I've cast blindness like 7 times in a row without it working. I even made sure I had mana this time. It's not just blindness either, all my maledictive spells seem to have only a 10% success rate. What factors determine whether a maledictive spell works or not? |

MALEDICTIVE
Spells which use negative energy to cause harm to one's target are known as
maledictive spells. Some equipment can be used to bolster one's natural
defenses against such spells, causing the spell to fail. Also, those whose
bodies have higher constitution will find their life force to resist more
strongly the negative energy of these spells. Notable maledictive spells
include blasphemy and sleep |
So that means that certain pieces of armor and equipment can bolster your "saves" against spells of different types. Also, higher constitution = more resistance to spells.
If you check your SCORE, you'll notice this line:
Code: |
Save vs Afflictive: 0 Mental: 0 Maledictive: 0 |
The MORE NEGATIVE the number, the HIGHER your save against that category of spells... i.e. -20 is better than -10.
If someone's "Save vs. Maledictive" number is pretty high (it's very easy to get saves into the 50-70 category, and even higher), then they'll likely resist your spells. Also, some races have natural spell resistances that bolster their defense against spells of different types.
Other factors that involve spell success:
- Your rank vs. their rank
- Luck (I think to a small degree)
- Spell proficiency
- Etc. etc.
That should get you started, if nothing else. There's usually more than just a one-trick answer to a question regarding spells. |

Luck used to be a huge part for almost everything like skills, and spells going up and landing spells but now luck going either way or very good doesn't do shit unless your going up against a mob. |

Its hard to land spells on mobs for several reasons..
* level difference
* natural resistance (this goes up with mob levels, but it shouldnt be 90% at level 1 like you experienced)
* possible existence of saves on their items |

You can also gamble for savebreak equipment to help get your spells past your opponents saves. |

I think it might have been the level difference that was causing me so much pain. Pain from smashing my head on the monitor. I'll keep trying anyway. In theory, I should be able to successfully blind a mob just before he delivers the finishing blow. Thanks for the tips! |
