Title: the Grand Spectre of Beguilement
Gender: Male
Level: 50
Class: quasit illusionist

Background history:

Description:

This statue of a jackal faced demon is gray in color with a few darker specs and not much larger than a gnome. Bat-like wings carved on the back are close to the body but very detailed with knots of bound muscle. The round gray eyes have chiseled pupils top to bottom like a cat. This level of detail continues with a textured face and body to appear like hair. This gargoyle looks like an oversized demonic vampire bat.

    Legion got me.

Crossed to many demons and they drug me back to the underworld, a place a was only too happy to escape.

Ashamed to admit english is my first language. I was happy to escape, I.

        1. Well this was unexpected. You attempted your revenge, paid for it, then became a vessel, before deleting?

Yep, didn't even master dispel magic if that tells you anything. Fairly sure I had mercy set.
          2. Makes me sad, would have been more fun to play alongside you more.

Don't be sad I can make an aggressive illusionist if you want, but every time I tune up an illusionist, the whole class gets tuned down

Biggest disappointment was that pain set. It had not occurred to me that mirrors no longer attacked, so I thought could I buff the mirrors, then ideally change sets. Creating hard hitting mirrors. Etheath would haste and enlarge the mirrors, so yes I ruined it.

The pain set requires the mace and it is too heavy for a gargoyle. Not even religion helps you avoid the mace, so start there, don't end their like I did expecting it to be the easiest piece.

What I learned, mirrors properly mirror, you change sets, they change with you, so the pain set was probably a bust.

Forgetting duplicates pisses me off. I should not rely on memory, old school some uniques that can no longer be memorable.

Still my favorite class because of gate, even if it has also been diluted.

Grayden this is not intended as a taunt, so please do not take it that way, but I have never felt terribly inclined to nerf their offense or ability to gate at all based on your play. Like, this latest guy is 0-29. It is what it is. Your RP is really quite stellar, nobody can take that away from you, but you do have a habit of getting taken by surprise and then brutally ass kicked in a couple rounds.... your illusionists aren't going to get the gear needed to become full power this way, and between having shadowform and pass door it makes no sense how much time you spend sleeping with the fishes. Also, just look at what you wrote in that recent reply, you're talking about getting a full damroll suit on an illusionist. Even if the mirrors had been able to punch for mangles, this would've likely sucked. Why? Because dreamstruck goes off hitroll.

Overall I think illusionists always scared people because of the duplicates doing dirt and bash, or tons of damage. I would venture guess that nobody has ever bothered to check on the ratio of duplicate to illusionist damage but I think its obviously a much greater than a 25% damage increase for every duplicate right now. It seems like the class issue is having all its eggs in one basket and it would be better instead if having all these duplicates would have different affects on the illusionist themselves. like. increasing spell damage if you got mage duplicates or decrease the damage taken if your duplicates are tanks. Like imagine your colour spray damage is increased by 15% per battlemage duplicate while your damage taken was reduced by 15% per "tough guard" or triton watchman dupe. At a 45% damage increase that would really become quite nasty on the spell side, and at 45% damage reduction you would have fewer problems tanking a berserker, and you could tweak to taste, maybe we could think of extra effects for the unique mobs like becoming immune to cold damage if you have a Xavier. Maybe being immune to dirt kick could be worked in there if you got slith fisherman. this was the point of grandeur but if memory serves, it doesn't do anything nearly that significant. anyway, blah, just blurting thoughts out.

Also, looking specifically at your playstyle Grayden, what I think would be useful to you as an illusionist specifically is if there was something capping the max damage you can take, capping any damage taken at mangles or so. something that isn't enough to stop you from needing sanc but gives paladins a harder time whereas right now they can just trivially wrath you for obliterates and slap you with a slashing polearm for demolishes. we have something like that on monk drunken style so there's precedent.

I agree using an illithid and losing all your life in a round from slash damage is brutal, but I always saw this class as a glass canon. Taking away that vulnerability seems extreme.

Speaking to play styles, most those deaths were me exploring and pushing the limits, like staying in a fight if both me and the mob are about to die. I stopped really trying to kill people a while back, because we then boil down our player base to this sticky tough mess.

The aggressive Bard I made as a punching bag probably took a record number of deaths picking fights because it was all in fun. I will say throwing cards had potential for killing so I stuck to uppercuts.

No worries, I still enjoy the game and there are a few mysteries left.

A quasit shaman cannot use the pain set because they are not strong enough for the mace. A pixie cannot shrink the mace because it is iron, so remove the stupid weight restriction, give shrink to quasits or have a shop that can shrink weapons with stolen fey magic. And all random class thoughts welcomed.
            3. "I stopped really trying to kill people a while back, because we then boil down our player base..."

It's a RP/PK mud. Pbase hasn't dwindled due to it being a PK mud. Personally, I'd love to see you become competitive in PK. More good fights, the better imo.

When mirrors assisted I’d be playing kaelric in a group with 2 invokers and 2 warlords and I’d regularly land more kills on watchers than all 4 of the other guys combined. It was a fun little game we played. Mirrors were nuts when added on top of hasted enlarged dupes and ill. That glass door is awesome. Never once found razor strings useful tho.

I have interacted this char and thought he was really cool Grayden

Any objections to me cross posting this over to the illusionist think tank thread? I feel like there are assume common underlying points Dav just made to what is in there but with very different proposals on what to do. I would love to discuss more without flooding Dirnenak's graveyard thread.

I have no objection to posting ideas for illusionists here but I have also posted ideas there.

Here is a fun question, what if you take some much damage in a round you slip into the ethereal realm and a broken mirror corpse is left behind, like a false death spell must active.

That would create a weird dynamic where you want to really hurt the illusionist but not too much, lol.

I don't mind if you cross post it but there is a world of difference between trying to mix things up a little to keep the game feeling fresh and then taking care of things which are huge turn offs. Someone complaining on board after they get pk'ed doesn't really carry the same clout as literally deleting over it. I don't think parts of the game which cause frustration deletes are things to postpone to the next patch, with ETA somewhere between soon and never. Sometimes players attempt manipulative deletes and that behavior need to be called out by the community, but generally I think its better to address whatever makes a player feel angry enough to delete in some kind of appropriate and respectful time frame.

To clarify - this was not a rage delete or delete from frustration, I was dragging Legion cabal item deeper into the faction of blood because I was angry for being summoned out if the faction of magic. Zatoke did a great job fouling my plan so I wanted Zatoke to get credit for making me a vessel, but after trying to deep 6 the legion item I had to ask, what am I doing.

It was time to let this quasit go.

          2. Oh no! Another friend and like minded soul gone. I always enjoyed our conversations! I was hoping to officially publish some of your research! I'll still strive to pull some of the threads you showed me and see if I can't unravel something. Farewell!

@Trillian I love your character, because you doing research is similar to me testing ideas. It also helps my paranoia to know other people can for example no longer gate to certain creatures. I get weird paranoia the gods are messing with me but I doubt they have time for that.

Oh and I learned you cannot shrink items on the ground.
            3. Such flattery is enough for me to go public with one of my greatest research secrets! The God's have seen fit to numerically index the creatures of Serin. You can gate to them by number instead of by name. I have been cataloging them slowly. Rest assured my departed friend, you are not alone. There are a very large number of creatures in the realm that you cannot gate to.
