The Creation of Jatahiem
In a hot cave within a volcano, there was a tiny, winged figure laid upon a small pedestal engraved with glyphs. Parchment and vials had been carelessly tossed around jars of organs suspended in liquid on a stone table. An old, wiry man scurries about, feverishly gathering materials from about the cave. A series of vials had been connected with curved tubes and two small fires positioned along the path. The spry man chanted as he stirred a mixture, the vapors traveling along the tubes toward a concentrated point, which then drips into a syringe. With a nervous look, the man takes the concoction to the figure, the air becoming thick as his chanting continues. He releases the liquid onto the figure, which is instantly absorbed. Steam begins rising from the tiny figure, a small twitch of a wing, its arms begin to move, it slowly begins to stretch. Its eyes open and it stands, looking at the old man, but then had noticed its bat-like wings and began testing their movement. With a strong motion, it lifted itself into the air and chuckled with glee. The man shared in the excitement, loudly exclaming, "Jata liem!" The creature looked at the man, "Jata hiem," it quietly said. The man suddenly became silent, the color draining from his face, and stared in stunned disbelief. The creature spoke again, "Jata hiem." The man was frozen, unable to breathe but for three barely audible words, "It can talk." His body then collapsed to the ground, the shock of his work speaking was more than his heart could take. Some days passed and the creature's hunger was enough to drive it from the cave in search of food. Successfully finding fruits and plants to survive on, with the occassional upset stomach and body chills, the creature came across the most sweetest of treats it had ever known. Completely lost in utter bliss, it had failed to notice a gathering of buzzing fliers going right toward him. It was at the very last moment that it caught a yellow thing out the corner of its eyes and avoided a blow. It bolted straight up and saw a massive swarm of these things going right for it, clearly defending the sticky liquid. Panicked and driven purely on instinct, the creature conjured a ball of air and blasted the swarm away. Imbued with power, adrenaline overflowing, lightning and flame began dancing about its body. Feeling the power swell, it concentrated the energy to its hands, ready to release it upon the yellow, winged things, but suddenly found itself in a bottle. "He did it again, did he?" Said a creature similar to the odd one it saw upon its first breath, but this one was covered in nets. "Di gen he," the creature said with a tiny snarl, flames dancing across its hands. The human's jaw went slack, then gathered himself and immediately ran toward a nearby building. Moving forcefully through the door, he began speaking excitedly with another of his kind. While doing so, they began packing supplies and loading a wagon. Though the sun was setting, they struck out, lanterns ready to be lit to travel through the night. The afternoon of the following day, they rode through giant gates, along busy streets, structures the likes of which the creature had never seen. The two eventually parked the wagon and brought the bottled creature to a robed man, explaining what they had witnessed. The man was mildly intrigued, but it wasn't until he had learned it was capable of speaking did he become invested. Bringing the bottle closer to his face, he looked amusingly at the creature. "I wonder what we shall name him," he said to himself. Sensing the man's jovialness, the creature relaxed its face and said in a curious tone, "jata hiem." The man laughed as he removed the lid of the bottle, "Jatahiem! So, he has named himself. Come, Jatahiem! Let us see what we can do!" Jatahiem in turn smiled, climbed out of the bottle, stretched his wings and began hovering around the man. "Jatahiem," the creature said in a tiny, grovelled voice and gave a small flash from his entire body. So began his Invoker

Description:

A tiny, winged creature hovers in the air. The wings move so fast, barely a glimpse can be seen of their bat-like appearance. Curved, deep red horns with blackened tips form around his sharply angled head. Sharp claws come from the tips of the three fingers on each hand and three toes from each foot. Thick hair covers his hips and upper legs, as well as his chest and shoulders. A curled tail grows from the bottom of his back with a wiry tuft of hair on the tip.
