'ARMOR CLASS AC' Armor Class is a rating for the protective value of a type of armor. The lower the armor class, the more vulnerable a character is to attack. Pierce, bash, slash and magic armor each provide protection from a different types of attack. Armor class starts at -100 for a naked level 1 character. An armor class below zero means that additional damage is taken. There is damage reduction component of armor, and a missing attacks component. Damage reduction (%) = Your armor divided by 1600 Chance to be struck (%) = 100 - armor class/2 + class-based/various factors Various other factors combine, adding 5%, 10% or sometimes more to the hit chance: Effects due to your armor class being modified: - sleeping, or simply not being in combat - a modifier for the particular class you chose (e.g. mages get hit easier) - dexterity - being unable to see your target (e.g. blinded, in the dark) Effects due to your specific opponent: - they are dual wielding - opponent's hitroll - opponent's weapon proficiency - opponent's level (this factor explodes after level 32) There are also slot multipliers for armor class, meaning the armor bonus is enhanced: Slot Light Medium Heavy ==== ===== ====== ===== torso 2 3 4 helmet 1 2 2 legs 2 3 3 arms 2 3 3 shield 2 3 3 about body 1 2 2 Note that the effect of opponent level explodes around level 32, thus the miss component of armor class will no longer happen. This is intended. In higher levels, your health and defences are your primary means of defense, while the damage reduction of armor class is retained. Against high armor class, a higher hitroll will prove to be of more usefulness than just damage alone. NOTE: Armor class does not affect the damage dealt or taken from spells.
