FENCING
'FENCING'
Syntax: automatic
Syntax: lightningcharge <target>
Syntax: feint
Elf paladins who take the oath of eradication add finesse to their
repertoire via picking up the skill of fencing. In order to fence, the
player must be fighting with a one-handed sword or spear: no shields, no
two-handed weapons, or anything held in the off-hand. Despite the lack of
apparent equipment, fencing is considered to be a defensive combat style
like counterbalance. While fencing, the player will use their intelligence
instead of their strength to add accuracy and ferocity to their attacks.
Other classes who learn fencing may fence with whips.
In addition to the above, a paladin that is fencing will also have the
ability to feint attacks (that is, to fake them out, and deliver one in
return). Also, they gain the ability to perform a special charge that
dashes directly to the target. This must be done from within a reachable
distance, otherwise the paladin would be tired and have to stop before they
reach their target. Be aware that the paladin's lightning charge will
strike everything in the room they land in, and may thus unintentionally hit
bystanders.
Note that fencing is unavailable to paladins wearing heavy armor. The
paladin makes up for this by simply receiving their maximum holy armor
benefit from light armor instead.
A paladin who is fencing may also manually prepare to feint upon a
successful parry of their opponent's attack with the feint command.
