DISPEL MAGIC Syntax: cast 'dispel magic' <target> (short syntax: disp) Spell type: MENTAL Dispel magic is an offensive spell that is taught to all mages and clerics. It attempts to remove all magic affects affecting the opponent, whether those affects are beneficial or harmful to the carrier. To dispel successfully, the caster must first circumvent the carrier's mental save. Once that save has been successfully bypassed, all affects will then be checked. However, beating save alone is not enough. The next factor that matters is the difference in levels between the dispel magic spell level and the level of affect under attack. This means that, for instance, a purple potion's sanctuary is easier to dispel than sanctuary from a priest, but one can still protect themselves very well with save vs spell. Noteworthy exceptions: * Not all spells can be dispelled. * Spells that mobiles are affected by on spawn (ex. guild guardian sanctuary) may not be dispelled. * If a DUPLICATE is dispelled, the illusion will be immediately destroyed. * The dispel magic from an invokers thunder storm spell is AFFLICTIVE.
