'PERCEPTION'
The perception attribute defines a character's ability to see or hear an action
taking place (and react). Skilled thieves may rob people of their trousers without
them noticing they were even removed - requiring a dark room and nimble fingers.
The target's perception is important in key rogue abilities, and circumvention
presents a puzzle to be solved. No factor is the be-all and end-all, and luck
plays a key part, but some circumstances can cause incredible distraction for
your target. Here, some tips are offered to both help and hinder perception.
General tips
+ the
SNEAK ability aids greatly in evading detection under any circumstance
+ mastery of the skill being attempted
+ crowded rooms interfere with vision and sound
+ a bard performing the "four seasons" song is VERY distracting (vision AND sound)
+ level advantage, as always, plays a key role
+ vampires have the best perception
Vision
+ elven races are eagle-eyed, and more likely to notice anything visual
+ spice provide a similar visual bonus to being an elf (does not enhance elves)
+ the sixth sense spell of psionicists, or detect hidden, or keen sight
- being in a dark room (a light source can fix this)
- being blind
Hearing
+ affected by wolf totem (enhances hearing)
- being deaf
The Immortals will neither confirm or deny what else may affect perception
but use common sense and be careful what you ask on newbie chat because
it just might become true.
Useful notes - $E in prompt to get a sense of one's level of concealment,
and consider targets with detect hidden active to gauge how aware
they are.
