A question.

Do you learn more from mobs that are your rank or higher? I noticed an extreme difference in trying to master weapons on lowbies rather than ranking. Or am I playing myself into thinking that?

Let me clarify, I havnt seen much of a difference between high ranked mobs and lowbies with enhanced damage, second attack, yada yada yada. Just weapons and of course, defenses.

defenses have definitely been altered to work better on mobs or players at your rank or higher. low ranking mob will miss you completely, bypassing your defense check and therefore not raising %s.

Not sure about offensive skills or offensive spells, but i wouldn't be surprised if the same changes applied. (spamming on bumpkins for example don't work too well anymore i've heard)
