ABILITIES

'ABILITIES' 'SKILLS' 'SPELLS' Each class has a unique set of abilities. These come in three forms - skills, spells, and songs. To learn an ability, visit a guildmaster and use the PRACTICE command to spend practice sessions on it. There are also mobs located around Serin other than guildmasters who offer services to practice your abilities. If you need more practice sessions, gain a level, or consider playing a race with a better int/wis score. Bards must use the REHEARSE command to learn their songs. Skills: All classes have skills. Many of these need to be typed for use, while others are "automatic" (tried by themselves when needed). Skills always have a governing attribute - strength or dex, sometimes both. For example, parry is a strength based automatic skill, dirt kicking is dex based and must be typed. Spells: Clerics and mages have spells. All spells need to be cast with the CAST command or communed with the COMMUNE command, depending on your class. Spells might fail for two common reasons - lost concentration (proficiency/int based), or a successful saving throw by the target. See HELP MAGIC. Use the 'SPELLS SCHOOLS' command to see spells sorted by school. Use the PROFICIENCY command to check your progress in a skill. You can use SKILL <level>, SPELL <level>, or SONG <level> to display skills, spells or songs that are available to a person of that level. Without a level argument, these commands will list the list of skills/spells/songs available up to your current rank. SPELL SCHOOLS will show spells sorted by discipline. Abilities can be practiced up to 75% proficiency by using the PRACTICE or REHEARSE command, then can be improved further up to 80% prior to level 10 and thereafter up to 100% through use. The Juggernaut in Seringale sells training bonuses that may help by increasing your learning rate. You can also use the following syntax to list skills and spells for each class: CLASS <class name> <skills/spells/songs> For songs, also see COMPOSE.
