knight stands the most to gain from that, because it would also benefit all of the Knights, i.e. ensures all of their foes stay better armored. Another thought though - who is to say the dark-knight isn't a class that the steal ability couldn't *also* belong on? The class theme is pain and suffering and this skill obviously brings it to the table in abundance. "Stealer" is in fact a dark-knight title as well. I wouldnt be surprised if they had it before and someone removed it

  5. a silver staff - from a large hydra, in Guardian's Room casts faerie fog. Non rare, easily obtainable. Use it.
    1. There's no need for monks like Alkas to use that because they have sense motion and gong. That comment seems out of place... Were you thinking Alkas was a paladin or something?
    2. The fog would last much longer versus flushing him out once.
    3. I also think faerie fog and faerie fire shouldn't have resistance checks. That will stop all the camouflage, hide etc etc and all other crap from having a get out of jail free card.
    4. Those suggestions are crazy but they are indicative of something that goes much deeper. Do you realize it, Merlandox? As you run around with all that pent-up anger you have, mindlessly playing an illusionist so OP that nobody stays logged in, does it still not occur to you why the thief skills are so reliable and easy. You're saying your OP illusionist should have a faerie fog that always works and looking like a retard. Remember when you were spamming wrath was OP? I know that is not a satisfactory answer for you but the fact you are even making suggestions that ridiculous tells me you aren't really interested in a good solution
    5. Why would u think i am making ridiculous suggestions? If i was the thief, i would be wearing a 100 save vs mal to go steal. Who's going to flush me out? Nobody that doesnt have a detect hidden skill. Flinnegan may or may not be doing that but i have experienced othernl thieves doing that in the past.

I'm not having pent up anger. I'm riding on others pent up anger to tell u thieves stealing shit for free is dumb. It has nothing to do with anything else. He steals a dragonscale ring, that is 4hrs gone from a winter run without him having any risk of dying to get the steal.

If a thief just wants to steal, he lays trip wire everywhere while he runs. If I'm not wrong, when u get tripwired blackjack hits easily. How do you chase and kill the thief? If you're telling me to track him so fast that he can lay tripwires I'll tell u its impossible. By making moves penalty per steal it'll limit the number of items he will try to steal instead of pry light pry neck pry ring pri wristlets and laugh at u.
    6. Maybe it the penalty should come from pry instead of steal.
    7. You're right, I shouldn't have said ridiculous. PREPOSTEROUS was the word I was looking for.
    [reply to Fionn]
  6. Thieves are frustrating. Normally you only lose eq when you die. Thieves who are completely incapable of killing you can take your eq. Which just leaves a bad taste in your mouth and is frustrating. I get it's part of the game though so idk. Making the rinse and repeat aspect of it a little harder on them seems fair imo.

I also genuinely feel like neutral halfling thieves are given a LOT of leeway on rp standards. Not just Flinnegan but all of them. Their rp is almost always "annoying asshole" which isn't something that would be allowed for most other characters. They also often blackjack and steal repeatedly from the same char, something that IMO borders on multikilling, which is a big bad offense against the rules, but is never even blinked at when a halfling thief does it. Granted it is different, they aren't killing anyone, but it feels similar to the victim I think.

The very nature of this game means that sometimes people are going to have fun at the expense of other people. This also means that some people are not going to have fun. But it is a give and take situation where everyone is afforded the chance to enjoy themselves, and even the "loser" can still have fun in the right circumstance. These thieves, imo, are the biggest aspect of the game where everyone is having absolutely no fun at all, except the thief themselves. It is the biggest detriment to communal fun in the entire game. Evidenced by the continued and repeated response on logboards.
I'd like to think that that isn't something the game creators would be proud of, but the Imms consistently defend the thieves with more voracity than I've ever seen them defend anyone/anything else.
    1. Seems a bit nutty that halfling thieves get racial legacies too. Do they really need help to be more annoying than they already are?
    2. You are mistaken thinking everyone isnt having fun. This thread is great fun. All because a gambled ring got sacced. I bet you already replaced them too
    3. I don't think it's about the gear. It's about being frustrated and not having fun. And maybe I am mistaken thinking everyone isn't having fun. But it is very clear that a great deal of people agree with me, if not everyone.

