'MONK'
It was the late Second Age, when the peaceful monks of Serin lived in an
age of pettiness and war. The high ranked masters took a lazy and often
spiteful approach - teaching it wrongly, betraying their heritage. Monks
of this age focused on the external, physical aspect of their martial arts,
and prized themselves only on their fighting. But one fateful day, an old
Grandmaster from afar by the name of Sen befell the monastery. Carrying a
banner that read simply "Specialist in correcting bad kung fu", she easily
assassinated every master after defeating their incompetent students. The
doors of the monastery were closed in shame, its belfry haunted by the
ghosts of their former masters. Eight years passed, and a few students
emerged from hiding. These students had changed their ways, focusing on
their meditation and learning to chii. They had became enlightened, and
achieved true mastery of martial arts. Thus the doors of the monastery were
finally re-opened, so that they may share their new teachings.
Monks learn their skills at a monastery instead of a guildhall. They must
go through rigorous mental and physical training, and discipline, to reach
the peak of their powers. Monks shun weapons for the purpose of hurting
others, instead concentrating upon a variety of fighting styles to adapt to
situations they are faced with. They must wear light armor to be able
to perform their techniques. Monks may choose a Path in the eternal
conflict, or remain unbiased, but they are not permitted to walk the path
of chaos. Note that this choice is not made during character creation, but
must be made by the 10th rank instead. Due to their vows of austerity, monks
also eschew flaunting their riches and therefore carry a maximum of 20,000
gold on their person at any time.
The monastery of monks lies within the Holy Grove, on the eastern road
between Seringale and Timaran. A smaller monastery can be found within
Seringale's park.
The following races can be a monk: human, halfling, storm giant, half-elf,
