Stalking the target is a multi-stage process that requires planning and patience. The stalk begins by finding the target's location. Once the would-be assassin has established that, they must watch and observe the target's habits and movements for a while. Finally, to complete the stalk, the shadow must lurk in the same room as the target for a while without being detected. Getting seen at any point while doing this will raise the awareness of the target, and that causes the assailant to lose everything they have learned. Noteably, the victim is easier to stalk if they are being followed. Assassination attempts are only effective against victims who are in excellent condition and are not alerted to the shadow's presence. A stalk is not required to try, but without one it will always fail. Nevertheless, an attempt instantly applies full marks of shadow.
