RIPOSTE
RIPOSTE REFLEX 'REFLEX MODE'
Syntax: AUTOMATIC
Syntax: reflex
Syntax: reflex off
Riposte:
With their extensive training in combat skills, warriors have the ability to
evade their opponent's attack, look for an opening in their opponent's
defenses, and land a minor attack on their opponent. The skill riposte is
that ability.
If the warrior fails to make any extra attacks in a given round (i.e. their
second attack, third and fourth attack do not come out), then the first dodge
attempt that they succeed in the same round will riposte instead.
Reflex mode:
A warrior can enter a defensive reflex mode to greatly improve his chances of
succeeding with riposte. During reflex mode, not only is a warrior more likely
to successfully defend against normal attacks with riposte, but he will be
extremely prepared to capitalize on overextended enemy offhand attacks if he is
in the two-hand combat style. The warrior's reactions to flanking attacks is
also improved, granting him enhanced riposte chances against multiple enemies.
Finally, against many offensive attacks, such as disarm and lag skills, reflex
mode allows the warrior to riposte many of the attempts before they have a chance
to even succeed.
Since reflex mode is a defensive fighting method, a warrior will focus solely on
riposting during reflex mode, and thus will not deliver any second, third,
fourth, or offhand attacks. A warrior also cannot use any combat skills other
than simple kicks without disrupting reflex mode. However, unlike a berserker's
rage, a warrior can instantly snap out of reflex mode by performing an offensive
skill, such as bashing an enemy whose defenses have fallen. This makes reflex mode
useful for waiting to draw the enemy into making a mistake. Entering reflex mode
requires combat, and will cost the warrior some stamina.
Twohand combat style, overbeared weapon, and weapon type advantage all improve
the potency of riposte, especially during reflex mode.
