'COTERIE' In contrast to openly militant CABALS, coteries are organizations whose purposes are primarily social and scholarly. Joining a coterie gives one a greater sense of belonging and purpose, as well as providing friends with common interests to accompany one in an often dangerous world. Several coteries exist: 17.1 The CONSORTIUM, a gathering of Serin academics which includes: 17.1.1 <HERALD>, historians and storytellers of Serin 17.1.2 <MYSTIC>, researchers and guides of Serin 17.1.3 <SCHOLAR>, intellectuals with eclectic interests In addition, one may pay a little gold to further increase one's social status and affiliate with cabals or coteries: 17.2 PATRONS of the Taverns 17.3 NOBLES of Valour 17.4 COUNTS of Darkhaven The STRIFE coterie, while not affiliated with a particular city of Serin, is strongly linked to and answers to the Warlords cabal. Coteries are not required to be aggressive, unlike Serin's military cabals, and there are far fewer demands placed upon their members in terms of combat. Coteries may start fights, but must never declare war or invade cabals. Note that joining cabals with these titles is not allowed. Coteries form the core of Serin's social network, and those of any coterie may partake in the GOSSIP channel even away from the Traveller's Rest.
