Quote:
After years of petty squabbles being settled on the battlefield, Torkalen
and the Heralds have created a court in order to settle arguments between
two parties in a civilized fashion.

This courtroom, The People's Courtroom, or Maelein's Courtroom,
is located inside the Tavern in Timaran. If you wish to be
a part of the inaugural case, The People vrs. Torkalen, come to
the Courtroom as soon as possible in order to get the best
seat furthest from the goats.

If you happen to have any cases that you would like heard, please
send a note to the Heralds explaining your complaint and the
individuals involved.

Maelein, Judicator of Theran Misdemeanors.

It's a good idea, but you all should plan it better. It was pretty lame this time around, but it's got potential to be better if you set it up right.

It wasn't a specific 'event'. The idea is players can think up fairly trival disputes to bring before a court and be judged by a herald. The room needs improvements like more tables/chairs etc but I think it has potential to be fun, even if it turns out to be an internal Herald thing.

I'll take part of the blame for it not being very good. Its hard to make a mob make an argument for you so yeah, I kinda cheated. Sorry Melenn.

I think the idea behind this is to create a different way of settling the stupid little things that usually end up in some lame one sided battle. If someone can summon you to court instead perhaps it will not only evoke some RP out of you might also find that theres more than just attacking anything that doesn't have "protection" in the realms...

Most of you here have OOC connections and all of you have in game connections. Try this new thing the Tork has created. If it blows, it blows and just like anything else in the mud will be taken out, or ignored.

I usually sit by and just laugh as people "flame" or just shit talk one another, but I recently came to realize something. The immortals give us what we can handle as far as in game perks and experiences. You wanna know why we don't have tattoos. It's not cause it hasn't been coded or implemented. If dav and those guys can create a whole new fighting system, they can easily do that in a relatively short time. In my opinion, notice MY OPINION, they believe and quite accurately that we, the player base, would not be able to handle it.

I've had to listen to roommates, friends, aim buddies, complain about how unfair the immortals were to them and cheating and blah blah. The bottom line is, it takes 2 seconds to screw up someone's opinion of you. It takes almost a year to change their mind. I know that you can't think that people don't take what they see here and on the invokation posts and make judgements on you.

I have wasted your time, simply to say this. The more the players put back into the game, the more return you will see from the immortals. The immortals have never ever punished anyone for roleplaying well and following the rules.

Give it a go, and I promise you will see the rewards of your work. Sorry if that was a waste of your time.

So how does it work? Is there a penalty for no-showing the court? Do you have to pay the other guy money if you don't win the dispute? Who judges. Etc.

Is there a way to make objects invisible but still be able to interact with them? To make the courtroom less cluttered? Put the chairs, etc in room descs, but make them invisible upon LOOK and still be able to interact with them (sit, stand, etc.)

Honestly I don't understand why one large object ("a large collection of observation benches" or whatever) can't be thrown in that has capacity for 20-30 people...

In fact, I might just throw that in today... all those ridiculous tables and whatnot look kinda dumb now.

If the Heralds (or whoever is working this) try getting some more high-profile players in there it's sure to draw a crowd. Having some of the more noteable characters on trial for some heinous things might be a good way to attract attention.

That would be freaking amazing. Just like, stage some stuff? I'd be all for that.

Oh and by the way, this court thing? Hilarious. (At least the case I attended was...)

Well, just think about how "cases" typically run in a fantasy/medieval setting:

- One party charges another party with an offense (chicken stealing, being a witch, etc.).
- A local authority (magistrate, town elders, etc.) hears the case.
- Some form of judgement is made.
- Some form of punishment (if applicable) is dished out.

What would be cool is to have people start throwing out accusations against others, possibly via notes to Herald or something. "Bob took my belly button lint collection, and I want it back!!" Then the "judge" (Torkalen in most/all cases, I assume) hears any testimony - witnesses, whatever - and rules on it. There's lots of RP potential here I think... but getting others to participate in a "case" that someone's falsified against them will require an open mind and a willingness to join in the fun on the other person's part.

...

Why do I see the witch accusation scene from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" coming to life via AR?

The Witch: I'm not a witch I'm not a witch!
Sir Bedevere: But you are dressed as one.
The Witch: *They* dressed me up like this!
Crowd: We didn't! We didn't...
The Witch: And this isn't my nose. It's a false one.
Sir Bedevere: [lifts up her false nose] Well?
Peasant 1: Well, we did do the nose.
Sir Bedevere: The nose?
Peasant 1: And the hat, but she is a witch!
Crowd: Yeah! Burn her! Burn her!
