'PROTECTIVE SHIELD' Syntax: cast 'protective shield' (short syntax: prsh) Spell type: PROTECTIVE A protective shield is a thin shell of magical energy, used to deflect attacks from projectiles. Bodies of a much greater size or mass will bounce harmlessly off a protective shield, as long as the attack is projectile in nature. Smaller attacks may penetrate weaker areas of the shell. Noteable attacks that are prevented by protective shields are blunt, lagging attacks like bash, bodyslam, sideswipe, overhead crush, and clobber, that would otherwise cripple the target. Arrows, skills that involve arrows, and javelins are also blocked by protective shields to a lesser extent. Note that this does not extend to other forms of blunt attacks such as attacks by a mace. Clerics and mages are given the opportunity to learn to use protective shields.
