Spears are one- or two-handed weapons with a long shaft and a sharpened
tip of metal or some other hardened material. In combat, the tips are
thrusted into an enemy for piercing damage. Many spears have a short enough
shaft to be wielded with a single hand, such as tridents used by fishermen
to spear fish. Lighter and better balanced spears can even be thrown as
javelins in ranged combat. Spears are often used in the wilderness for
hunting (and fighting) because of their effectiveness against an unarmored
target, which also makes them a popular weapon for gladiatorial combat.
Their greater reach over most other weapons also allows them to be used to
keep one's enemies at a distance defensively, but their limited and
predictable attacks make them weak offensive weapons. Longer spears, such
as sarissas and similarly long pikes, require both hands to wield.
* Improved chance of bypassing an opponent's dodge skill.
* Defense power is not decreased when used in offhand.
