'UNDEAD'
Mortal undead are those who have willing traded their souls for power,
raised into an abomination. Undead mortals are not considered to be living
creatures, thus they are not protected by mortal laws or welcomed into
guildhalls and cabals. Neither are they considered to be natural creatures,
and this makes them foes of those who value life and nature, such as
healers, rangers and druids. In addition, the Knights of Valour, paladin
guildhalls and the most stoic elves take oaths to eradicate undead.
There are many forms of undead, but all of them are seeded by their primal
deity, Resatimm, Keeper of Souls, the god that first set its nefarious
plague upon Serin. Undeads are not mindless creatures, and in fact usually
observe a lawful hierarchy. The Lich King, Xanthak, is considered to be the
ruler of Serin's undead, and the medium by which mortals submit their soul
to the lord of undeath. His most powerful subjects are reborn as vampires,
to serve in the court of the Emperor Grazz't, demonlord of the material
planes that Resatimm dwells in, and aid in the spreading of the undead
plague. Those who do not turn out well after the turning are sold as
guards, cheap militia, servants such as butlers, slaves and so on.
Undead creatures take a great deal of additional damage from holy and
fire sources, but are resistant to cold temperatures and diseases.
