Under the current “Help Knight”

"Entrance Requirements:
1) You must be between the 20th and 35th ranks (inclusive)"

I don’t see why it is reasonable for a character above these requirements to be inducted. Knights are the only cabal with this range requirement. If there is going to be another change to the help files saying that all cabal will only have a minimum level requirement only, fine. But it just seems, well, odd to me.

Squires may be picked from anyone rank 20 and over, but must pass rank 35 in addition to proving themselves worthy of Knighthood to complete their induction. The higher your rank, the easier the proving it is going to be for you, as both your roleplaying and playerkilling is more noticeable in high levels. However the higher your rank, the more difficult it will be to get squired, as you havent gone all the way to 50 with a bullseye and no cabal skills like future Knights may have to. This is an intricate induction process that requires several Knights to be in agreement - as the executor may only induct squires that have been appointed by archons, and lacks the ability to squire himself. It slows the process down, which is necessary due to the amount of applicants Knights has. It ensures that anyone who is inducted, is inducted because several (not just one) Knights thought it was in the best interests of their cabal. Upon a completed induction, there will be three Knights that are satisfied with this outcome, and an Immortal (in this case Meriando) who has cleared things for proceeding. That's four people in complete agreement. Obviously its very hard to get inducted illegally unless every single person lacks some responsibility (anybody except the applicant has a form of veto). And obviously anyone that has some relatively unusual circumstances has to convince a lot of people who can say "Lets not.". Also keep in mind that the first rank of a cabal is usually worse than being uncaballed - Justice is an exception - due to an item to defend without any terribly useful skills, and your late induction will no doubt slow down your promotions as well.

We could declare some rank restrictions, but I'd rather Knights have a fair deal compared with other cabals, and let cabals have an actual say in the politics of "who gets squired (inducted if other cabal) late" and "who gets inducted early". Only rank restrictions hard-coded are some bare minimum ones. This is to allow people to try their damned hardest to prove they're worth it, with their existing eligible character. Though characters that have set upon the path very early in life (i.e. applied at rank 20) will still be given preferential treatment to cabal inductions. No cabals have a max level requirement anymore, so that there's no need to niche level 35. If it doesnt work out, we can always go back to the old system of spending 8 hours ranking a new character to 35 and multikilling newbies to earn places in cabals from OOC friends.

I may add some code for a minimum squired duration however.

The Knight helpfile is still needng to be updated for the new squiring system, which has been introduced to the MUD about a week ago. Thank you for your patience.