I just know that this same topic has come up a couple of times recently, and it's always turned into a big deal. Which means that it is a big deal. It's silly to suggest otherwise.
    4. This isn't a "big deal". This is just a flamefest. If we had a logboard wasteland we'd have chucked this thread in it. There's a load of drama and absurd suggestions we could never implement, heaped on top of what is primarily a vent. The sum of those parts is a smokescreen over anything rational. Someone saying "i'm gonna take my ball and go home" for instance is being unreasonable.
    [reply to hamsandwich]
  7. Oh my god. Alright. I’m starting a drinking game and Flinnegan you’re involved. Well actually any thieves. If you can make someone bitch (or preferably call you a fucking prick as little trovo here said.) about thieves then I will take a shot of vodka. Get too it.
      [reply to Mikoos]
    1. Honestly it makes me not want to play the game more than anything else. It's just a very lopsided and frustrating interaction. There's just not enough you can do to stop them, let alone get even. It's an interaction you will always lose, and they know it, and they behave in a way to needle and poke at you to make it feel even worse. I think it's that attitude that Trovo dislikes, and while his messages here are extreme, its a sentiment that isn't entirely misplaced.
      1. You were offered a compromise, which you rolled your eyes at. Pride goeth before the fall.
      [reply to Alkas]
    2. So I appreciate Flinnegan playing to the strengths of his character. I won't hate a thief for using steal anymore than a shaman for curse/blind, a zerker for bodyslam chains, a healer for healing, etc... I applaud flin for playing patiently and planning a fight the way he wanted it to go.

I also think that hiding in a cabal should be 100 times harder than hiding elsewhere if possible at all. I also think the multi tool that is a thief is very diverse and easy to deploy currently. Was shocked as hell when I ended up with 8 hours of silence, for example.
      1. Fygh did you have the pleasure of playing against a thief when they had gag?
      2. Don't they still have it? I was under the impression thats the reason I was silenced. It really is brutal for someone who is rendered absolutely useless with it.
      3. Garv
        1 , 0 , 0 .
Kind of like when you're terrained and misdirected you mean?
      4. fygh you were poisoned
      5. Oh btw guys, you can hide in cabal but if you duel in the arena (ford) and you ran all the way to the keeper's cabal, you cant hide in there. It seems the arena is more protected than cabam grounds. Lol!
      6. Poison, interesting.

Garv, with misdirection and terrain you can still fight. I have won with those two affects active more than once. As a caster, you literally can't fight with silence. You just run and hope that you can lose them or have enough moves to outrun them.
      7. Silence? Sounds to me like somebody drugged you (thieves have a skill called "drug other").
      [reply to Fygh]
    3. So if hide and camo is disabled in the arena it should also be disabled in cabals. Just my 2 cents.
      1. Jaran its time to update your list!
      2. Just going to mention that I have not been on the receiving end of cabal hiding or any shit like that. Just seems silly to be able to hide in enemy cabals. Where are they going to hide, there is nothing in them!
      3. Consider six months from now, when this thread has blown over, and you're thinking of making a ninja Legion coz Ygin was cool back in the day. Well guess what ! You can't hide in cabals. Sorry! Like, I get you mean well, but this is some knee-jerk shit by any measure
      4. Bladefury BANNED

