As you know if you play AR with any regularity the mud has been freezing every day for absolutely months. Actually its been doing it for several years, but its just gradually got more common.
I've spent 6 months tracking down the cause of this bug and this week I got a grip of it. So ..off I go fixing lots of memory leaks, suddenly.. hello.. AR has began crashing every hour and I can't find a fault anywhere.. it was horrible for a few days for sure.
Imagine a bucket that's so leaky, it just sinks the second it hits the water. That's an insight into how bad things were before. However, that was good in a way because you guys didnt get to see how bad things could REALLY get, because it wasnt going to stay up that long anyway.
We had almost 4 full days of uptime, with frequent crashes of course, but uptime nonetheless, not frozen unplayable. Then it finally screwed up royally, as I imagine things clogged up.
So I contacted the guy who runs this server (since I cant run the mud on his machine). He dropped by and ran some sophisticated tools on the mud. He's fixed a whole bunch of problems.. and we're waiting to see how it goes at this point.
So if you were wondering why the muds crashing a lot, this is the answer.. because I made it more "stable" in one regard, worse factors got aired that took longer to develop than the one's I fixed, thus you never saw them in the past. |

All that sounds like a *huge* pain in the ass to fix on Davs part. Kudos. |
