|

All paladins now receive shield slam at level 15, and this skill no longer
requires errantry to use. This is to level the playing field a little for
class which already has largest exp cost.
Lawful paladins are players that have signed up for not one, but two of the
most restricting roleplaying choices in the game (being lawful and being good),
with the expectations of the paladin guildhall on top. So, I also provisioned
this for lawful paladins.
- reckoning will increase the lawful paladin shield block chance by a slight
amount, that is further improved by additional reckoning charges
- using shield slam while under the affects of reckoning grants the lawful
paladin a "shield slam" effect. This temporarily gives the lawful paladin
the ability to strike twice with his primary attack. The chance of this
attack coming out is equal to the paladins shield block chance, plus any
reckoning bonuses.

You can prevent that extra attack with just using barrage or crane kick, and also, its only on one-handed damage from one non-wild weapon, so unlike mania, it won't be as capable of dealing a fuck-ton of damage. But it will look pretty nice. The incentive to go paladin justice for kite shield will be fairly obvious but the role is already occupied by someone who rolled it before update. The next best thing is really clearly a jotun paladin because the stats provide them with the best shield block (thus, most damage). Feel free to roll a half-elf for cake training if you want, its not going to be a giant difference, but its probably worth having a think about how this affects all your potential matchups (lawful paladin vs necro with a mace/shield for instance).
This is also a hint at future paladin specs, although I did want to actually give a boost to an identified race/class/align/ethos combo that is very obviously roleplay restricted - that gets the player into some very tough dilemmas.. i.e. doing the morally right thing vs the ethical thing. There really is no other character who hits that crossroads harder than a lawful paladin |