Besides its your cabal you know every inch of it so they can't hide anyway
      5. Bladefurry never played hide and seek as a child, based off this statement.
      [reply to Nadrin]
    4. Ok adding to the list:
      No hiding/camo in arena duels
      Make steal use 50% moves
Make tripwire only useable without adrenaline
Stop hide and tripwire working in cabal grounds
Using a thief to steal eq is equivalent to pking people and should cause outcasting (essentially what your suggesting reading between the lines)
      1. Forgot one more thing:

faerie fog and faerie fire shouldn't have resistance checks
      [reply to jaran]
    5. I think thieves should get Hellstream, not get nerfed.
      1. sidestep is better though. same damage no saves
      [reply to Kedaleam]
    6. I think if any changes to thieves are done, it should be alongside the thief Pathways that we never got several years ago. I don't know if you're actually being serious about the changes or not though, but I can see there are a lot of awesome and interesting potential changes that could happen from such a thing as a pathway for thieves.

      Cheap shot

      Drug other

      Hook shot

      Disguise

If tripwire is going to require materials to use, I think enchanting and other popular spells like Heaven's Gate or gate should have materials required.
      1. maybe half-serious but sometimes a good idea comes out of being half-serious. i feel like DK getting steal could be legit good change. lets them partner with thief to improve both peoples game (adds invis and detect invis). it follows to add faerie fire to the DK for even better thief synergy. anyway i'm rambling on. But we will definitely do the pathways for thief down the road
      2. Fucking shit people, stop with the fucking specs, cant we leave SOME of the classes as they were?
      3. Heaven's gate already requires building three levels of divine power (max). I don't think collecting a bunch of rocks to build an actual gate would be helpful.
      4. I like this

        You rock Flin
      5. I LOVE DK's but... Between Eurayel and Euriah(my paladin from yrs ago.).... DK>Paladin in soooo many ways. Unholy strength is easy-peasy upkeep. Paladin damage buff upkeep is, at best, half ass in comparison... reduced parry..losing time/mana to heal yourself from divine sac. I'm not saying nerf DK. I'm saying maybe give Pally something nice instead of DK. Don't give dk's steal too.

Anyway....Maybe give blackjack a very slight wind up lag?
      6. maybe cure light on the lawful dk, steal on the chaotic, and the nightmare casting faerie fire. altogether it works I think. I'm not putting a lot of thought into that right now, just musing.
Paladins are actively being worked on, which includes a lot of recent changes that have helped them out a lot. They have gotten quite a bit better over the last two months already
      7. Thanks Arunore. Always glad to see people who appreciate my art.

    7. holy fuck retards

just sit in a closable room (preferably no_pass and lockable with key that you have, something like crevice in tainted) and the thief can never initiate on you...

So much fucking QQ, I'd expect EXECUTOR and ARCHON ranked people to know better
      1. I agree with this sentiment mostly, but there is a 5%-15% factor of "ooo that really sucked" which exists even in my black heart. Its because the gambled item cost hundreds of thousands (sometimes into millions) of gold. The system will currently allow you to pry the item, but then it would slip from your fingers because of alignment, and then you'd just sac it because you can't use it (quite ruthless IMO).

        <708hp 360m 439mv 19980tnl> pry claddagh alkas
        Got it!
You lack the moral conviction to hold a dragonblood mithril-white claddagh of evisceration and drop it.
        <708hp 360m 439mv 19980tnl>
        sac clad
        <708hp 360m 439mv 19980tnl>
The Overlord gives you 12 gold coins for your sacrifice.

That is not an opal ring (definitely wouldnt get pried). or a heavy black dragon scale ring (definitely wouldnt get sacced). Its an in-between. I know we all like high stakes but I think the "fun" far exceeds the "anti-fun" for the level 50 evermore gamble items. These items could never have been foreseen when pry was created. I think it is worth thinking about something different for pry/steals for this gambled eq.
Its the same going for sacks. Sacks used to be just potions, you would put in your raft and it becomes so heavy and annoying to steal its not that worth it. They are now just as easy to steal and full of tons of evermore shit. That seems a bit... cheesy? Inventory weapons are as important as the wielded weapons because of combat styles bullshit as well. That was not in the design of pry either. Happy to do something about these scenarios.
