I don't think they should switch stuff up like that... all you'd have is a mage that could dirt kick, bash, and have fourth attack (AKA a warrior).

But, I like Quiet Wanderer's idea. Only thing - no, there wouldn't be any alignment issues. You could say that if you were in that particular area, that they could group. They would both be fighting for their lives together. Like, you know how in the latest X-men game that this freaky guy came and the good and evil mutants had to join together to kill him? Something like that.

I like the idea of both alignments fighting against a greater evil. "Yeah, I really hate you, but we need to join forces to save both of our lives, just for this little while. The second the Orb is destroyed, you're getting killed and full-looted." You've seen it in the movies and junk. Early DragonBall Z, when Goku/Piccolo banded together to kill Vegeta (Don't lie... you remember it, and you like it)?
